Kuei-jin
Hi, I just had an idea of adding Kuei-jin into the game, as a side mod to this mod, I know enough of programming for this, but there some problems with the idea itself, like the fact that they feed on chi, rather then blood, so if anyone wants to help, I'll be grateful

i'm still new to programming, but why don't you make a mod for chi... something like different fighting moves that cost chi, or a move that allows a guaranteed dodge. if they run out, they will drop unconscious for a while... now that we have that... basically implement a new vampire but change what it needs & drains to that chi bar

That sounds like an interesting idea, although I know naught of programming, I'll keep an eye out for it; were you to release it eventually ;b

(While I do not know how far in development or what manners of features you would have in mind regarding this mod; I hope it wouldn't be presumptuous of me to throw a few ideas in as well. (Wall of text incoming. Also, some ideas somehow work, maybe only if, bridged with Jecrell's mods; so yeah...))

While I can't be of those to work on this project, seeing as there would be Kuei-Jins, how about also implementing a Yulan-Jin variety?

Indeed, while it is said that Yulan-Jin own no notable power, their unshackled spirits could mean for them to act as forms of pathfinders or "scanners" (by which I mean that they could act as forms of "guides safely leading others", having, instead, abilities that could help pawns survive injuries or escape being injured at all; boosting their toughness or evading capabilities. (By scanners I meant powers similar to "Reveal Illusions", used by the Auspex skills set.)

To become a Yulan-jin, a Kuei-jin would become insane from the torments of what's best described as hell; to attune this idea and practice to RimWorld, I consider that it could be fitting for it to also function with some of the Rim of Madness mods, employing madness to render maddened Kuei-jins into Yulan-jins, having them "leave their bodies" and enter the same mechanics that I'll describe just below.

(Of course, If it were a feature, it would only take effect once said RoM mods are also in function; unless the madness mechanic also comes with it, which could be a plus.
(Otherwise, to get a Yulan-jin you'd have to hope one arrives and capture him or start with them as colonials or through Prepare Carefully or debug.))

As well, their spirit being unbound, and in fact, rather expulsed (or repulsed, for that matter) from their original bodies, instead of entering a "beast" mode, their actual body would die and their stats and the such would overwrite those of another, random deceased pawn's corpse; should their now previous body suffer too fatal feats or run out of Chi (Also diminishing their stats, seeing as they'd forget some of their past selves in the process of switching to a new host. (If no cadaver is available (likely bodies, still in flesh and not bare-bones as well as not too damaged or decayed; in a grave, sarcophaguses or coffin), I assume the Yulan-jin would ultimately die; same would happen if they'd die in the sun.

(These body changing properties aren't described regarding the Kuei-jin, so I assume that they simply die or, for a large amount of Chi, come back to life, If their body isn't a mess, already, by that time.)

Speaking of death, since Kuei and Yulan-jins are more like spirits hosted by their bodies rather than actual western, blood sucking vampires, they would be more resilient to sun, in the sense that they'd take longer for it to have a deathly effect upon them; instead of burning, they'd also rot at an aggravated speed and, as above, die and remain dead.

That could also imply that, if strong of spirit, maybe they could, costing all their Chi, switch to a specific body, living or dead, overwriting their stats (without changing their values; (though, if performed on an enemy pawn, it can't be argued that the new host body is "consenting" to being overtaken; thus, it would greatly negatively affect the Yin and Yang equilibrium of the Yulan-jin pawn of which I'll put some more details on, just below) and/or the traits.)

(I guess there should be some form of tree similar to Jecrell's own mod's generations tree; instead being in spiritual strength or echelons (or something...))

Maybe, like in Jecrell's SW - The Force mod, there could be a form of equilibrium, of stability regarding the Yin and Yang. For instance, a property that could be added to food items could be a certain amount of chi, which when consumed by either Kuei and Yulan-jins would give them a small amount of Chi, Yang Chi; I presume, since the means to aquire said Chi would imply (some form of "pure") consumption, inclining the equilibrium towards the "Yang side" rather than devouring of life, which would be tainted and affect the stability towards the "Yin side"; act that could be depicted as eating human flesh or consuming the Chi of a victim until the target's death.

(Precisely, regarding their sustenance, I thought that having a "Yin based diet" would be anything such as consuming flesh from corpses, whichever creature (I presume, since the intent would be "beastly" and uncivilized at that point (even if they'd require their meal and were starving, I don't think it would be easily if at all moddable to make it so that they gain Yin or not depending on the situation, so yeah...), also blood and maybe even raw meat ; where a "Yang based diet" would be veggies, meals or raw meat)

Being more Yin than Yang could mean a boost to the stats of the Kuei or Yulan-jin's power but a great debuff to their social abilities, (seeing as they'd be more perverse looking, rather undead than living in appearance; thus seeming like horrors) whereas being more Yang than Yin would provide a boost to social capabilities, although, rendering the Kuei or Yulan-jin less efficient in a fight. A balanced diet would incur no bonus nor penalty to the pawn.

Also, seeing that they consume the Chi in the blood rather than the blood itself, they could have some form of "syphoning" ability, similar to that of Hunger, from the Pijavica who drain the blood from the grounds soiled by the liquid; or also to the Tremere, who use their own blood to fetch that from another (without physical harm or blood extraction, as for the Chi based feeding; seeing as it is more spiritual than not.) Although, the effects could be, obviously, adding Chi to the one syphoning, but also diminishing the target of the "spell' "s consciousness, (or) manipulation, (or) stats in general.

I also thought of certain traits bestowing certain positive and negative effects that could last for a long while after absorption of their owner's Chi and/or until another dose of Chi of which the effects would overwrite the ones active at the time.

By that I mean that, for instance, the Cannibal or Beautiful traits could give negative effects to the one that would consume the trait's owner's Chi since cannibalism would revolve around the Yin (for obvious reasons, namely the perversion of the consumption of dead, human flesh tainting the cannibal.) or beautifulness (since, I guess, it could hint immodesty and self-importance, which are forms of social perversion); associated with negativity; unlike traits like "Body Purist" (which could imply purity of body, obviously, and mind, meaning that their Chi would be more abundant, have a better flow and come in clearer forms; such as Yang.)

(Some ideas have been tweaked to fit within the possibilities of RimWorld, so things aren't always accurate, for instance, Kuei and Yulan-jins are said to have been cursed to "living" on Chi, and Chi can only be obtained through blood for them; but, seeing as Chi is the fiber of life, I thought it would be nice to also gain some from food as well; it could be roleplayed as some form of repentance. (Some as in little, where, inversely, consuming flesh grants grand amounts of the energy.))

(Obviously took a while to write, so maybe there're mistakes in there.)

Fearing to be impertinent, I still meddled and shared your discussion in another; maybe since it's almost been two years since you posted this idea, the work is still in progress, so... While I don't know for you or Jecrell, the idea of a collaboration or something came to mind ;b

At any rate, I hope to see such a mod in the future.
