"Need Material"

When I go to trade or create anything, it says I lack the materials needed, even thought they are in my storage and area allowed. Any thoughts or suggestions as to why this is?

No, they're just sitting in the storage containers, even when a trader comes by it won't show my silver which is in a crate.
