(READ DESCRIPTION) Cat's Beefier Gatlings - Custom Gatling Sounds (Overhaul update! v0.3)

Description
// THE VIDEO IS OBSOLETE! WAIT FOR AN UPDATE - ONLY AVAILABLE FOR ARCADE SOUND \\

Here at Cats 'n' Co' we've always felt the gatlings sounded a bit underpowered, not only considering their size and damage output, but compared to its modern contemporaries.

So after countless crashes, we bring you Cat's Beefier Gatlings: a small mod that replaces the vanilla gatling sound with something a bit more fitting. It does NOT make *any* changes to the function of the weapon, just overhauls the sound.

Finally pushed out v0.3! I didn't feel the previous sounds were good as they kept stepping on eachother and felt a bit muddy for how fast they were shooting. So i changed it! If you still want to play with the old sounds you can play with the legacy branch at https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3370269922. This new update also features custom no ammo sounds for gatlings, which give them a snappier more "cling" sound.

And just a huge shoutout to RoxieDog, as they were of great help kickstarting the project. I still can't thank you enough.

(Remember: if you like the mod or you have something to say please leave a comment! it's the best way to give me feedback, even if that feedback is you love the mod or hate the sounds!)

oh go nuts!
if you want a small pointer to get you started. if you go to your space engineers installation folder "Content > Data" there are a BUNCH of .sbc files you can go in and edit.

they're all labled with what they are and if you use a text editor like notepad++ (which is a completely free to download - super light weight program) you can go in and change values to your liking. it probably won't let you make significant changes to the behaviour but you can tweak a bunch of things!

if you go to SteamLibrary > steamapps > workshop > content > 244850 > 3303097957 (which is this mod's directory) you can snoop around my frankly really messy code and figure some stuff out.

i'm personally a mediocre artist, far from a programmer, and i figured it out. i bet my ass so can you.

I am dogshit at programming, I can edit files sure, so this is the first instance I have actually thought to just go in and do it myself with your input. I have tons of minor things I feel make the game better, sure we all do.

P.S. this is a delicious mod

you'd be surprised how customisable guns are. realistically if you want them to be heard from further away you can literally tweak the "distance" value. if you want them to be louder the "volume" value.

it's honestly not as big a deal, i might consider it.

and also just a small clarification, this was mostly a test. i'm still working on these sounds to make them just a bit cleaner (and finish the realistic and distant sounds), but i may also start working on replacement mods for all the vanilla weapons.

I'd suggest - if you're interested - that you look into making a mod like this. because literally all the things that make noise in-game have an associated .wav file you can very easily override (that's literally all this mod does). i can 100% help you get started then just let you go nuts with it :)

The one thing keeping this game from being really immersive for me is the sound design. Unless I overload my base with timed sound blocks, it just feels lifeless. Explosions don't really have an audible weight, crashes feel chaotic with overlapping block-destruction fxs playing. All the guns feel like what someone thinks a high-power cannon should sound like, if they've never heard it for themselves. Also, sounds should be audible from much farther away, especially gunshots. Sorry for the bible, I know something like this would be a massive undertaking and I am in no way asking you to commit yourself to that. This mod, however, is certainly a step in the right direction. Thanks for uploading this.

you definitely have some good ideas but i'm not quite getting what you mean, do you mind if i dm you so you can help me design those sounds as well?

It's extremly tough finding any (Sound replacemt) mods for just --Vanilla Weapons--
And this is just the thing i've have been looking for.

I'd would absolutly love it, if you could a make a really powerfull sounding

A (Heavy boom like firing) AssaultCannon / turret > (But slightly lighter)

A (Very bolty firing sounding) AutoCannon / turret

And also a (Quick and snappy) Rocket launcher /Dlc

And with / without added shell reloading sound effects after firing each shot.

it's been a bit since i last checked up on it, i'll absolutely continue it if you like it that much! hah.
i know i got a thing or two in my list of things to do: i gotta finish "realistic" sounds and slightly rework the current sounds so they're a *tiiny* bit shorter and don't step on eachother

Yes. This is the mod i have been looking for so long. Now the gatling gun truly sounds what it should have been.
