Report a translation problem
You can use the dev tools to check for any lingering hediffs (they are hidden) and remove them, then re-add the trait. If you turn on God mode, there is an option in the magic tab to restore the level of your paladin.
I went into the dev tools and did as you suggested but had no luck.
Update: Started a new game and the arcane mage knew three spells starting. (nice!) The magic hotkeys were still 1/4 the size, but when I clicked on something else and back to the pawn, I could see one of the spells just off to the side of pawn information, behind the mana bar.
