They work perfectly fine against bullets and other projectiles.
I can't say anything about drop pods, because I am playing in a mountain base.
Even 1 small shield is able to block 1100 damage and regenerate 104 HP per second.
To compare, that is about the same as 10 Shield belts.
They only consume power during use and then only as much as 1 sun lamp, which I think is perfectly balanced.
About Centipedes, they fire a burst of 24x shots and because the shield protects the whole area you can expect all of them to hit. That is why they are so strong against shields.
Besides a small buff, the one thing I would change about them is how they handle mortar shell damage. I agree that them letting damage thru the shield even if they are still up should be considered a bug.
Also, I don't think they should absorb the full amount of the explosion damage for each tile. 1 shield generator should be able to absorb at least 1 full mortar hit, probably 2-3 would be a good number.
I like that compared to other shield mods they have clear weaknesses and still keep the defense aspect of the game interesting.
For everyone looking for a mod that adds shields that make your base defense trivial and impenetrable, I would recommend "Shield Generators by Frontier Developments".
