Frequently Asked Questions
how to edit persona weapon traits
first create or equip a persona weapon. then click on the equipped persona weapon in bio tab - the weapon editor dialog will open. click on extend button '>>'. scroll down to persona weapon traits and edit them.

how to edit the bodysize gene properties
click on the xenotype icon in biotab, click on the plus button, select a bodysize gene, click on extended view button '>>'. change the properties there

i can't create new pawns, there is always an error - whats wrong?
if you can't create pawns its most likely because of the modification that you have made somewhen for apparel, items or weapons and maybe genes. try to open mod settings of this mod and delete the strings for saved apparel, items, weapons, genes then restart RimWorld.

hotkeys doesn't store
open mod settings and set the hotkeys in the character editor mod settings itself, instead of saving them in the keys config of rimworld.

how to import old pawn slots to new pc
open mod settings and click on export button - file with saved pawn slots will be stored on your desktop. click on import button to import pawn slot file from desktop into the editor.

there are no factions on the world creation or no raids happening - whats wrong?
you probably have some saved incompatible settings for weapon, apparel, items. to fix that go to main menu -> options -> mod settings -> character editor. open the settings of character editor, then scroll down to the end, where you can see saved weapons, apparel. click on the '=' button to reset the input strings or delete them manually. when they are empty, close the settings and restart RimWorld.

how to create by ideoligion prefered custom xenotypes?
create your xenotype with the xenotype editor and give it a custom name. you can open the xenotype editor by clicking on the xenotypename of pawns in the bio tab.
1. add the custom xenotype in the ideoligion
2. open gene view dialog in editor to view pawns genes (click on xenotype icon in bio tab)
3. load your custom xenotype (don't hold [CTRL], unless you only have hair and skin genes)
a) if your custom xenotype was for endogenes, load it into endogenes
b) if it was for xenogenes, click on toggle gene button for xenogenes and load it into xenogenes
4. mouse over the xenotype icon in the lower right to see the tooltip, if it is prefered
Hint: when you add more genes with + the xenotype may become unprefered. RimWorld checks certain genes with the 'pass on directly' flag.

how can i create, delete pawns?
to see add / remove pawn buttons - click on the star button left of the bio tab. that button will show you all extended functions for pawn creation. click it again to hide them.

where is the teleport button?
currently in the line of main buttons. at the right of the 'pawn position' button.

what's the quantum void is for?
use the actual editor version - there is no such ability anymore.

why my pawns appearing bloody after loading from slot?
seems to be a bug in the current version of the rimworld game. (for all implants for arms and legs)

my pawn is not loading, what to do?
refer to thread 'saved pawns not loading'. make sure you are using the latest version of character editor. best way to fix those problem is to load the savegame with that pawn and resave the pawn to the slot again.

whats the difference to prepare carefully?
too much difference to explain all. the biggest difference is - you can change any pawn, anytime you want. before and after crashlanding.

can i use it together with prepare carefully?
yes. note: you will lose all weapons added to pawns, when you switch configured pawns from character editor to prepare carefully.

is it compatible with facial stuff?
yes. facial stuff config can be called from the caracter editor. click on the two face symbol under the pawn image. (only available when facial stuff is active, only for non alien races)

is it compatible with psychology?
yes. you can add memories from psychology mod. psyche config from 'psychology unofficial' mod is in the edior ui. psyche config from the original psychology mod is visible in devmode.

can i edit pawns before crashlanding?
yes. you can edit them before and after crashlanding.

can i add pawns for the world list?
yes. in the crashlanding screen there is a slider to set the number of pawns from the list. blue marked pawns will be colonists, white marked will be in the world list.

can i add more pawns than the scenario sets?
yes. you can add as much pawns as your pc can handle.

why the pawn image is sometimes black?
it will get black, when your rimworld window is inactive for a while. to reduce performance issues, images are only loaded on change.
you can choose the mod option to force image redraw. but i do not recommend that, when you use it together with facial stuff.

is it possible to edit a pawns birthday?
yes. click in bio tab on the age in pawn description label. the line will change to input values and on the right side there will be a gift button. click on that to change birthday date.
if you use ui scaling, try to click more right of the age.

can i change pawns race?
yes. click in bio tab on race text in pawn description label. dropdown will appear. select new race/pawnkind and confirm.

can i add zombies, predators, aliens?
yes. if you have the according mods active, like zombieland or alien vs predator.
hint: added zombies from character editor will instantly enrage and attack you.
hint: you can buy and place an alien hive with the inventory+ button
hint: you can also add alien or insect hives to 'scattered' field under crashlanding, then your start map will contains them.

can i make maze like maps?
yes. if you add enough of rocks to the 'scattered' field under crashlanding, your start map will be maze like. you can experiment with other items as well.

can i add saved pawns to world humanoid pool?
after map loading, move the camera near to map end. load your pawns. select them in editor and switch to social tab. give them the 'lightning'-idea 'giving up and leaving' and they will leave the map and be added to to the world pool, as soon they leaved the map.

does this mod affect settlement creation or affect raids?
not per default. only if you change weapon tags or apparel tags. if you are not sure about having done some changes there, you can reset it back by:
1. open editor and switch to inventory tab
2. click on 'Inventory +'
3. click on '>>' - Button
4. click on 'Reset all to Default' - Button
5. repeat this for 'Apparel +' and 'Equipment +'
this will remove all saved changes done to items, weapons and apparel.
6. force mods to reload by adding or removing any mod to your modlist n main menu

my bio tab is blank, whats the problem?
if bio or any other tab in editor is fully blank, then one of the mods that you use are not compatible and cause errors while drawing the ui.

how to make siblings?
to make siblings choose the same mother for 2 different colonists. if you also choose the same father, then they will be brothers or sisters. rimworld makes indirect relations automatically. you can not just add a sibling directly - in order to have a sibling they need appropriate parents. this is how it works.

Is there a way to add pawns to the world list after the beginning of the game?

I have a game I've been playing and I wanted to add a character I could find sometime on the world map. I made a new character by starting a new game and editing a pawn and saving it in a slot. Then I loaded my old save I wanted to play on, opened the editor, clicked on a faction in the list to add pawns to. I seem to be able to generate random pawns to the world list, but I seem to only be able to load saved pawns onto my colony. If I click "load pawn" button, it seems to only work if I place the pawn on my current map, adding them to my colony.

Is there a way to add a saved pawn to the world list like how I can generate random new pawns for the world list, or is that not possible?

Thanks for the mod and any possible replies.

@Zachita
Yes. You can select a faction to which you want to add the pawns. If you let them spawn near to map edges, they will most likely go off the map and join the faction. Enemy factions will probably try to attack, before they leave.
You can also select 'Humanoid' instead of a faction, then add pawns. Those pawns will be factionless and will automatically leave the map and join to one of the world factions.
And you can also banish pawns or let them go away because of mental break. Those pawns will also join to one of the other factions.

Saved pawns, will be colonists, after they are loaded.
But you can change the faction of any pawn in the bio tab. Click on the faction symbol.

Thank you very much for this mod, however I am having trouble figuring out how to use it during my game.

After I edit a pawn, I must save it to a slot to apply it?

How do you know what slot a selected pawn is?
Zachita Oct 18, 2019 @ 11:35pm
Once you create a pawn as you like, you save it to a slot. When you are in a loaded map or starting a game, you can see all the slots and the slot you assigned it to will have the name of the pawn there.

I want to edit an existing pawn, but I don't know what slot they already occupy.
Zachita Oct 19, 2019 @ 8:29pm
I don't think you need to save a pawn to a slot to edit it. You just need to find the pawn in the list on the left, select it, make the edits and I think it will just happen. Don't quote me on that though.

Where does the saved characters files go? I want to put them into Prepare Carefully saved character present file. So I can load them up for a next run after having them for so long.
The Magic Stuff Jan 5, 2020 @ 8:56pm
same question as @memeserker but the opposite, is there a way to grab a saved character from Prepare Carefully over to Character Editor?

I know you can find saved characters from Prepare Carefully from Your PC > AppData > LocalLow > Ludeon Studios > RimWorld by Ludeon Studios. Then looking for PrepareCarefully. That is how I export and import my characters over updates in case.
The Magic Stuff Jan 5, 2020 @ 11:08pm
yeah, i did found that but i don't know where Character Editor store the saved character files, i did found the Pawn slot through the mod settings but it's all in a single string and not sure what's the proper input for them. maybe that's the only way to import/export characters?

@The Magic Stuff
pawns are saved in the ingame list, when you are on the preparation screen.
so if you edit your pawns with prepare carefully and then close it - prepare carefully reset all your changes back.
if you edit your pawns with character editor - all changes will stay in the ingame list. so you can if you want edit them after that with prepare carefully. (but note prepare carefully doesn't allow any startpawn to wear a weapon)

if you want to transfer your pawns from prepare carefully to character editor. start a game with those pawns, then open character editor and save them to slots.

then you can use your pawns in every savegame you want. plus you will keep your progress done with that pawn if you save them. thats something you can't do with prepare carefully.
VOID  [developer] Feb 25, 2020 @ 6:17pm
the only thing you have to care of, is when you use pawns of alien races or special items from other mods for your pawn. than of course you have those mods to be enabled, if you want to load that pawn from the slot.

@void
that's awesome, i just found that out recently lol (was in a long lasting colony, am guilty of using character editor far too many times, character editor too good to not use).
also, if you load a pawn from CE with multiple gears on, lets say marine's glove and boots from Vanilla expanded armory (i think?) and some other gears, PC won't load them all due to its limitations,
How to reset the points for relationships in the Social tab for each pawn
