Better Coastal Cities and Water Tiles

So ... uh, I've found a bug with the harbor bonuses. A very exploitable one.
- Play as a civ with a unique harbor (England or Phoenicia).
- Attack an enemy city with a harbor, and pillage that harbor all the way down.
- Conquer the city. You immediately get +1 food on all water tiles, even though your dockyard/cothon is still damaged.
- Repair the dockyard/cothon for an additional +1 food on all water tiles. Repair any other buildings you tore down as well. 4 food on unimproved coastal tiles, anyone?

Clearly a bug, of course. Something about that transition lets the bonus double up, as if you're getting the bonus for both the harbor that was and the cothon/dockyard that is. But only if the district is pillaged when you take the city. Probably not fixable - it looks like a game bug that comes up because you attached tile yields to a district rather than a building.

And it's all so easy to do in a naval domination game. I discovered it by pure accident.

Maybe a tad late, but try rereading that sentence @sternentier.
Sternentier Jul 8, 2024 @ 9:00pm
It says "Shipyards now provide +1 Production to all Coastal tiles, not just unimproved ones" right there in the description, so if there isn't an improvement, it won't add production.
Salmon Pie Jun 22, 2024 @ 11:30am
Hello! there seems to be a problem where the shipyard isn't adding production to all water tiles like it's supposed to. For me it's only adding production to fishing boats
DYNIA Mar 28, 2024 @ 1:07am
you can use governor to make more food in water

@dL

It looks like you can edit the WaterTiles_Gameplay.sql to change the yields.

mine is located in steamapps/workshop/content/289070/881541733 (first number is game id, second is mod id).
claudemac24hrs Nov 19, 2023 @ 9:15pm
Does it work with District Expansion: Commerce ?
dL Nov 14, 2023 @ 1:33am
Hi there! Awesome mod! Many thanks.
Could you, please, help me with editing this mod? What line i should edit to remove +1 Food to all water tiles from Harbor?
cenkhoscan Aug 17, 2023 @ 6:37am
Great mod. Changes gameplay greatly. Congratz and thanks
lazorexplosion Jul 20, 2023 @ 3:18am
Love it, great mod, but I changed the 1/1/1 adjacency bonus to just +3 gold per adjacent tile for better balance
Athravan Apr 15, 2023 @ 3:13am
While historically and logically correct, I do believe that these improvements would be too much for the game balancing. Gonba try it out, though.

I like the idea of the mod and I haven't noticed any problem with Sukritact Oceans, but yeah the bonusses are a bit big. Getting a 5/5 bonus before turn 10 when you start on a peninsula is quite a boost. Maybe tone it down to minor adjacency.
asapas Feb 17, 2023 @ 3:58am
Is it compatible with Sukritact Oceans?
STuRoK Feb 15, 2023 @ 11:04pm
Guys, it's easy to edit the mod yourself. Just download Visual Studio Code, free, and open the .sql inside the mod folder. remove the stuff you don't want, change whatever you want to change.
Klaw Feb 10, 2023 @ 11:50pm
love this mod
FleetAdmiralJakob Jan 21, 2023 @ 10:50am
Compatible with the Disctrict Expansion Commerce mod?
Ingolenuru Jan 14, 2023 @ 11:15am
I completely agree with latif. The City Center Effects are not needed at all. I would suggest you just remove that part completely. You could make it a toggle to keep it as is if you like as well.
CypRyan Dec 15, 2022 @ 10:39pm
One of my favorite mods! Never play without! I stumbled upon the mod More Maritime: Seaside Sectors . Any chance to add support for this?
latif Sep 21, 2022 @ 7:29am
Small suggestion, city center effects are OP. Like finding a mid game island city instantly gave it 6 food, production, and gold!!!

I played Dido and took full advantage of the city center effects and yeah I finally built the Amundsen–Scott with a turn 150 settler I purchased on snow hill island with three fish boats (and pantheon) and city center effect of plus 4 - my city grew so quick and I placed 5 industrial mines that I quickly was able to work since I had so much food.

I would say it would be better off just providing 2 food, gold, and production for coastal cities (assuming techs). And possibly push gold to lets say cartography and give 4 to make it more impactful as 2 gold later is much weaker compared to the earlier boosts food and production provide with sailing and shipbuilding.

Just my 2 cents.

Had a question, I know now it's more appealing to found cities by the ocean but does the AI know? Do they also found closer to the ocean?
Canes Sep 3, 2022 @ 7:26pm
Hey, got a quick question. Is this compatible with Sukritact's Oceans?
danzloblaha13 Aug 14, 2022 @ 11:45am
also would like to know how it affects AI, and if it does if AI utilises it then chosing city location .. or if it takes effect after settling down ...
Chaachi May 29, 2022 @ 12:14pm
love your mods, thanks

Hi p0kiehl,
your mod has been translated by Junky into German and the translation is now part of the German translations for Civilization VI mods mod pack.
We would be more than happy if you could refer to the language translation in your mod description.

As someone who bought the basegame a while ago and isn't getting the DLCs anytime soon. This looks pretty neat. Thanks for making this.
Gorbash Jul 1, 2021 @ 8:17am
@oldpayphone
I think it only improves once a harbourdistrict is inplace, so it will take a while....
OldPayphone Jun 14, 2021 @ 3:57pm
Mod doesn't work. I have the base game, no dlc and none of the coastal tiles have better yields
Evil fishrice from the deep sea Jun 5, 2021 @ 7:41am
Love this mod! My coastal cities are growing much faster and have significantly higher production now. Definitely makes settling coastal cities a much more appealing option.
Rabbit Jun 1, 2021 @ 11:30am
Love the mod. Just wish sea ports had a bigger production boost as by the late game the produce more food than production which is kind of a bummer late game.
Sys Apr 7, 2021 @ 12:27pm
Love this mod for the most part, have never played without it over the years. But the property "Shipyards now provide +1 Production to all Coastal tiles, not just unimproved ones" has never worked for me. I only ever play Aztec if that's the problem?
Sevayth Mar 24, 2021 @ 11:41am
@parker3741 - This is a Civ problem, not a mod problem. Has to do with the policy card that reduces build time for districs from the "Dramatic Ages" game mode. When removed it bugs out.
p0kiehl  [author] Mar 21, 2021 @ 7:37am
@parker3741 - Nope, no issue at all. This mod is working 100% correctly.
parker3741 Mar 20, 2021 @ 9:15pm
Is there an issue with this mod since the new barbarians mode expansion? This is the only mod I use that changes yields and now all of a sudden, mid-game, building districts in all cities is showing "999+ turns" to complete. Any confirmation that this mod works fine would be appreciated!
god of being bad at everything Mar 10, 2021 @ 6:45am
since they are basically just better fisheries
god of being bad at everything Mar 10, 2021 @ 6:45am
i wanna ask for you to make the effectys of the fishing dock work on the kampungs
five_x Jan 22, 2021 @ 11:06am
@Puwari the yield bonuses for the city center don't show up on the tile itself, you'll have to click on the city and check its list of yields above the city name/etc. Depending on how many coast tiles it's adjacent to you should see something like "+2 from city center" under food and gold when you have Sailing. I'm not sure why bonuses like this and Indonesia's city center faith yield don't show up on the tile, but they're definitely there.
Puwari Jan 12, 2021 @ 4:58am
mod doesnt seem to be working for me atleast i cant tell the yeilds are not showing up when i get sailing? i deleted the Mods.sqlite file and that didnt fix it
Stuchoo Dec 24, 2020 @ 7:35am
And here I was telling everyone harbours are possibly the best districts in the game make coastal cities powerhouses. Maybe its just a base game thing
CuiCui66 Dec 1, 2020 @ 7:32am
Just a tooltip remark: When Gathering storm is disabled, the shipyard tooltip tell it give production to coastal tile but in practice it does not like with vanilla game without GS.
initium Oct 30, 2020 @ 10:53pm
Just finished a campaign with this mod active amongst others. No issues; worked as described and it's a great mod. Even the stupid AI makes use of it. Great work p0kiehl
p0kiehl  [author] Oct 28, 2020 @ 5:37pm
It's definitely not this mod. This mod doesn't even affect or modify the things you're describing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
saltymillenial Oct 28, 2020 @ 5:36pm
I turned off all other mods. Issue only arises when this mod is on. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
p0kiehl  [author] Oct 28, 2020 @ 5:12pm
Whatever issue you have is not caused by this mod. I've never heard of that bug before.
saltymillenial Oct 28, 2020 @ 4:56pm
I think there may be a bug with this mod? When this mod is on, I can't get any yields from strategic resources (e.g., I'm able to build a pasture on horses but then I get no horses with which to build horsemen, same with iron).
p0kiehl  [author] Oct 28, 2020 @ 11:14am
Yep, it's fully compatible and working fine.
helgeloken Oct 28, 2020 @ 11:03am
Is this compatible with the latest patch and Civilization Expanded?
The Cake Is A Spy Jul 23, 2020 @ 10:19am
Found the issue, a general mod one I think. Steam borked the setup, and the database was bad. @Senyuno try deleting your Mods.sqlite file in C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI. It'll regenerate and should do so correctly. Fixed the issue for me.

Love this tweak! Coastal civs can become real powerhouses, once they get good at sailing (seaports). Not really OP, since it isn't a super early game boost, but settling coastal feels good again!
