Millenium Dawn: Naval Procurement Deals

Description
A modification that fixes an oversight and injustice in the original Millennium Dawn mod regarding the trade of military ships. In reality, this is a multibillion-dollar market where countries have the ability to order the construction starting from small patrol boats — and, in rare cases, even purchase a second-hand aircraft carrier.

I’ve tried to represent the main types and classes of ships that were actually exported between 1990 and 2010 (some ships become available for purchase over time), or were offered for export / had the potential to be exported to third countries. For example, despite having the most powerful shipbuilding industry in the world, the United States, due to strategic interests and legal restrictions, will not sell anything larger than small minesweepers or corvettes to non-allied nations.

In the mod, the ability to purchase a ship is determined by the approximate price of an individual ship or class of ships, and by the relationship with the selling country. The most powerful ships are more expensive, and even if they are technically available for export, a seller will not offer large or flagship vessels like destroyers to a country with poor diplomatic relations.

Yes, you can simply buy a ship instead of building it. Enjoy!

Guys, I tested the mod on the new version of MD and it doesn’t require any fixes at the moment — everything works stably on MD 1.12.

Regarding the questions:

The AI can freely order all available ships through decisions, provided it has enough money and the required level of relations with the selling country. The only restriction is for aircraft carriers — the AI cannot order them (since they are unique units), and I left that option for the player only.

At the moment, I’m not planning to develop a similar mod for the vanilla game, mainly because I’m not interested in that time period or the ships of that era. This mod took about a month to make, most of which was spent collecting and organizing information about the ships, and only a few days were spent on actual coding. So without any enthusiasm for that era or those ships, I’m not considering such a project for now. But you can look for similar mods on the Workshop — maybe something like this has already been made.

Will AI buy ships too or is it just player?

Love this! Would it be possible to get a similar version for Vanilla/WW2 era?

@SGT_SnowFlake Hi! Thanks for pointing out the issue. Unfortunately, my playset broke too on the Steam version. I'm not sure if the problem is actually caused by my mod or by the game's code itself, since the mistake I made in the mod would normally just prevent the mod from launching — it shouldn't break the launcher.

That said, I’ve pushed some changes that should fix your problem with 99% certainty, but you'll need to create a new playset. The mod should be working properly now.
