2 if you look most of the mage buffs are targeted aoe buffs not self buffs and there for should be used on your fighter classes
3 as a said before summoning is for moveing enemies or creatures aways from defenses or cover. on top of that the teleport spell is a mobile drop pod launcher and the blink spell is useful for escaping melee and grinding exp. the last spell certainly is only useful if you git gud but my answer for that is to git gud
4 warlocks are a bit trick since you have to actually think about what your doing. you use the bond to increase the mood of your finicky pawns so they break less or bond the pawns that would benifit from being able to move across the map in an instant like your fighters or tamers
5 summoners turrets and traps get set up in an instant again meaning you can use them on the fly rather than wait foryou builders to build them, they are meant as a temporary measure. elementals are a bit weak but can prevent enemies from shooting for long enough that your shooters can get in to place and mow them down
6 beguli animal is again useful for when youre the one doing the raiding as itll tie their gunners up in melee while your guys get in to place and aim at them
6.2 bblade dancers sesimic hatever is a ranged attack for a class that doesnt work when you have a ranged weapon as a primary, the blade dancer will try to create space when using it but already being tied up in melee will prevent that its good for chasing or hiting things that will explode
7 for jade thats your problem there are plenty of ways to get jade though most revolve on using other mods like set up camp or long range mineral scanner
their i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ humoured you because you cant seem to have more than two neurons in your brain think about how youre using this ♥♥♥♥
tldr git gud bro
2. Mage buffs actually are pretty canon, but you raise a point about misplaced buffs. Perhaps Ray of Hope on a more support class makes more sense.
3. The arcane mage is one of the most useful class on making the world smaller. I've used teleport to visit other factions halfway across the world and trade with them (like the *MAGIC* faction) and gateway to recall them instantly after they do their trading (though I combined this with the camping mod). I play on vanilla single colony too and it's been immensely useful. Blink is good to reposition yourself in fights, and magic missile is magic missile.
4. You have a clear vision of what you want in this mod and you aren't exploring the capabilities of each class. Be more open. The bond helps people esp when they're about to break, or a bonded animal dies, or a high psychic drone, and also improves your stats. Your W/S caught out or your bonded host caught/out? Use the teleport/summon. Your reliance on draft/right click ignores the utility offered by the class and also the speed needed to quash threats. On the succubus, scorn could definitely be improved (like having the succubus remain in demon form for a little bit post landing so she isn't immediately vulnerable) but calling their skills garbage is a little much.
6. I haven't had a druid in my colony so I can't comment on that specifically, but you seem to love calling for the removal of something rather than suggesting improvements. My bladedancer is absolutely OP. Slaughters people after they've been weakened/kills enemy snipers, or is easily able to hop around (has bionics) and chase down enemies.
7. Other than heavy jade maps, the magic factions usually sell jade. An arcane mage would benefit in getting immediate trade. I get magicite quite easily with my geomancer and the sprite spell, and the amount of magicite in mining is quite a lot.
8. Overall, before you classify something as useless or "garbage", I'd advise you to play around with all facets of the class. Many of the criticisms you charged were not at all within the purpose of the classes or were even justified as a tried and tested weakness of the actual mechanics.
I'll be honest, I find some of your evaluations to be pretty comical. Like av_hh and firathmagi have pointed out, spells have an intended use, they aren't all straightforward, and learning how to be creative with a spell pays off.
So lets talk about creativity and overcoming spell limitations. Fire mage firebolt - this spell ALWAYS hits the square you aim at. If a target is moving, and they move off the square you shot at, ya it WILL miss. So? Dont use it on moving enemies. It has a range of 40 (better than most vanilla rifles) and a 4 second recast with 1s charge (5s shot cyle) at a very reasonable 15% mana cost. At level 0 it does 16 damage, at level 6 power (fully upgraded damge) it does 47 heat damage plus a chance to light the target on fire for extra CC and damage. (base damage and bonus damage are split, so it's actually 2 hits, one for 16, one for 31) With that you're at least destroying a body part if not insta-killing a pawn. Every 5s. With 100% hit rate on stationary targets. That's pretty powerful friend.
You want some creativity? Druid poison is unresitable, applies a debuff, and always hits a "blood filtration" organ. The more a target moves, the more damage the poison does. Ever try poisoning a target an then summoning it with an arcanist across a large distance? Or heck, just kite a thrumbo.
Succubus and Warlock bonds apply a mood debuff and capacity debuff on the bonded pawn for a capacity buff on the caster. Select the right pawn to bond.. ie your depressive pawns or mental vegetables and it's a double win. You can move your bonded pawn, or move to your bonded pawn instantly, across the world...
Spells are FREE, even if you decide you don't like a spell, you don't have to use it... are you really in a worse off position than if you didn't have a mage to use an ability atl all?
One thing you mentioned I will agree with - bladedancer graphics need some improvements to help show what they are doing. Right now they're small or disappear quickly which isnt providing the graphical feedback on what they do. I'll look at improving that soon.
Seismic slash does work though, it hits everything in a line to the target cell you select. You should be selecting a cell behind a line of enemies (like in a choke point) and it will hit everything along that line. When you have a good melee weapon, it will do a very significant amount of damage. It's impkortant to note that a bladedancer skill damage is half pawn fighting capaciies and half weapon damage. The better your pawn (brawler, bionics, etc) and the better weaons will dramatically improve the performance of a bladedancer.
I do agree, in the mind of someone a fire mage could be a mage specialized in buffs, another person could think a succubus is more of a mage who improves mood, and another person would prefer an arcane mage who is specialized in... moving goods to other factions and trading. Sure, it is all subjective and opinions may be very different :D
So I will give mine.
Fire mages should burn people alive instead of giving aoe buffs.
Arcane mages should use arcane powers to fight instead of acting like special kind of "muffalos".
There are many ways to raise the mood of a pawn and having succubus waste a spell slot into making a pawn happy... is it useful? YES! Is it a stupid waste? Totally!
I do love the poison spell, that doesnt change the fact that wasting a spell slot into making a deer go manhunter is really awful.
Look, I am sorry if my way of expressing my frustrations is a bit... agressive? But I assure you I want only the best for your mod.
Theres a good reason games with wizards dont have spells like these. Dragon age, elder scrolls, neverwinter, baldurs gate, u wont see a "place turret" spell or, "increase mood" spell.
Summoners summon, fire mages cast fire spells, arcane mages cast arcane spells, warloks use demons. This is not my opinion, this is how games with wizards play.
Dont listen to fanboy trolls like that guy up there. If someone says "my bow does zero damage" people like him will say something like: "u can use the bow to distract them, git gd idiot bla bla"
Its not constructive for your mod.
I wouldnt be wasting my time wrigint such long posts on something I dont even spent money to use. There are other alternatives, countless mods. Im doing this because u did a great thing with some classes.
Many spells are really cool, many classes.
Im just saying if you refine the current spells this mod could be much greater.
I am sorry if I sounded rude.
Im not good with using forum tags so I will try to reply to each point in a single post.
Fire Mage
Games with spells like, there isnt a single one that work like that. I dont think of a single game I played where a firebolt would hit the place I aimed instead of the enemy. This happens with aoe spells because they are very powerful and they DO target the ground. Bolts, in every game, target an npc and have a 100% hit chance. They might be resisted, absorbed, etc but they always hit, ALWAYS!
If you want to do something different... well cool. If you want my opinion, theres a good reason games with wizards dont do that. It is bad... wasting a spell and entering cd because of that kind of mechanic... can be game breaking!
Creativity is cool, creativity is great, but advocate for the use of creativity when dealing with limitations and bad mechanics... that is always bad...
If something is good, it doesnt need creativity to perform well. Its like "your knfe doesnt cut? try mashing with the other tip"... do you want your classes to be like that?!?
Bladedancers and gladiators have every chance of surviving a 1 x 1 encounter. Dont you think a solo mage should be able to do the same?
They would be a lot more fun... if I am am arcane mage I want to be powerful, I want to kill mobs, whats a level 50 arcane mage have to be proud about?" Oh I can teleport to the other side of the world with 50 kg!!!!" Is that it?!?!
I can give you constructive criticism too. Didnt expect u to want to hear my sugestions hah...
Well, I think if you inspire urself on the currently existent spells on d&d and other classic games you cant go wrong really.
Remove the mage buffs and give them elemental armor. Not only just makes more sense but gives them surviality. The armor could debuff enemies with slow (ice) damage over time (fire) raw damage (arcane, lightening).
Make mage bolts track enemies... and apply slows, dots or make them amplify elemental damage, producing really nice combos.
Actually, make those aoe spells amplify the element damage... that would be really cool. First u apply the debuff that amplify the damage, then u destroy him with a bolt or aoe attack!
Instead of making an animal go man hunter, make the druid call a bunch of animal spirits, make strong animals spawn, or neaby animals join his side. Jecrell has done something like that... with bats I think.
The sucubus... instead of giving a mood boost to a single paw, it should cause all pawns in a certain range to earn a boost, and debuff enemies attack speed, or pain resistance... Id rather have her invoke demon fire, a demon lord, make enemy pawns join her side. Make enemy pawns flee...
Summoners, like i said, between summoning a turret and an undead knight, a mine or an angel... Is it hard to see what is bad and what people would MUCH prefer? Id build 100 traps if I could summon a dragon that way...
If you MUST give a huge cast time to spells, please at least make them track enemies... please!!! Having spells wasted and going out of mana because u missed... it is not funny!
The jade thing. Sure, one can go to the mage city (IF he started close to one) and buy 100 jade after traveling for 10 days, suuuure. Even so, he would craft less than 10 gems...
Instead of doing this... why not have an alchemist class or alchemist bench? Turning limestone into jade would be great! A little game breaking maybe... but much more fun than traveling to some place and HOPING theres jade for sale.
If you think there must be utility in this game, give each class a single utility spell if you must, but dont make a mage be based around utility spells only. The arcane mage is laughable, arcane muffalo more like!
The bard for example... well... he has an aoe sleep! He decreases prices by a huge margins, he is a perfect utility support class! If he could entertain guests from hospitality too, it would be amazing! He is not a mufalo at all! Ha ha ha.
If you picked blink, why not pick polymorth instead? Blink is sooooo useles, and it even has a small range. Why not make the arcane mage summon a mana pool? Now that would be great utility.
Having him teleport with 35 kg of meat? Thats a disgrace :S
if you want to play op magic go make a different game rather than play rimworld
About "useless" bolts. Bolts is pretty good at eraly stages of game, not all starting with sniper rifle. Also, maybe i am wrong (since i not fan of mages at all and prefer combatants), but isn't mages skills ignoring armor and awesome against mechanoids?
first of all, they are not supposed to be "PRESS KEY TO WIN". Most of them is good or awesome for some situations.
- "Teleport instead of walking to the latrine? Summoning a meal instead of walking and grabbing it? An useless ultimate spell for players with a single colony?"
lol, all of them is extremely useful. Teleport - is good for kiting to walk over slow/impassible terrain. Extra meals - is good for caravan which is out of food. Ultimate is useful for harvesting resources from enemy bases/quests.
- "A 35 mood boost in exchange for some insignificant... mana? Im not even sure it returns anything. Teleport to pawn? Summon pawn?" There lot of situations to use it - especially on some outraged pawn during battle to save his life.
- "Cool minions! The elementals... sadly are wimps... why would an elemental colapse due to pain???? Please make them decent.... Also... turrets and traps??? There are turrets nd traps in this game and guess what? They dont cost mana and dont have a mana upkeep neither..."
Elementals is extremely useful at start and on siege of enemy colony. Their main task is to get all fire on them, including enemy mages skills which is can be very dangerous.
Turrets is awesome to spawn on defense/offense. They cost MANA instead RESOURCES. Also good thing to spawn near/inside raid's blob, so they will kill each other with aoe. Also it's have good range to shoot retreating enemy pawns. Awesome on sieges of enemy/caravan attacks.
- "A spell that turns an animall manhunter... is there anyhing more stupid?"
And you are wrong here. It's also unraging them. Useful on tough animals, especially from mods.
This is what lies in the realm of subjectivity, which I hate prety much.
When someone try to discuss things objectively, another person with "reasons" can do this stuff . Politicians do this a lot, liberals...
Well what I am trying to say is that you can find great ways to use useless junk, think of MacGyver lol!
I am trying to offer objective and YET positive criticism. All of these crazy spells can find perfection in extremely situational uses. If you create a spell to make food spoil faster, I am 100% sure someone will come here and say "that spell is perfect for this or that, like freeing stockpile room"...
Finding use for junk doesnt mean junk is not junk... it IS junk!
A spell to improve the mood of a pawn when dozens of items do that. A spell to teleport a pan when it can walk, a spell to spawn a turrent that will have a mana UPKEEP instead of building one with 40 wood... these are stupid design choices.
Situationally speaking yeah they can find uses, MacGyver remember?
But when you think of all the other stuff that could replace that spell slot, the thought of "omg what a stupid spell!" is unavoidable.
I love the summoner minions, I want to play a summoner because I really like them. But when I remember they have 2 crapy spells... I just dont make one.
I love the succubus, the lore... but when I remember they have a spell that debuff speed, a spell that debuff conscience, a spell that improve mood, another for teleporting... wtf can a sucubus do in combat? Use firebols... I would love to play one, but I just cant deal with the crappy spells.
The succubus would have to rely on a club or die, probably. Thats the case with most classes in this mod. They cant rely SOLELY on magic to defend themselves and it happens because of the useless spells.
I am just asking to review the design and insteead of bring so much "utilyty", debuffs, make mages capable of actually killing things with magic.
I like to start my games with a single pawn... That means I cant pick any of the magic classes because instead of killing raiders they teleport, make deers turn manhunter, summon rays of hope, lol turrets...
I dare anyone to start with a mage and fight a raider with magic alone! That doesnt happen (maybe if you start with a one use tier 3 spell like a fire mage with fireball, or a psionic with that psionic circles run..). The arcane mage would be soooo raped it wouldnt be even funny.
The priest??? Start with a solo priest and pray you can make traps in time! Why not give smite to priests for example? Why not make the succubus charm a crazy pawn into catarsis? Make it sleep? Doesnt sound a lot more logical and useful???
I guess magicians will stay the way they are with the useless spell no matter what anyways.
Making an exception for the necromancer. Besides having spells that 2 the same thing, he is really cool. The fighters too, I can start with any of those and have fun because all of their skills are actually useful, extremely USEFUL.
So R.I.P mages I guess.
they are able already. at least 3 of them able to wipe out whole raid by one skill.
"I dare anyone to start with a mage and fight a raider with magic alone! "
oh i see where you are so wrong now
it's not rpg with warrior/mage/thief moto in mind. It's addition to exited weapons/armor. You don't have to use magic on every single hit, it's for special situations or when you are prepared to use it. Using canon against mouse or bird is dumb. Using it against armored vehicle is not. I hope you got idea. Rimworld is not MOBA to spam skills. Skills is about wise using in proper time since restoration time is pretty big.
FIre, Ice and Lighting mages have cool "ultimate" skills which is huge aoe with some kind of crowd controls. Using them on raiders in blob able to wipe out lot of them like 50-100 just by pressing skill button once. And after it you asking to buff them even more?
But no mage starts with an ultimate. Ultimate spells are end game and rely on luck and rng: Finding a tome and having the money to purchase it.
Now think of this: You start with a single ice mage and theres a raider coming.
1- Throw a bolt: unless you can make sure you build some sort of corridor forcing the raider to walk through it... the chances of missing are way above 50% and next? You are just a bad melee taking a beating or probably dying.
2- Cast the aoe slow/damage spel: lets say u didnt miss. Raider is down by what? Being optiistic probably 50% health? The mage will have to get the club and fight like everybody else.
3- What else ? Make rain? Buff? Irrelevant.
Fire has 3 ofensivve spells so yeah he probably can kill the thing without getting his clothes stained, a fair chance allright.
Lightening would be just like ice, cant down a single raider or even a bunny by magic alone unless he has pathfinding on his side.
Succubus warlok:
1- debuff speed? Raider still walks. Debuff conscience or modd? Raider moves further. Cast a shadow bolt... IF you hit the raider isnt dead and will kill you anyway.
Arcane mage:
Arcane mage finds a raider... blinks to escape! Hes mana is gone. Raider cuts his head off. Dead Arcane mage.
Arcane Mage second choice: Teleport to another faction and wait till raider burn his settlement down and give up. Go back to town and start from zero!
Summoner - This one can survive if he has the minion spell. If he doesnt... place a turret or trap and hide in his house! Is that any fun?
Priest - priest is under attack? Make a caravan and pray he can move to another place!
Bard - cast sleep... and grab a mace.
Now think of blade dancer, death knight, gladiator, you can just draft the pawn and kill the raider and have lots of fun!
Can you see the imbalance here?
At least make bolts mana free like normal bows... and a smaller cd. That alone would be really nice. Or give mages wands!
Actually the only person being toxic and abusive is you. I believe people can change and thats the reason you are not in my block list. Anyway I wont reply to your messages anymore, I have better things to do like taking the garbage outside lol.
so really the only w.ay to deal with a special snowflake like you is to call you an idiot and the call it a day.
more importantly this tread is uselesly blocking other more important threads from apearing on the main page
