Very Immersive Events and Tales (VIET), the sequel to VIET Events Reborn for CK2, is a flavor mod that adds a vast collection of events about everyday life to spice up your game. They add immersion and a diversity of experiences in between wars and vanilla’s event chains, and cover mundane minutiae from small talk with courtiers and eating local cuisine to epic tales about love, philosophy, and the human condition. Some events even unlock new decisions, interactions, activities, and much more for you to explore!

I hope the lessons I learned from my years of modding CK2 will help me deliver a fun experience for those who play my mods, and I hope to add more and more events in every update.

VIET WORKS ON EXISTING SAVES! (Though remember to make a backup copy of your save just in case.)

Feel free to use my work in your mods - all I ask is that I am credited and (if possible) to give me a heads up. And if you liked the mod, feel free to favorite and rate it up!

  • Over 1227 new flavor events to experience!
  • Explore new decisions, artifacts, character interactions, activities, and more!
  • Game rule to disable sillier events for those who don't like them, with three levels to choose from: Balanced (Default), Serious (Restricted), and All Events (Full)
  • Compatible with almost anything since it doesn't touch any vanilla files - even with overhaul mods, you can via game rule disable events that reference things specific to our medieval world that wouldn’t make sense in other time periods or universes (like fantasy/sci-fi conversion mods)
  • Learn history with Historical Context tooltips that provide information about what inspired some of the events - sometimes, reality is stranger than fiction! (These can be disabled via game rule for those who find it immersion breaking.)

TRANSLATIONS AVAILABLE
Because people are kindly spending their own free time and effort to work on these translations, please be aware that the folks working on these translations may or may not be up to date with the latest version of VIET. Do note that all non-English languages available in the vanilla game has placeholder English localization in the base version of VIET, so they can be safely run, it will just display untranslated text in English (instead of gibberish).

Please see the FAQ on my mods' website[cybrxkhansmods.godaddysites.com] for more info.

Version 1.18.0 "Pu Songling"

“Here in the civilized world, stranger events by far occur than in the Country of Cropped Hair; Before our very eyes, weirder tales unfold than in the Nation of Flying Heads.”
- – Pu Songling, Chinese writer (1640-1715), in the preface of his Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio

New events added in this version: 7

Thanks to all I worked with, took stuff from, and provided me encouragement and feedback over the years. Special thanks in particular to the teams behind WTWSMS (especially IlikeTrains and Loup99) and Lux Invicta (including tsf4), as well as M@ni@c, creator of Hide Your Jewelry, for maintaining and improving on VIET for CK2 over the years, which provided me a solid foundation for improved reboot of VIET Events. Huge thanks also to the kind souls who take the time to translate the mod and put up with my erratic update schedule.

A few other shoutouts in particular:

  • Bonseny for the amazing VIET and RICE logos
  • OrdepNM, my partner in crime in the early days of VIET for CK2 and who stepped up to help maintain it while I had serious medical issues years ago.
  • Sleight of Hand for pushing me to get into the CK2 modding scene and for other assistance over the years, which is why I am still here for some reason.
  • tora75 for contributing the Norse unique localizations for several events.
  • Stik, Vertimnus, and Tobbzn on the CK3 Mod Co-op for helping me figure out how to adapt my CK2 province events and do a system for county events for CK3.

Then, like Cybrxkhan said, make your own sub-mod for this to remove the things you don't want to see.

I just want a option to disable the events that are based on something egregiously far away on the timeline. Vanilla has the problem of nothing happening or the opposite. I am the leader of the Roman Empire yet everybody ignored me or will not stop pausing the game thorough constant events.

@CitesSkyliner Look, you clearly don't like the events, and that's fine! (I think there's probably more actual immersion breaking nonsense in vanilla.) You aren't going to change my mind about what I consider reasonable or not reasonable for these events, so If you don't like the events, you're welcome to try making your own sub-mod that disables the ones you think are immersion breaking, I have no problem with that.

People may have similar senses of humor, but would those jokes have been remembered and written down or did only 1 small group of people know about it? Even if the joke from 1412 existed in 880 how many people would know about it for it to be referenced to you the player? Would it make sense for you to get the event if only 1 random peasant half-way across the world from you knew the joke?
cybrxkhan  [author] Nov 4 @ 6:11pm
@CitesSkyliner I see no reason why someone couldn't theoretically think of a joke attested in one date in another date if there's nothing really specific to that time period in the joke, as people have shared similar senses of humor across time. Plus, that would just be our earliest attested case of that joke, it's entirely possible an exact similar joke might have been around much longer.

And cybrxkhan some events do make a lot sense in RICE. For example: The activity to go to the Micheal the archangel travel option is perfectly fine. Multiple sources from multiple eras attest to people doing that.

I still see a problem if the date range is ridiculous off. Does a very specific joke from a book written in 1411 make sense being referenced in 879?
cybrxkhan  [author] Nov 3 @ 7:11pm
@CitesSkyliner: The context may be from a certain date, but that doesn't necessarily mean whatever it describes was only in that date. For instance, a joke being from so and so date doesn't mean people wouldn't have thought of similar jokes before. Or, something from a certain date might just be a famous recorded instance of it happening, so other instances from other time periods may be possible. These events are mostly designed to be "minor" enough and genericized enough to feasibly have happened across much of the CK3 timeframe. The few that aren't, such as the 1006 Supernova, are triggered at an appropriate timeframe.

@F5 Danny: Thanks!

Gracias por la traducción al español en especial a Ferchu!!
CitesSkyliner Nov 3 @ 8:54am
There is no button for that! And besides the problem still exists because the developers based the events after books and quotes that take place in the future from when you are playing!
