Zoom Out More Mod

Description
Zoom Out More! Mod
Updated 12/25/20

Mod Information
Allows you to zoom out more!

The default zoom level in Company of Heroes 2 always felt claustrophobic to me, so I made this mod to improve it.

Since extreme levels of zoom may cause graphical anomalies on lower graphics settings, and possibly on maps with weather effects (storm/lightning, for example), I have chosen to limit the zoom to a level that expands the field of view comfortably without causing any significant issues.

The default camera tilt has also been adjusted slightly to position the camera more perpendicular to the terrain to help enhance the field of view.

Remember, you always have the option to adjust the camera tilt by holding the Alt key and moving your mouse in-game.

Game Modes

You can select from Victory Points with Annihilation (listed in-game as "Victory Points", but both win conditions are active) or Annihilation without Victory Points, listed in-game as "Annihilation".

The game modes have been changed because the modding tools provided for the game inherently bundle the win condition logic with the functions necessary to modify the zoom levels.

How to Use This Mod

When running the mod, select "Zoom Out More! - Victory Points" or "Zoom Out More! - Annihilation" from the Win Condition drop-down menu on the Skirmish screen.

If you selected the Victory Points game mode, then, additionally, select the number of Victory Points from the sub-menu that appears.

Please note: while all of the following victory point options exist, you will only ever see three shown at one time. After clicking on the Victory Points drop-down menu, you scroll with your mouse wheel to see the the other options.

VP options available: 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1250, 1500

I am pretty sure if you use a similar mod in COH3 and then save ,the zoom stays when you open up your save. Maybe time to check out the new COH3 as well -just wait for the next sale.

Why when i save my skirmish against AI, and then when i open the save, the zoom out is gone ?

When I save a Skirmish against the Ai.
And then load the game ,my Zoom is gone.

Any way for me to solve this?

Hi Raz. Your mod has been indispensable for CoH2 play! Will you be making a version for CoH3 at launch?

With the upcoming release of Company of Heroes 3, I am going to stop maintaining this mod.

@GaborHart It still works for Skirmishes, but I don't believe it works for multiplayer anymore.

Online multiplayer working?

@Raz they disappear but only at the upper edge of the screen, probably has something to do with their drawing distance being too low to compensate for the increased zoom distance.

@Long Johnson If I'm understanding your issue do you mean that shadows disappear if you zoom out too far? You could try lowering the Shadow quality one quality setting, lowering the Shader quality one quality setting, or disabling Anti-Aliasing, if it's enabled - see if any of those help. I hope this helps!

If that doesn't resolve it then it may be a bug with the mod on some some maps or it could also be a bug in the game engine itself.

Hi, maybe I'm missing something obvious, but how do I avoid the shadow fading being visible when I'm zoomed out? As far as I know my graphics are maxed out and I can still see the region where the shadow disappears, which is very distracting. Is there anyway this can be avoided? Thanks for the mod, BTW!

@moterito It depends on whether or not the Spearhead mod modifies victory conditions, as that is the portion of code that the Zoom Out More mod has to exist in. From a quick look, it doesn't seem like Spearhead is doing that, so the two mods may work if installed together.

This mod could be consolidated with nearly any other mod, but other mod developers would need to incorporate my changes into their files, otherwise one would simply overwrite the other.
