A look at the second version:

Before you load your world you can edit the settings for it. You can change them there (along with other settings like survival/creative, tool shake, etc.).
If the world you are in has a block limit that's typically the message you'll end up getting. If it's your own world just turn the settings off and you should be good to go.

The shipyard is basically done but completion is being roadblocked with problems with the pistons in the extendable sections of the yard that allow the user to change the size of the yard (to accomodate differant size ships). Surprise, surprise. I've lost count of how many hours I've lost to these things.
The carrier has only really just been started but I am currently having to redesign the vehicle bay due to problems I've been having with the boarding ramp so It's going to drop vehicles/craft off on planets instead.
I know, right? We really need a superlaser block in vanilla.
It could possibly make the solar array seem boring in comparison though, maybe. I'm not a fortune teller though so we'll just have to wait and see. Either way I hope people enjoy it :-)
I have to admit that after all of that work that went into designing the array, whenever clang strikes the explosions that you get are well worth the effort that went into it. Sometimes it's just fun to do a quick save and hurl it into something. Someone should do a youtube series and do just that. :-)
Funny you mention that I was actually using some aspects of the design to build a mass driver cannon that does just that. Only problem is I can't make slugs for it that are designed to seperate into smaller peices before hitting the target... at least not for survival and it can't be reloaded easily. Still working on workarounds/alternatives.
GG man super rendering !!
it looks spectacular
Due to popular demand you can now find a seperate version of the array with the thruster modules included now. Check the bottom of the description for the link. :-)
This is a nice design, with merge blocks attached onto it and having a certen position on a star ship for those merge blocks to latch onto, that'd be a portable solar generator with the capability of expanding indefinately(well, probably), a great source of power and will save uranium, also it'll probably fuel an entire station if built big enough.
Many ideas, such waw, much impress.
I usually build a loader with a large amount of thrust that uses landing gear to latch onto heavy stuff like this I want to move. I had plans to eventually post a design of sorts of one of them for something just like this on my workshop, in the future though. :-) You probably could build a makeshift one pretty easy though -- just need a rough ship with a ton of thrust/gyros and the power for it with a arm for grabbing stuff and your good to go.
You havn't seen nothing yet ;-)
There is a thruster module that is optional for exactly that:
