Before 2004 wrestling was a mostly unknown phenomenon in Denmark. The mainstream audiences only knew about it from the burly strongman Asbjørn Riis - A Danish pro wrestler who is California trained. Riis travelled Denmark with his Hulk Hogan esque persona and held small wrestling exhibitions. Seeing that Asbjørn had the only wrestling ring in Denmark, a number of aspiring Danish wrestlers trained with Asbjørn on the small island of Mors in Northern Denmark. However, there was a dispute between the trainees and Asbjørn, which resulted in them going their separate ways.

The schism resulted in the birth of Danish Pro Wrestling.

Danish Pro Wrestling (DPW) was founded in 2004 by promoter Daniel Grønaa.
