Regarding Griffons/Changelings : I understand that it could open up some possibilities and all that ; but, to be honest, it simply doesn't interest me. I did this mod because I thought it'd be fun to have ponies here and there (and then worked in different pony nations to make it interesting), but changelings and griffons (both species appearing in two episodes each at most) is kind of pushing the joke too far in my opinion.
A second reason is that I wish to keep this mod a small mod (ie "hey, let's put ponies in there !"). Griffons, changeling and the like would be better suited for, say, a total conversion. And even then, it's something I dislike a lot in the CK2 MLP total conversion mod design : the overimportance of things that aren't ponies. Most of the map is griffons, changelings, saddle arabians (zecorah), cervids (uh..), with each their own mechanics and such ; when really, they all hold a very minor part in the show, and for a pretty good reason, in my opinion. Plus, of course, the fact that it means you have to make up a lot of things (think fanfiction on a geostrategic scale) to keep the quality reasonable.
Now, of course, I have zero problem over somebody forking this mod and working in whatever they like. That's what the Git repository is for.
Regarding Discordians : On one hand, this is in the fanfiction realm I was talking about, which I personally dislike. On the other hand, it could be quite interesting to see what mechanics we could come up with. Say, for instance, having fun with the upcoming Doom mechanic.
All of those desert provinces in currant ponyland could become Zebrica while i'd have the changelings beyond pegasia and the griffin principalities or Griffonia (ive seen it called both) up the coast north of equestria if you still want the early years to be against pegasia then leave a few unclaimed provinces between them and equestria maybe even put them up with chinook and shoshone so they're busy taking those two out up in utah (that is utah right i don't know i don't live in America)
Also Saddle Arabians only show up in one episode I know of but they are very clearly not zebras they seem more like taller ponys with paler colours
For religions the zebra are clearly shown as shamanist and the griffins would probably be anti-religion if your going close to canon but really you can make them anything, Saddle arabians would be Celestian though for sure.
Discordian could be good and if you used the doom mechanics it would be truly 'interesting' to say the least and sticking with the chaotic theme you could have random events fire set to happen anytime after you reach a certain doom level eg: 'Discord takes a holiday' Doom goes down 20 and gain 2 stability or 'Turn the world on its head' lose 5 stability, 'Chocolate milk rain' lose 1 stability reduce increase stability cost by 30% Just random effects.
One idea for that could be another Harmony Religion, Like Celestia and Luna brought Harmony from Discords Chaos by reforiming Discordian you get an event that converts your entire empire to Harmony and sets it as your national religion and sinse its sort of a reward for surviving the discordian religions chaos Harmony could be an Uber-Religion thats Op verses the natives and would give you that extra boost that would allow you to kick the europeans back to europe and then take the fight to them.
It's true the placement of Ponyland doesn't make much sense, ideally they'd be in some farming-friendly environment. But obviously, I couldn't set the pony nations very far apart from each other : the whole point of them was to make early game more interesting. Same thing for the Pegasus colonies, they're here to allow a human player to also play as Pegasia fairly easily.
The thing with Discordian, now that I think of it, is that it's inherently a pretty random thing ; and if there's a thing EU players dislike, it's apparently randomness. Maybe make sure bad events are often followed by good events, or simply make every bad modifier come with an equally good modifier... I'm not sure. Use of the Doom mechanic could aslo sidestep the issue, but I'm not sure it'd be easy to justify.
I have the DLC's, so once I can figure out the nuances of modding the Designer, I'll add them to the Equestrian Mod.
First I must ask if it is intentional for equestria to be Selenite but also still have Celestial enlightenment government, if so im fine with it, if not just bringing it to your attention
Secondly I want to talk about adding factions to the lunar republic like with venice, the hansa and ming.
The First Faction would be 'Nightmare Cultists' They are the military faction whose only desire is to spread the glory of the moon goddess across the world. When in power Countries gain +10% discipline, +2% missionary strength and -33% coring costs however they also gain +5 national unrest.
My justification for this is that the majority of ponies do not support these unharmonious ways and that explains the revolt risk. If you think +5 is too much may I bring religious tolerance to your attention. At base level this makes all provinces you religion -3 unrest and another -1 if you have good repulican tradition so basically your only getting +1 unrest in total in homeland provinces, meanwhile in your newly aquired territory the unrest will really hammer itself home your goiing to need the discipline coring costs and missionary strength just to hold onto the provinces you've just taken as intolerance overextension and nationalism reck havoc on your unrest.
The Second Faction is 'The children of the night' This faction gets +15 global settler increase -2 national unrest and +20% tax efficiency. This is the faction that your supposed to just sit on when you've not got much going on and will be the admin faction.
Finally the last faction is 'Lunar Harmonists' These the diplo faction and, depending on your view, the riskiest these gain +1 admin, diplo and military point extra per month, in return though you shall recieve -33% land force limit as well as -10% discipline this is another double edged sword from the increase in points however if you get into a war your going to take huge losses against nations even multiple techs below you.
Apologise for the length of this but it was something I came up with and i wanted to share, i understand if it is not something that gets added any time in the near future.
Also what do you mean about Equestria being Selenite but having Celestial enlightenment as its governement form ? It may be possible if you convert willingly (outside the event chain), I suppose.
I consider the idea of the discordians as unrealistic and fake since in equestria and the show discord a a national enemy and a evil former ruler.Even after his transformation into good he is still mostly disliked by the population, but a few events or decisions discord related would be fantastic.
Please take this into consideration for future mod updates.
Thanks for the FANTASTIC mod m00nsplit. ps: its one of my top 3 mods EVER!
Would you be comfortable representing, say, the flood from Halo or the Zerg from Starcraft as a nation levying taxes, establishing trade routes and building boats ? Nor would I. The ways they work are so different from ours they are, in my opinion, outside of what the game can do.
Add to that all the other problems : we only see in the show an elite force attacking only the palace and taking even Celestia (who lived quite a long life) by surprise. IE, they are not a huge, regularly invading force. More like, to me, some sort of evil so ancient and distant even Celestia had never encountered them.
Even worse problems with Discord : there is no way to systematise chaos, by definition. It's not hard, it's impossible by essence. I do believe I have Discordian rebels somewhere though. But nothing more.
