Thats a very sharp sword you have there. :3

It does help thanks :) I think one of the major downfalls is that I very roughly know how to make the masks for the textures and when I downloaded the files for dragon knight, the mask1 file was missing so I had no reference to go on and just kept trying until it looked reasonably good. I would imagine if I fully understood how to create the masks as well as texturing well, it would look a whole lot different

Just as an example; this render shows a custon set for Sven where the areas of diffuse map representing metal are not *just* a grey gradiant but textured in a way that shows highlights and irregularities from the metal surface and reflections.

The contrast scheme in Dota2 tends to be fairly high range but slightly 'clipped' so to speak. No pure whites or blacks but still a big range in luminosity (brightness) of any area in the texture.

Perhaps try some of the grey mottling like the sword in the example, following the lines of your own sword's design.
Just a suggestion that might give you some ideas. Hope it's helpful :)

I'm guess the 'poor' texture is to do with the blade? As you can guess, I'm not great in the texturing side of things. Any ideas what would make the blade look better?

GREAT concept and design! I gotta echo the other comments about the texture though. Needs some work. If possible try a more painterly/illustrated style to fit the Dota2 theme.

I agree with the others. The shape and design is great, but the blade texturing needs a little work. Keep up with it though :)
