More Treatments for Diseases Overhauled

Description
This mod adds treatments for and adjusts some conditions from Diseases Overhauled. It is not intended to provide easy cures, but an attempt to allow improvement and not stray too far from the original intent. Some diseases are still without cure because the real world says so. (And Healer mech serum has to be good for something.)
See bottom of this description for more cures and other useful mods.

Drug Regimens
Some conditions can be treated with a mix of drugs and meds. The individual effects of the drugs are not applied; there is no danger of developing addictions directly. The treatments are created as surgeries and depend on all the same factors. Failure won't cut the patient but cause a medical condition as a side effect, from frequent and mild (e.g. hangover) to rare and serious (e.g. heart attack). Failure is more likely than failure of regular surgeries (at least 8% compared to at least 2%). Note that one possible side effect is an alcohol high, which might tip a heavy drinker over into addiction.

!! Drug regimens (**) will only be listed if all ingredients are available !! Check the disease's description for details and make sure all ingredients are in stock.

Conditions
Appendicitis (Adjustment)
A new stage ("critical") is added which downs the pawn at 80% progression (originally 90%), so that guests/visitors can be operated on earlier.

**Bardel Syndrome (Cure)
Alleviates the condition to the almost symptom-free stage immediately. The condition will then abate over the course of 20 to 35 days.

**Campbell's Disease (Treatment)
Alleviates the condition to the symptom-free stage (only just). The rate of progression will probably be different after treatment. (The initial severity of the condition is lowered.)

**Cerebral Artery Stenosis (Cure)

**Chawbaeck's (Cure)
Drastic improvement or deterioration may occur, then the condition will abate over the course of 3 to 6 days, during which secondary conditions can still be induced with reduced chance.

Encapsulated Pathogen (Cure)
Surgeries are added which remove the encapsulated pathogen. They require 4 medicine and a somewhat skilled surgeon (8+). If the procedure fails, the patient is cut and the ruptured capsule infects them with the disease contained in it.

**Epstein-Barr Virus (Treatment [Cure with 1.5])
1.4 Suppresses virus activity to the symptom-free stage from which the patient's condition will deteriorate again. Rate of progression will probably be different after treatment. (The first stage is made visible and renamed "symptom-free".)
1.5 Drastic improvement or deterioration may occur, then the condition will abate over the course of 20 to 30 days.

**Hansen-Kampff disease (Cure)
Drastic improvement or deterioration may occur, then the condition will abate over the course of 10 to 17 days, during which secondary conditions can still be induced with reduced chance.

**Hepatitis K (Treatment [Cure with 1.5])
1.4 Alleviates to the balanced stage, from which the patient's condition may deteriorate again.
1.5 Drastic improvement or deterioration may occur, then the condition will abate over the course of 20 to 30 days.

Kindred D#ck Virus (Adjustment)
Tend duration is shortened from 36 to 24 hours.

Peripheral Pathway Obstruction (Cure)
Several revascularization surgeries are added. Depending on the condition's type (indistinguishable for the player; all types carry the same label), the surgeries have increasing requirements on the number of glitterworld medicine and the surgeon's skill level.

Psoriasis (Cure)
External psoriasis can be treated with an herbal poultice (herbal medicine/raw healroot with SeedsPlease: Lite, cloth, neutroamine). Repeated application may be necessary because of low success rate, but no negative effects are expected in case of failure. If successful, full recovery takes 4 to 6 days, during which new instances of the condition can still spawn with reduced chance.

**Psoriasis Interna (Cure)
Full recovery will take 4 to 8 days, during which new instances of the condition can still spawn with reduced chance.

Secondary Damage (Treatment/Cure)
Secondary damage is now tendable (duration 120 hours). At 100% tend quality there is a 50% chance that it can be cured over time. This depends on the condition's rate of progression which is determined by a random factor for each occurance.

Stomach Ulcer (Cure)
Cauterization surgery needs a somewhat skilled surgeon (8+). There is a chance of relapse during the recovery period of six to nine days.

**Voight-Bernstein Disease (Fix, Treatment only for 1.4)
Fix: Tumors no longer induce VBD in individual body parts.
1.4 treatment: Alleviates to the earliest stage from which the patient's condition may deteriorate again, probably at a different rate.
1.5 No drug regimen; the condition can be cured with tending over time.

Inoculations
Inoculations now provide immunity to more conditions.

Penoxycyline: Epstein-Barr virus, Hepatitis K

(And with VGP Garden Medicine)
De-Worm: Brain worm, heart worm, lung worms
Mecha-Gone: Lymphatic mechanites
Glitterworld Inoculation: Epstein-Barr virus, Hepatitis K, Kindred-♥♥♥♥ virus, new Reschian fever, Voight-Bernstein disease, tuberculosis, Bardel syndrome, Campbell's disease, brain worm, heart worm, lung worms, lymphatic mechanites

Patch for LWM's Deep Storage Medicine Cabinet
If you're using LWM's Deep Storage, the storage capacity of its medicine cabinet is increased from 5 stacks per tile to 8. (The patch will not work on already present cabinets in existing saves. Only newly built cabinets will get the changed properties.)

Credits
The original author of Diseases Overhauled was PhineasFogg (on Ludeon[ludeon.com]), then it has been updated/reuploaded/taken care of by a nuber of other people, and finally Mythos and now Ogliss. Thanks to all of them for creating the mod/keeping it alive!

This mod contains HediffDefs and patched stages which are derived directly from the original HediffDefs. Some code was copied and adapted. This is clearly labeled inside this mod's XML files.
The dll contains a new workerClass for surgery (switch hediff for hediff), which consists entirely of code adapted from the base game.

Good day mod author, i am mod user, may i request that you take it upon yourself to update this mod (and it's requirement of course) to 1.6? I'll gladly await the update and implode if you refuse, thanks.

@Zeezus Yes, shouldn't be a problem. (Still, always back up your save when messing with mods mid-game.)
@lol I'll look into adding a patch for it.
Zooted Jun 19 @ 7:17am
can i add this midgame?

Since Ogliss doesnt seem to be active, maybe you could consider looking into this?

Hediffs_Local_EpsteinBarr.xml has
—— <hediff>Toothache</hediff>
—— which <canAffectAnyLivePart>true</canAffectAnyLivePart>. Pretty sure it's a bug and herpes can't give toothache to any bodypart

glad that I was able to help :)

@Capefear56 Did you mean to comment on Diseases Overhauled? This mod doesn't modify the necrosis condition.
Capefear56 Jun 2 @ 7:15pm
Finally, some sanity for my favorite disease mod!

One thing though: should necrosis be able to spread to surrounding parts?

Update: Support for Anomaly's creep joiner. They should now be able to undergo the surgeries and drug regimens created by this mod. Thank you to Frank Brown for providing the solution for this issue. (I still don't own Anomaly, still not planning to get it.)

Update:
-Added surgeries to remove encapsulated pathogens. Thank you to CrazyOwl for the suggestion.
-Added fix for Voight-Bernstein disease, so that tumors can only induce the original disease once in the entire body and not multiple times in individual body parts.
klvlt  [author] Dec 19, 2024 @ 3:21pm
@CrazyOwl Surgery to remove an encapsulated pathogen seems like a reasonable idea, maybe with a risk of it bursting if the procedure fails. I'll look into possibly implementing that.
