VIET Events - A Flavor and Immersion Event Mod

@CitesSkyliner There are 1000+ events in VIET, I don't have time to sort through every single one of them and decide and modify their code based on whether they fit a game rule based on one person's interpretation of what would be historically plausible. I'm really sorry, but this seems like something that would work better as a sub-mod.
Paragon Nov 6 @ 8:22pm
Bros crashing out about a literal joke lmao
tilarium Nov 6 @ 7:59am
Then, like Cybrxkhan said, make your own sub-mod for this to remove the things you don't want to see.
CitesSkyliner Nov 6 @ 7:10am
I just want a option to disable the events that are based on something egregiously far away on the timeline. Vanilla has the problem of nothing happening or the opposite. I am the leader of the Roman Empire yet everybody ignored me or will not stop pausing the game thorough constant events.
cybrxkhan  [author] Nov 5 @ 9:16pm
@CitesSkyliner Look, you clearly don't like the events, and that's fine! (I think there's probably more actual immersion breaking nonsense in vanilla.) You aren't going to change my mind about what I consider reasonable or not reasonable for these events, so If you don't like the events, you're welcome to try making your own sub-mod that disables the ones you think are immersion breaking, I have no problem with that.
CitesSkyliner Nov 5 @ 7:00am
People may have similar senses of humor, but would those jokes have been remembered and written down or did only 1 small group of people know about it? Even if the joke from 1412 existed in 880 how many people would know about it for it to be referenced to you the player? Would it make sense for you to get the event if only 1 random peasant half-way across the world from you knew the joke?
cybrxkhan  [author] Nov 4 @ 6:11pm
@CitesSkyliner I see no reason why someone couldn't theoretically think of a joke attested in one date in another date if there's nothing really specific to that time period in the joke, as people have shared similar senses of humor across time. Plus, that would just be our earliest attested case of that joke, it's entirely possible an exact similar joke might have been around much longer.
CitesSkyliner Nov 4 @ 9:14am
And cybrxkhan some events do make a lot sense in RICE. For example: The activity to go to the Micheal the archangel travel option is perfectly fine. Multiple sources from multiple eras attest to people doing that.
CitesSkyliner Nov 4 @ 9:09am
I still see a problem if the date range is ridiculous off. Does a very specific joke from a book written in 1411 make sense being referenced in 879?
cybrxkhan  [author] Nov 3 @ 7:11pm
@CitesSkyliner: The context may be from a certain date, but that doesn't necessarily mean whatever it describes was only in that date. For instance, a joke being from so and so date doesn't mean people wouldn't have thought of similar jokes before. Or, something from a certain date might just be a famous recorded instance of it happening, so other instances from other time periods may be possible. These events are mostly designed to be "minor" enough and genericized enough to feasibly have happened across much of the CK3 timeframe. The few that aren't, such as the 1006 Supernova, are triggered at an appropriate timeframe.

@F5 Danny: Thanks!
Danny Nov 3 @ 6:58pm
Gracias por la traducción al español en especial a Ferchu!!
CitesSkyliner Nov 3 @ 8:54am
There is no button for that! And besides the problem still exists because the developers based the events after books and quotes that take place in the future from when you are playing!
tilarium Nov 3 @ 8:43am
Just turn off the context then. Sheesh, talk about nitpicking. The context is there to try and learn you something.
CitesSkyliner Nov 3 @ 7:07am
So I have a severe problem with the Viet mod even though I enjoy it: The mod uses historical context to explain the event from a book or historical knowledge but the book or quote is from the future! Why are you talking about a book written in 1412 when in game it is 950!? Could you resolve the problem or explain it?
cybrxkhan  [author] Nov 3 @ 12:24am
@CitesSkyliner Thanks!
CitesSkyliner Nov 2 @ 3:38pm
Absolutely amazing yall updated so fast here!

CrusadeExterminator Oct 31 @ 7:54pm
such a great mod i have had it for years
cybrxkhan  [author] Oct 30 @ 10:44pm
@riki | malandro: No problem!

@Dropkick: As Ghost Fox said, the VIET mod has nothing to do with EPE and does not interact with EPE in any way, and I'm not involved with EPE per se. The new update has borked EPE so it will take a while before the EPE folks are able to update their mod.
Ghost Fox (ΘΔ) Oct 30 @ 2:34pm
…Why are you complaining about EPE in the VIET comments?
Dropkick Oct 30 @ 2:13pm
While all great mod get update,Ethnicities and Portraits Expanded no update all my character look like skeleton now,i'm done with this mod delete forever.
riki | malandro Oct 29 @ 10:07pm
Thanks!

@Moloch
@TheSpicySalmon
Thank you!

@十亿卡巴尔的梦 This mod doesn't affect mechanics like assembling an army, it just adds in random flavor events. I don't think I have even had time to adjust any of the content to account for the treasury system yet lol

@kikooacr
@riki | malandro
You can download the manual install version off of GitHub (see link at the top of the description), it has every version of the mod including the one for 1.17.1. Just make sure to unsubscribe from the Steam workshop version so your game doesn't get confused between the two versions.
riki | malandro Oct 29 @ 6:31pm
please upload a version for overhaul mods like EK2, we need 1.17.1 version :steamsad:
十亿卡巴尔的梦 Oct 29 @ 5:33am
I have a question. In this mod, when you play as the Chinese emperor in AUH, assembling an army incurs maintenance costs twice: once from the national treasury and once from your original money. The correct way is to only deduct from the national treasury.
kikooacr Oct 29 @ 4:37am
Where can I find the mod for version 1.17.1 (Ascendant)?
TheSpicySalmon Oct 28 @ 3:21pm
good update GOAT of ck3 modding
Moloch Oct 28 @ 1:19pm
thanks for the quick update man
cybrxkhan  [author] Oct 28 @ 12:33pm

From the (link) websites faq:

Is VIET compatible with X mod?
Yes. VIET is technically compatible with everything, even total conversion overhauls as I do not edit any vanilla code. If you're using a conversion mod, make sure to check the Universe game rule - these options disable some events that don't make sense for certain settings (for instance, an event referring to China wouldn't make sense in the Elder Kings mod, while a event that talks about Charlemagne wouldn't make sense for the Bronze Age mod).
CookieCae Sep 16 @ 11:50pm
Hi @cybrxkhan is this compatible with Agot??
cybrxkhan  [author] Sep 14 @ 6:46pm
@Pilatian It is intended to gameplay-wise be like a harm event, but it's pretty rare (I've never gotten it naturally in all my years of playtesting) so that's not much an issue to me since it's meant to be a memorable one off thing rather than a dedicated "system" the player has to deal with on a consistent basis without input like the harm events. Anyhow, I skimmed through some code and discover there is a way to trigger something based on whether they have a trait granting immortality or not, and I think I can just put a check for it to not trigger when you're playing Realms in Exile and have elven heritage.
cybrxkhan  [author] Sep 13 @ 11:10pm
@FyrFly It should be okay, yeah, since I didn't really need to update anything. If on the off chance you encounter any issues, you can use the manual install version off of GitHub (see the top of the comments for the link) and download and install an older version of the mod from 1.16. However, make sure to unsubscribe from the Steam version if you do that so there's only one version of the mod running. I doubt you'll have to do the manual install version but I'll just mention it just in case.

@Pilatian I don't think it makes sense to disable it for TCs wholescale since a lot of characters would still qualify, both for fantasy and non-fantasy TCs, but I'll see if I can find other ways to disable it for those kinds of characters. I've made a note to look into that in my notes.

@FTX No problem!
FTX Sep 13 @ 7:17pm
I carefully reviewed your reply and found that I did not add a translation mod. Thank you very much for your reply. Thank you
FyrFly Sep 13 @ 1:47am
Do you think this will still function in 1.16?
cybrxkhan  [author] Sep 12 @ 10:41pm
@FTX Which language are you using? Some languages will default to English as placeholders, but other languages will require sub-mods, per the requests of the translators. Please see the section in the description above on languages to see if your language requires a translation sub-mod.
FTX Sep 12 @ 9:19pm
Hello author, I really like your mod, but I found that the text displayed in the new event is code instead of my language during use. Could you please help me
cybrxkhan  [author] Sep 11 @ 11:42pm
@Crismac Thanks! On the modding end this appears to have been a relatively unintrusive update for us, but obviously one should still exercise some caution for any mods that are not officially updated yet, just in case because you never know.
Crismac Sep 9 @ 10:33pm
Must not been a whole lot to this update. I started a game today with the 52 mods I have and had no issues. Congrats on your 5th anniversary.
cybrxkhan  [author] Sep 9 @ 8:48pm
Hello everyone, VIET has been updated to 1.17/Coronations, and in time for the 5th anniversary update too. Thanks for your continued support!
cybrxkhan  [author] Sep 8 @ 6:39pm
@Crismac You're welcome! Hopefully VIET will be updated relatively quickly. RICE will probably take a bit longer obviously.
Crismac Sep 8 @ 8:21am
Last day to play before all the mods need updated. Then the wait begins again. Thanks cybrxkhan for everything you do!
cybrxkhan  [author] Sep 3 @ 8:43pm
@Purple Regrets: Load order usually shouldn't be an issue with VIET, unless you're using a translation submod or some other kind of submod, then obviously those should be after VIET. However be sure to read other mods' descriptions just in case they indicate VIET should be placed somewhere, I don't keep up with every mod out there.
Purple Regrets Sep 2 @ 1:48am
What is the loading order?
cybrxkhan  [author] Aug 27 @ 10:01pm
@Brondo765 Thanks!
