Fun game. I love killing turrets.
airpig1 Jun 29, 2015 @ 4:38pm
I played Doom when Doom wasn't cool. This was cool!
Petutski Nov 4, 2014 @ 9:14am
Very interesting. Lots of turrets and passages. I have never played doom so it is hard to comopare.

Awesome test chamber :) Could you try mine? http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=180312984

Just replayed the whole level. All enemies, all secrets!

This is so cool!
ProfDave3d Jul 26, 2013 @ 5:09pm
That was awesome!

I'm so used to thinking Portal instead of thinking Doom that I kept running up to doors, standing there, and wondering why they didn't open! :-)

Did you recreate all the secret rooms from Doom E1M1? I found a couple, but I could have sworn there was something where you push a button on each of two pillars, and something else triggered by a TV monitor. (I'm probably splicing together memories from Doom, Doom II, and Quake here!)

Anyway, thanks for the cool level. Thumbs up!
kimist108 Apr 20, 2013 @ 7:26pm
OMG, I know I am dating myself, but DOOM was wonderful I got addicted to it. Every time I saw a garbage can, my brain said BLAST IT. And every time I saw an exit sign I mentally clicked on it. Thanks for the memory!

Playing this map doesn't really feel like Portal to me. It's kinda tricky to figure out exactly which surfaces are portalable and which aren't. However I have a gripe much, much larger than that: WHY CAN'T I TURN OFF THE MUSIC WITHOUT TURNING OFF THE REST OF THE GAME SOUNDS??!!??
cgngreenbadass007 Sep 29, 2012 @ 1:53pm
Jesus this one is hard as hell good for nostalgia
LeChuck Sep 18, 2012 @ 3:49pm
@Steak and Chips just click the subscribe button then go in portal 2 and play the custom map
RGB Sep 17, 2012 @ 4:54am
How do I download?
mood3rd Sep 10, 2012 @ 3:31pm
thankyou for your reply.
the deadline for the entries is today.
so I missed the boat.
thankyou anyway, as it's a good way to have people see your work.
with quickplay, if your not already established as a good map maker,
people won't see your maps or the odds against them browsing your way.
carl.kenner  [author] Sep 9, 2012 @ 12:56pm
Turrets can't kill other turrets unfortunately, so some of the old Doom strategies won't work. :-)

The last secret room in this level is very hard, I never found it in the original Doom game. It's in the zigzag toxic slime room. You can watch the videos above if you can't find it.

You should enter this turret map making contest for the Portal2Cast show:

great map
as they are all the same enermy, I can't get away with, going in a room, running around in circles, leaving & waiting for all but 1 enermy to be killed .
then finishing it off.
1 secret room missed
1 turret missed, but went back & killed it.
score updated-(good touch)
got 2 cubes & 1 safety sphere.
when are you doing doom 3 ?
ps they are re-releasing doom 3 with some extra content.
longest game I ever played.
I did all difficulty levels, nightmare level was save, save, save.
was favotite game.
if you like killing turrets, try my turret series:
"simple turret problem"

@Krank : Wow. You seems to be a really, really good speed runner ^^
If you are interested, I would suggest you to try some maps in my Skill collection , and maybe record some speedruns if you like them ;)
KranK Sep 6, 2012 @ 5:06am
Thanks a lot. I really liked the map and I'm enjoying the other maps you made as well. A timer would be great but its not very hard to add a timer to the video so either way. I like the delay you added though because it gives you a second to look at the secrets/kills screen... I did complete the map with all kills and all secrets as well :)
carl.kenner  [author] Sep 6, 2012 @ 4:55am
That was awesome Krank! You are brilliant. I added your video above. Now I feel bad about the delay I put in after you press the button. I also feel like I should have counted the time, not just the kills, like the real DooM does.
KranK Sep 6, 2012 @ 2:48am
Great map! Done in 11.84 seconds plus a 0 portals run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhawRVjABco
Geneosis Aug 17, 2012 @ 3:04pm
Didn't play DooM, but some freind of me is a huge fan so I see how it looks ;)
carl.kenner  [author] Aug 17, 2012 @ 2:59pm
The second level has some gel puzzles at the end, and requires more planning and thinking to get past turrets. Anyway, I'm making a coop version of this map now, since the original doom invented it.
Did you paly the original DooM game? Or are you too young?
Geneosis Aug 17, 2012 @ 1:14pm
Well that was fun to play in this strange map pack... Only ninja-turret-kill, but nice anyway :p
D@nil.B Aug 12, 2012 @ 11:27am
Tio Macaco que me indicou esse "mod", espero que seja bom mesmo... :P
LucasGodzilla Jul 5, 2012 @ 10:00am
Yeah I found out about the armor cube that protects it you but thanks for the tip anyway
carl.kenner  [author] Jul 5, 2012 @ 1:57am
Yeah, sorry about that. Level 2 has a difficulty setting at the start where you can choose the difficulty, but it was a lot of work to add that, so I haven't done it for level 1 yet.

The easier way to play this level is to portal out the window at the start, get the Companion Cube by Flinging, then go through the tunnel or portal in the window onto the ceiling or wall above the raised platform in the zig-zag slime room where the two defective turrets are. Push them off, then portal down behind all the turrets. Put the companion cube down in front of the door as a shield to hide behind, then open the door, and put portals under all the turrets in the final room, then go out the exit.

Don't forget.. the cubes replace armour, so use them like armour. You can duck behind them and not get killed.
LucasGodzilla Jul 4, 2012 @ 1:11pm
It's too hard
$p¥ßørg Jul 2, 2012 @ 12:14pm
Brings back the memories this map, cool :)

Kyle07 Jul 1, 2012 @ 11:27am
Thank you, for your quick response.
carl.kenner  [author] Jul 1, 2012 @ 10:02am
This is from the free shareware episode 1. The game code is open source. So there shouldn't be any problem. There's nothing in the steam workshop agreement about it. I could add a link to buying Doom on steam, if people are really worried about that.
Kyle07 Jul 1, 2012 @ 7:57am
Is it legal to make a map like this? I know that DOOM is under the GPL license, but is it really allowed to release something like that for the steam workshop?
What would happen if it isn't allowed, would valve only delete the map or banning the account?

Pls answer.
satchmo Jun 29, 2012 @ 9:49pm
What a lovely idea. I can't play Doom on my Windows 7 PC anymore, but this map allows me to relive the glory days of my youth.

Thank you very much.
carl.kenner  [author] Jun 27, 2012 @ 6:49pm
I updated my doom e1m2 map! Now you can choose your difficulty level! Everything from Can I Play Daddy up to Nightmare (with respawning turrets). So there is something to suit every kind of player, from the casual, to the puzzle-solver, to the turret fighter, to the hard-core ninja. If you didn't like it before, try it again now!

carl.kenner  [author] Jun 25, 2012 @ 7:20am
I'm doing DooM II MAP31 next... since it's based on the wolfenstein map I already did (but much cooler). And I'm addin a new weapon for it... the BFPG 9000.
Quake Jun 25, 2012 @ 6:20am
Love the doom missions (haven't played the wolfenstein ones yet), keep them comming

EPIC! Can't wait for your new maps :D
carl.kenner  [author] Jun 17, 2012 @ 5:09pm
Almost finished Wolfenstein. And the best part is, my program can mostly convert Wolfenstein levels automatically. So I just converted a random level that I didn't remember, and played it myself, not knowing where the secrets or enemies were. :-)
Melonie Cardiff Jun 15, 2012 @ 3:13pm
Good luck with the new map!
I personally think that if you're adding some puzzles in the map, you definitely need to include gels. :>
carl.kenner  [author] Jun 15, 2012 @ 1:00pm
For Wolfenstein, I'm trying to do the wells and the water on the floor, and deciding whether to include gels or not. I still need to do the exit elevator, the kill and secret counts, the sides of doors, the cubes, and the music. The lighting might need some work too. I made a program to automate most of the conversion, so I can just pass it an original Wolfenstein 3D level and it will convert it to a portal 2 map, with just a few things to edit manually. So once I get the first one done, I could make any other Wolfenstein map quickly (or Blake Stone, Catacombs 3D, Corridor 7, Operation Body Count, or Noah's Ark).
Melonie Cardiff Jun 14, 2012 @ 3:45pm
What's your progress on Wolfenstein 3D? :>
carl.kenner  [author] Jun 14, 2012 @ 12:59pm
I just noticed this map has 666 ratings. How very DooM-like. :-) Thanks everyone.

This is like Android Hell all over again, except this time you're actually in Hell.
carl.kenner  [author] Jun 6, 2012 @ 11:49am
I'm working on making Wolfenstein 3D, but it might take a while. I've also got some other ideas.
