Introduction: Kingdom of the Vandals and Alans
The Vandal Kingdom was established on the conquered region of North Africa.
It was a region occupied by East Germanic (or Slavic) tribes under King Gaiseric.
The Kingdom was later conquered by Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in the Vandalic War.

The Vandals under their commander Gaiseric migrated from parts of what is nowadays Poland towards the River Rhine and into Spain while being hunted down by mercenaries. Gaiseric decided to cross the Gibraltar Strait with all his people in 429 A.D. Valentinian III was a ruthless king that relentlessly persecuted Catholics and other Christian denominations.

In 430 A.D., the Vandals besieged the walled city of Hippo Regius, discovering Saint Augustine and his priests praying for Roman intervention. Five years later, a peace treaty granted them control of coastal Numidia and parts of Mauretania.

After conflicts in the Western Roman Empire, Gaiseric broke the treaty in 439 A.D. He invaded Proconsularis and besieged Carthage, capturing it without resistance, as the inhabitants were at the Hippodrome for chariot races.

Gaiseric proclaimed himself King of the Vandals and Alans, later conquering Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Malta, the Balearic Islands, and launching a massive assault on Rome.

Following Attila the Hun's death, the Romans sought to integrate the Vandals into their Empire. Valentinian III offered his daughter's hand in marriage to Gaiseric's son, Huneric. Political intrigues ensued, culminating in Petronius Maximus' murder of Valentinian III.

Diplomacy collapsed, and in 455 A.D., Empress Licinia Eudoxia implored Huneric to rescue her and her daughters, Eudocia and Placidia.

On June 2, 455 A.D., Pope Leo the Great met with Genseric to prevent further violence. The Vandals seized valuables and Empress Licinia with her daughters. By 476, the Western Roman Empire had descended into disarray, while the Eastern part thrived, albeit challenged by the rapid spread of Islam.

Hilderic, a Catholic ruler, governed the Vandal Kingdom from 523 to 530. Despite his faith, Hilderic faced unpopularity among his mainly Arian subjects. His efforts to grant rights to Catholics triggered a revolt led by his cousin Gelimer. Justinian I pressured Hilderic to prioritize Catholicism, but Hilderic's rule remained tumultuous.

After seven years, Gelimer's fervent Arian revolt succeeded in overthrowing Hilderic, reinstating Arianism. Roman Emperor Justinian I protested. With a legal pretext for invasion, he send Belisarius to conquer the region, marking the end of the Vandal Kingdom.

In the 14th century, Sultan Osman I established a small principality, which later evolved into the Ottoman Empire. In 1453, the Eastern Roman Empire fell as the Ottomans captured Constantinople, weakened by a plague outbreak. The city's name changed to Istanbul, becoming the new Ottoman capital.

Mod Story
In this alternate history, Gelimer's revolt failed and he was executed. With Hilderic still King, his rule remained contested by the predominantly devout Arians. From here on, the Kingdom went into permanent decline. Around 660 or 680 AD, the Vandal Kingdom fell to invasion from the Umayyad Caliphate, having the Vandal nobility flee and seek refugee at the Papal States and the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine branch assimilated into society and died off around 750 AD.

Around 1063 AD, the remaining Vandals in the Papal States fell victim to internal conflicts and assimilating pressure into Italian culture. The remaining Vandal nobility split, with half migrating into the Holy Roman Empire and aquiring lands and title. And in 1453, what remained of the Byzantine Empire fell to Ottoman forces, marking the fall of Constantinople. At this point in time, any legitimate claims on Carthage were already long gone...

However, intermarriages remain a useful tool. And why wouldn't we assume that later a possible individual of Vandal nobility was more interested in women and lavish parties than customs, and sought to travel Europe? Having an Anatolian friend spot him by coincidence, asking him to join into an elite and lavish party where he falls in love to an Ottoman princess?
He may convert to Islam and obtain an administrative position, opening the possibility for his family to return and see what has become of Carthage(Tunis) their ancestors once ruled?

Fall of the Ottomans
In 1830, an invasion led to the Ottoman navy's defeat. Western powers recognized Greece's independence following its earlier struggle. France refrained from taking Algeria due to Vandal and semi-independent Ottoman control.

In 1911, Italy declared war on the Ottoman Empire, conquering Tripolitania but facing a Vandal-backed defeat elsewhere and the rest of World War I and the Balkan Wars proceeded as usual.

Later, the British and French partitioned the Ottoman Empire via the Sykes-Picot Agreement, which the Turks opposed. Mustafa Kemal and his nationalist party convened in Ankara, rejecting the Sultan's authority and the Treaty of Sèvres. In 1920, his party won elections, leading to the Turkish War of Independence, aided by the Vandals. Within three years, the Turks, with Vandal support, ousted the occupiers.

On November 1st, 1922, the Sultanate dissolved, and Mehmet VI fled to the Ottoman, Vandal auxillary kingdom, marking the Ottoman Empire's end. On October 29th, 1923, the Turkish Republic was formed, granting the Vandals their independence.

If I were the mod author, I'd keep the 3rd tree and drop the others. But that's just my thoughts on the subject.

Another new game version update. People might not like this, but I'll be updating the mod AND remove stuff to make it much easier for myself to maintain the mod. This all can be read in the patch notes.

Yeah. The second was an overhaul to add more but keep concise and replace the original. Then Paradox started making huge trees and I followed with a new overhaul of everything that was lacking in both to replace both. I still have to cut out 1 or more as upholding 3 is a pain.

Never mind. Manually triggered the follow-on event, then commented them out.

Can we get rid of the Ramadan events? In my current playthrough I've had it for the last 4 months, and it's causing me to lose an air war I should be winning. I know it should be cycling on and off, but this time in 1941 it just won't go away.

To be honest, it adds nothing to the game, and in a major war, only the most fanatic would insist on that sort of fasting.

Yes, as it costs PP to generate random ones, and they start off quite weak.
