Report a translation problem
I was transformed into Wonkey (the Pirate Curse monkey), and then transformed back by offering bananas to the queen. Later I died and respawned, so I don't know which of these things caused a problem for me.
I have now lost "ownership" of my towers and I can't pick them up and move them anymore (the Engineer says "Ain't my gear to move up!")
I can still replenish the ammo, so it's not a massive problem, it's just nice to be able to move them.
Never had any other issues with this mod. I read the comments about having troubles with healing, his items crashing the game, I don't know anything about those things, always worked for me.
"Could not preload undefined prefab (MODDEDSKIN_VIGNETTE_LOADER)"
Now that's something you don't see everyday, or any day! I really appreciate your well thought out in-depth review criticisms, compliments, & all here!
I don't have direct responses to each of these I'd give at current but if/when I return again to dev on this mod I'll definitely have a lot of these aspects in-mind. Thank you!
Bugs:
When on a beefalo, deploy option is replaced with murder option which causes you to accidently murder your own sentry.
Can abuse and bypass the structure limit by crafting them in a different shard and then carrying them into the caves/on the surface.
Quotes nitpicks:
Engi mentions enemy team when looking at a blue gems, but I am blue engi...
On some quotes he calls himself a mule but on a piggybag he complains saying he isn't a mule. Make up your mind engi.
And, that's about it. Thank you for this great mod, the quality is fantastic, and I hope engineer gaming will get buffed.
Here are my sentry buffs suggestions:
Damage. 10 damage per bullet isn't even amusing. It should at least be 27.5.
Refueling. I'm okay with the ammo price but can we speed this up? Instead of consuming 1 metal why not consume 5 and give me 75 ammo right away?
Alternative option. I would love to have disposable mini sentries that deal 17 damage instead of 27,5 per shot, cost 1 gear and 5 metal, have 50 ammo and low hp, drop only the gear back on being destroyed, can be carried around like Warly crockpots, and take same slots as regular sentences (you can have 4 in total, regardless of the types you used).
Sentries. Oh boy do they suck. I've finished killing all raid bosses and the only one where they were even remotely useful was the fuelweaver fight, where they kinda helped with minions. Yes, having sentries is better than not having them, but you know what's even better? Playing a better character.
The damage they do is pitiful. They loose all ammo every 6k hp or so. Unupgraded turrets for some reason aren't even refueling at the same ratio making them extra awful. They barely have any range making them loose important targets like crab king's body or bee queen. It takes forever to refuel them, to the point where you're better off just finishing the boss yourself instead. They are very quick at gaining agro, and take double damage from bosses like every other non player creature. Unupgraded they have 50 ammo for a total of 2k damage if you choose to make 4 of them as a disposable boost for a fight (this is very low). What were they balanced around? Hound waves?
Here is my portals rework suggestion:
Instead of being exit and entrance portals, they should be A and B portals. They go both ways, but A will not connect with other A, which let's you set up multiple portals without limitation of order. When you destroy a portal, you destroy both of them similarly to spy's sapper, and all the drops fall from the portal you used the tool on. I also think 10 fuel is too much for portal, considering you'll need at least 2. Make it 5.
Another issue with teleports is deconstruction tool. Here is an exsample:
I'm doing pearl quests and desided to build a 2 ways portal. Not only was this a huge resource/time waste, but I'm also in a dilemma. I no longer need teleport to hermit island but how do I destroy them? If I'll destroy portals on the island I'll have to swim back home. But if I'll destroy portals at home, 1 portal at the island will get stuck. Same with atrium but much worse, because I also need to carry my 4 sentries out of there and I cannot deconstruct them as I only get resources from the first stage back.
Teleporters.
I understand the idea of mechanics staying true to the tf2 rules, and I love it. But this is an exception. It makes no sence in tf2 to have teleports that go both ways, as you have no buisness comming back to spawn. It is not the case here. In order to have a both ways teleport (which is something you'll always want) you'll have to craft an exit, go somewhere, craft at entrance and an exit, teleport back, craft at entrance. 40 nightmare fuel, by the way.
There were so many instances in the run I've done as engi where I would really like to make a teleporter, but then realized I'd rather just use beefalo. It's simply faster.
And either way you can only craft 2 teleports if you want them to go both ways.
Scrap metal. Why flint? Why not gold? Gold is an actual metal, and it can be mass produced in multiple ways. Ruins rush, graveyard raid, bunnymen puffs gathering, eel fishing, or simple meat hunt. Flint you grab on the floor, or mine some rocks. That's it.
Dispencer. I only have 1 issue with this structure. Picking up junk off the floor is really annoying. The best solution I can suggest is to give engi another perk, that lets him repair W.O.B.O.T with his wrench and some scrap metal.
Carrying structures. The structures are heavy objects and I'm okay with that. But for the sake of life quality, and because it fits his character, I think engi should be able to carry heavy objects at a faster rate. Not like Wolfgang, but still faster than normal characters.
Despite being incredibly well made, Engineer is actually a pretty terrible character, at least with default settings, which are the only settings I ever use on charcater mods, to play as the devs see fit.
So, what's wrong with engineer? Everything.
1. Wrench. Despite being a powerful weapon in tf2, it deals miserable shovel damage here. Or rather it would, if Engi didn't had a negative multiplayer, making the damage equivalent to Lucy (comedically awful). I know that his main downside is that he is bad at hand combat, but considering that an axe deals more damage and costs 1 flint, I think wrench should have 34 damage (27.5 for engi). And yes, I know it's a tool.
2. Hard hat. Isn't it identical to the Woodie one? Either way, Engi braggs about his helmet but it's actually worse than football hat in every way. I think it should at the very least be identical in stats to wigfrid's hat. Since I'm playing modded charcater I'd rather use his exclusive armor.
This is the 4th character mod I've tried and I gotta say, the amount of effort that went into making engineer is simply incredible. Everything is so well crafted it almost feels like this is an official character. The skins designs are great, the art is well done, and the character quotes are wonderfully written. Engineer feels like he really belongs here, he has a great personality, the stuff he says has a healthy dose of references, but it's not all about them. My favorite quotes from the ones I've seen are the Maxwell statue one, where he compares him with spy in a charismatic way, and the glass axe one, which is a good exsample of Engi being well written, as he dosen't make a tf2 reference, nor does he says something bland and basic. He simply makes a remark.
The only visual issue I have is the rose skin. I love the eyes revealed, but the skin has disgusting plant matter sticking out of goggles. I wish there was similar skin without weird stuff.
