Griffin's Ascent

Description

DISCLAIMER: Any resemblence to any IRL organisation, real or imagined, is not intended.
Griffin's Ascent is a sequel mod to Phalanx Downfall, depicting post-NATO invasion politics and conflict around the year 2028, featuring new factions and equipment, including a soft dependency for QAV Challenger 2 for AFOR. Global Mobilization, S&S, Phalanx Downfall, and W28 are the primary dependencies.

After the Treaty of Jerusalem, the loyalist faction of the FIA merged and took over the AAF, reforming it into the Altis and Stratis Defence Force (ASDF), replacing politically problem officers and known war criminals with now former FIA members, while enlisted AAF soldiers who were interned at the end of the war were given the choice of continuing service in the ASDF. This new force however is limited in equipment and capability by the treaty, including a total prohibition on rocket artillery, artillery in calibres larger than 105mm, possession of tanks(although the ASDF secretly maintains surviving leopards). Instead, with new western benefactors, the ASDF prioritises high end infantry capabilities, special forces, and precision equipment to keep the peace and maintain the countries territorial integrity.

They are supported in civil matters by the Altian Police Department, which largely survived the post-war purges by virtue of its leadership being secret FIA collaborators, nontheless it recieved a series of reforms to bring it more in line with the standards of policing in EU member states, which the government seeks to rejoin.

Working alongside the Altis and Stratis Defence Force, is AFOR (Altis Force), primarily composed of Danish soldiers, with a small mix of German, American, and British troops. AFOR works to support NATO's support programs to the ASDF, including training and direct combat support, while monitoring it to ensure compliance with the new standards. AFOR provides capabilities the ASDF lacks like heavy artillery and armour. On the flip side, American troops have been largely withdrawn (with some exceptions), as the presence of AAF veterans in some units of the ASDF potentially being forced to work together with Americans so soon after the war was believed to create unnecessary tensions, hence the primacy of Danes and to a lesser extent, Germans in the force.

Of particular concern to the new government, is the Nazarene Popular Support Forces (or NPSF), a Christian nationalist militia founded by the mysterious former head of the now defunct Altian Air Force Intelligence Directorate. The group has the curious organizational descendance from several Akhanterite groups, Junta intelligence officials, and even some right wing FIA groups with anti-western ideologies. Altis Defence Counterintelligence believes the NPSF is partly funded, backed, and advised by Iran, Russia, and to a lesser extent, Syria, with the group taking over the black market share of the now destroyed Golden Path to fund its other activities. While not as "popular" as its name suggests, and other than the "True FIA", it is one of the few groups in the post war era to control territory, even if minor.

It should be noted that other Akhanterite remnant groups have no suspected relations with the NPSF despite their similar goals and organizational descendance.

Among the reoccurring threats to the peace include the Akhanterite Remnant, made up of AAF soldiers who didn't surrender and Akhanterites who evaded capture and execution. while not considered a serious threat capable of displacing the new democratic regime, its members still engage in acts of terrorism and banditry, neccesitating direct action at times.

Being composed of experienced AAF and Akhanterite members, the remnant is full of skilled and competent individuals who were able to score early victories against new ASDF formations, however, the lack of resources, inability to politically consolidate different cells, and poor morale turned the remnant into nothing more than disparate cells of terrorists desperately trying to stay out of a court room in the netherlands.

Gun nuts, conspiracy theorists, extremists, sovereign citizens, larpers. Groups proclaiming themselves the "True FIA" in the wake of the invasion tend to have this worrying combination, and more... Although lacking in training or organizational coherence, these militia groups are well equipped, with members investing vast sums of personal wealth into purchasing their own gear, creating a situation where the new Altian government is reluctant to disposes them of their weapons in fear of creating an insurgency. For their part, these "True FIA" groups tend to harass police, ASDF, and AFOR troops in the western parts of Altis around Oreokastro and Kavala, complicating law and order, as well as forestalling government plans to move the capital to Kavala.

cont. Character length issues in my last comment.

If you really want to give the ASDF tanks in your scenarios, you can use the setobjecttexture command on the Global Mobilization vehicles and link to the generic texture.

\ACM_AAF_2028_core\vehicles\aaf_merdcDigi_pattern_1_1_co.paa
OR for the NPSF
\ACM_AAF_2028_core\vehicles\npsf_amoeba_pattern_1_1_co.paa

This should be a decent stop gap until i decide to work on the mod again.

For information on how to use the command in your scenarios, see:

The thing about Japan is that it has been nearly 70-80 years since the occupation. They can get away a whole lot more in treaty and legal restrictions than a freshly invaded Altis. Hence why I am not giving the ASDF tanks. The force was conceptually designed to not have any. AFOR is intended to compensate for this shortcoming in the scenario the ASDF did in fact need a tank in a manner consistent with the lore.

I also personally find it ridiculous for a very small island nation significantly poorer than Singapore to even operate tanks on any significant scale either. For Phalanx Downfall I chalked it up to the juntas megalomania since dictatorships are quite famous for not making wise spending decisions.

I'll consider additional armoured vehicles for the factions, but not of the tank variety. I was already pulling a stretch with the PT-76 for the NPSF, and that's a fairly balanced vehicle to operate all things considered since it has paper armour and a small cannon.
