When can we expect this to be added (as it is in S+ mod). For me SS Item Collector works very poorly (won't collect metal at all) so I am looking forward to this being added.

Checkout the roadmap for upcoming additions.
Though its important to start off with... This is not a clone of whatever S+ is doing.
So just because Orionsun added it to S+ does not mean it will be added to SS.

The purpose of the collector was to get things from dinos like eggs, feces, achatina paste. Which dino is dropping trails of metal behind them?
