Shields useless in EVERY circumstance after 100+ days with them
How do i make the shield generators run constantly? otherwise they are completely useless, the drop pods drop, the shield turns on and breaks instantly not stopping any.

Raid comes in, raiders shoot, shield comes up, shield breaks because it has 0 charge, can i make it just run 24/7 instead? otherwise they are completely useless

you could use a mod like rimatomics to generate a massive power surplus

it has nothing to do with power use. i had 40,000 Wd worth of energy stored. i could run all my shields for a day just on battery power

I've tested the shields and they're pretty darn worthless. A single HE mortar shell can get through and damage the environment like it wasn't even there. They're exceptionally expensive yet useless. They do not stop anything really. Drop pods, Mortar Shells, yeah they suck. They need to be buffed. They can stop some projectiles fired by pawns but two Centipedes with heavy charge blasters and only one volley from them knocked out two large shield generators instantly.

I agree that they need a small buff and a few changes, but I don't think it is as bad as others are making it out to be.

They work perfectly fine against bullets and other projectiles.
I can't say anything about drop pods, because I am playing in a mountain base.

Even 1 small shield is able to block 1100 damage and regenerate 104 HP per second.
To compare, that is about the same as 10 Shield belts.

They only consume power during use and then only as much as 1 sun lamp, which I think is perfectly balanced.

About Centipedes, they fire a burst of 24x shots and because the shield protects the whole area you can expect all of them to hit. That is why they are so strong against shields.

Besides a small buff, the one thing I would change about them is how they handle mortar shell damage. I agree that them letting damage thru the shield even if they are still up should be considered a bug.
Also, I don't think they should absorb the full amount of the explosion damage for each tile. 1 shield generator should be able to absorb at least 1 full mortar hit, probably 2-3 would be a good number.

I like that compared to other shield mods they have clear weaknesses and still keep the defense aspect of the game interesting.

For everyone looking for a mod that adds shields that make your base defense trivial and impenetrable, I would recommend "Shield Generators by Frontier Developments".
