Description

SPEX or Spearhead Extended is the official workshop mod created by the Heavy Ordnance Works team. Designed to host ‘in-between release’ content created by the team, it aims to fill gaps in content as required when the team needs an agile delivery.

Overview
Continuing the stories of the Allied breakthrough in Normandy, SPEX allows you to step in the shoes of other units in France and abroad. Traverse new, detailed terrains inspired by historic locations, including Lingèvres, Utah Beach, and Carentan, and engage in intense combat with iconic units and gear like the 7th Armoured Division and 327th GIR.

Choose your approach with an array of authentic World War II weapons and vehicles. Take to the skies in C-47 Skytrains or glide into action with Horsa and Waco gliders. Spearhead Expanded offers the flexibility to immerse yourself in large-scale, realistic combat scenarios, whether solo or with friends, bringing the Arma military sandbox to life in a whole new era.

Key Features
Lingèvres - 16 km2 terrain

This British sector terrain, designed in 1:1 scale, captures the rugged terrain and strategic significance of this fierce battleground in the Normandy breakthrough. Key locations, including the war-torn village of Lingevres, the surrounding bocage, fortified German positions, and the distinctive orchard fields, are brought to life in stunning detail.

Be ready to navigate dense hedgerows, maneuver through the intricate network of orchard fields, and engage in intense close-quarters combat within the village. The abundance of micro vegetation adds depth to the battlefield, providing natural concealment and tactical opportunities.

Utah Beach - 58.98 km2 terrain

This meticulously crafted 1:2 scale recreation of Utah Beach, captures the vast beaches and pivotal landmarks of the D-Day assault. Key locations, including the iconic towns of Sainte-Mère-Église and Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, the flooded fields, and the fortified stronghold of Brécourt Manor, bring history to life in stunning detail.

Prepare to assault the wide-open beachhead, navigate challenging flooded landscapes, and explore the scenic Normandy countryside. With various detailed, area-specific landscapes and objects, this terrain immerses players in the atmosphere of the Utah Beach landings and the fierce battles that followed.

Carentan - 58.98 km2 Terrain

This new terrain offers a highly detailed, 1:1 recreation of the Carentan area, bringing to life key locations that witnessed intense fighting during World War II. Iconic landmarks like the town of Carentan, Purple Heart Lane, Dead Man’s Corner, Saint-Côme-du-Mont, Hill 30, and the Barquette Lock have all been carefully crafted for realism.

The Carentan terrain is filled with strategic fighting positions and fortified checkpoints. Winding rivers, challenging sunken fields, secluded farmsteads, lush orchards, and traditional villages span the landscape, accompanied by meticulously designed, period-specific buildings. Together, they deliver an immersive recreation of the Carentan region, down to its distinct landmarks.

Compatibility Data for Spearhead 1944 Non-Owners
For the best experience with this mod, you need to own the Arma 3 CDLC: Spearhead 1944. You can use SPEX assets and terrains without purchasing CDLC, but this rule doesn’t apply to assets directly inherited from the CDLC (e.g., M4 Sherman = Sherman I). To use those assets, you will need to own the CDLC. People who do not own the Spearhead can download and install optional data via the Arma 3 Steam Workshop.

this is fantastic! would you consider doing some logistics versions of the trucks for both sides? No addons really utilise the logistics stuff on Arma 3 fully sadly

PS would also love to see more commonwealth tanks. Matilda's (maybe the ausie hedgehog one and the scorpion mine flail too), Cromwell's, Churchill's, Crusader's, Sexton, Bishop, maybe even the archer!

This is just a little pet peeve of mine, but is there a way to lock the direction of the commander cupola's? On the firefly's when the tank drives and turns, and the turret rotates, the commander cupola stays facing the same direction.

If you drive down a road and take a turn, you have to turn back in, rotate the turret and turn out again in order to keep looking straight ahead.

A feature to keep the cupola's facing the same way as the turret, or lock the cupola the same direction when turned out would fix this.
