The tone rows on Cruel! Awesome! A real use for atonal serialist composition!

Nice module for hardcore players, can get a tiny bit overboard at times. The cruel piano module in particular can be quite excessive; the complexity of transposing down a retrograde inverse can be absurd for non-pianists. The answer note sequences are a bit long as well, which lengthens the wasted time when the expert dictates the answer – I would consider shortening the solution prime sequences to about 4 or 5 notes, since the difficulty would be roughly unchanged and the punishment for getting it wrong would be the same, with the only difference being that the time cost of the module would be diminished.

@Wowerful The keyboard on the module actually corresponds to the correct key notes on an actual piano. The manual page includes a diagram of the portion on the piano that is on the module, labelled with the correct letters/notes, for those who don't know the keys already.

How do you know what note you are pressing?

I made a Russian translation [drive.google.com] of the manual.

This has been rebuilt for the new version of KTaNE coming up. If you're having problems at time of this message being posted, either switch to the current Public Beta on Steam, or wait for the new version to drop.

is there a version without the stupid cruel piano keys?
Ellie Jul 23, 2017 @ 11:42am
[TRADUCTION FRANCAISE] I did a French translation of the Manual [Guigui575.github.io] for my players. Feel free to check it.

I like playing the piano, but not gonna like to play if it can cause an explosion to the face - -

I might not get it, music isn't my forte

Why's there a fermatta where it makes more sense to put a natural symbol

Two music geeks here. One of us is a published composer of organ, choral, and instrumental music, we both read music, and I've written a bit myself.

This mod was a must have for us. Can't wait to see it pop up, and we have cruelty set to 0.5, so the results should be.... interesting.

Nice work!

a bit confusing at first, but overall a nice idea and worth adding to the game one the nomal modules are delepted.
Wobak Nov 13, 2016 @ 11:32am
Hi,

I've added you on steam, I'm trying to contact you to translate the manuals. Could you accept my invitation please ? :)
FoalanLupis Oct 15, 2016 @ 1:22pm
I can't seem to figure out the source for the first two. I'm sure I've heard them before, but I can't place it. What are they?
DImeVeck Oct 12, 2016 @ 7:41pm
Q. "Serial number contains a 3,7 or 8"
Does it means that it contains "3,7 / 3,8"? or "3,7 / 8"?
dan_oxford80 Sep 20, 2016 @ 12:16pm

@Onyxite Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day possibly?
Onyxite Sep 11, 2016 @ 9:37am
Anyone know ( or will the author give a hint :) ) what the 7th melody is (GGCGGCGC)? It seems like it should be obvious, but I've figured out all the melody sources except for that one.

Normal:
Great from a mechanical standpoint, ties in quite well with the overall "feel" of native modules. The only criticism I have is why would there be piano keys on a bomb?
Complexity: moderate
Time Requirement: moderate
Rating: 4/5

Cruel:
More symbols, very interesting take on which note sequence to use. But the "I" transformation is just way too hard for non-musicians imo.
Complexity: high (very high if you happen to "I")
Time Requirement: moderate
Rating: 4/5

Oh, and @Pugh as well.
Bashly  [author] Aug 17, 2016 @ 5:49am
@p0rtald0ctor, I've updated the online manuals now with monochromatic SVG files, just need to update the bundles with new PDF prints, that will happen later today hopefully.
thaboedhist Aug 16, 2016 @ 1:23pm
cool module...
The Sojourner Aug 15, 2016 @ 10:04am
Another cool module. As usual confusing at first (especially when not paying full attention to the manual's instructions), but overall it's of (more or less) a moderate difficulty.

Question: when will the manuals for both this module and the Semaphore module be updated to be completely 100% black and white?
blake Aug 14, 2016 @ 12:29pm
awesome
Bashly  [author] Aug 13, 2016 @ 6:27am
I believe the latest version *should* be in US Letter size now, but I might be wrong!
Mock Army Aug 13, 2016 @ 5:06am
The OCD people might also notice that the pdf pages are A4 sized or at least something different than US Letter size. I think that's pretty funny though.
Bashly  [author] Aug 12, 2016 @ 11:08am
@Pugh, yeah, using the screenshot in the manual is inconsistent, certainly. When I next get time to look at this, I'll try and update all my manuals with appropriate looking diagrams.
aub Aug 12, 2016 @ 10:46am
I notice that for all of your modules, you used actual screenshots of the modules instead of diagrams. This is inconsistent with the manual. Also, the phrasing "a ____ module will present" is a bit awkward.

Other than that, great work!
Bashly  [author] Aug 11, 2016 @ 5:12pm
Hi Lord Cio. There should be a PDF in your steamapps/workshop/content/341800/720356976/Manual/Modules folder. Failing that, if you're on Windows, it should also be in the generated PDF manuals that you can find at %appdata%/../LocalLow/Steel Crate Games/Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes/Manual .
Lord Cio Aug 11, 2016 @ 5:09pm
Hey, I can't find the pdf in the game's files
