A reclusive, forest dwelling species, the Viera are a spiritual humanoid race with a deep connection to the natural world. Their lifespan is known to be three times that of Humes, with physical aging slowing down upon reaching adulthood. Viera possess natural leporine physical features, and are taller and longer limbed than the average Hume. They possess exceptional senses, especially in hearing. This makes them ideal at protecting their beloved tree canopies from the outside world. Guided by a life force entity they only refer to as “The Wood,” the Viera are predominantly a matriarchal society, following the “Green Word” of the Wood Herself. The Viera can commune with the Wood around them and now weave a tale with Her guidance across the stars.

This diminutive race is easily recognized by their small stature, distinctive pom-poms atop their heads and the small, bat-like wings on their backs. Moogles are highly skilled machinists, renowned for their craftsmanship and ingenuity. In addition to their expertise in mechanical devices, they possess an innate understanding of magicite technology, deftly harnessing its power to enhance machinery and create innovative tools. Their mastery over this rare and potent resource has made them invaluable engineers and artificers, blending magic and mechanics in ways few others can match. Moogles also boast a variety of unique professions, many tailored to their exceptional talents.

Covered from head to toe in resilient scales, the Bangaa are a hardy reptilian race known for their long, angular faces and powerful limbs. They possess remarkable longevity, often living twice as long as the average Hume. Despite their physical differences, their intelligence and social customs are comparable to those of Humes. With their formidable strength, fierce tempers, and deep-rooted love of battle, Bangaa naturally excel on the front lines, thriving in roles that demand raw power and endurance. Their imposing stature and sheer resilience make them well-suited for jobs reliant on brute force. While their rough vocal cords make traditional spellcasting difficult, some Bangaa have mastered magic through unique incantations tailored to their own language, proving that even arcane arts are not beyond their grasp.

  • My character’s armor animation doesn’t fit, what’s going on?
    The races within this mod have custom bodies and animations that deviate from the single body the base game uses for every race. This means that while they can still equip it, cosmetically the animations won’t line up. Fortunately, the Viera have over 30 armor sets to choose from. More armor options are also planned.
  • Do you plan to support vanilla gear through mods like Armor Adapt?
    I absolutely plan to support refitting vanilla gear and may utilize Armor Adapt. At the very least, I aim to add a means of refitting gear to share between the different bodies. This will further remedy the above.
  • My old character’s ship is affected, halp!
    Existing characters will need to take a few steps to refresh to the new ship. Follow these steps here: Ship Fix
  • The Viera village I encountered might be missing a part
    There are a few minor issues with end parts of the tree canopy sometimes refusing to spawn. There is also a slight chance that no trees will spawn, making it difficult to reach the lower levels of villages. We’re working out a fix for this!

Yeah, I can certainly understand that. I'm working on some concepts for more Viera armors with a a sci-fi style--perhaps tier 7+-- and we're looking at what visuals we can utilize to make them more interesting. On the topic of the different body and animation, my only complaint is that it means I can't use some of the cool sci-fi styles of armor from the game and other mods. So just have a few in that style and I'll be happy lol. BUNS IN SPACE!

While the clear advantage is that races can share clothes with one another, I nevertheless do find the lack of greater distinction between races in vanilla Starbound embarassing actually. The idea that every race out in the universe would have the exact same body dimensions is highly unimaginative. Not to mention the fact that each race in Starbound was originally intended to be racially different before the developers dropped the ball.

You do make a great point in that the Avali are quite possibly the most popular modded race in Starbound, and they can't wear any vanilla clothes.

The fact all the vanilla races and most of what's on the workshop are so similar isn't embarrassing, it's a strength and it's why there is such a modding scene for this game. Anything that makes a race nonstandard will make it less compatible with other mods and even vanilla content. Viera can only wear viera clothes, and other races can't wear viera clothes. That's especially a problem when you change clothes people might have already put on their characters to no longer be compatible with them, without leaving the legacy versions available anywhere. That's not to say a race being distinct is purely a bad thing, the avali have nonstandard bodies and they're clearly very popular, but there are also lots of mods that support avali and add more clothes for them and even make some avali clothes wearable by standard races. Making things less standard makes them less compatible unless you put in the work to fix and adapt everything, which isn't always feasible or possible.

Sorry you're not satisfied with the direction of the race's aesthetics, but I can't please everyone. Moreover, all alterations were made not only to keep with the FF lore of the races contained within this mod (which I'm guessing you're not aware of), but to also provide some actual racial distinction which vanilla Starbound embarassingly lacks. Viera are a taller race, just as Moogles and Starbound's Penguins are a shorter race.

Jeeeesus, even removed the hairstyle and hair colour I used before.... the tall bodies and weird stances just don't fit.... Mod ruined, Uninstalled and down voted, sorry.
You over complicated the sprite art and now it's just a visual mess.

Awww man, I come back to Starbound and this race has been changed so much. I really prefer how my guy looked before.
