played a vanilla escape malden with a few of my friends and starting the mission gave us the error that the can used for towing couldn't be found.

Is this obsolete if you have ACE? Since ACE added ropes and stuff, supposedly for towing, but nobody uses them because we've used this for so long.

But I recently broke my server, so I have to start over, and I need to know if I need to reinstall this or not.

FEATURE REQUEST: add a very very short rope to have an approximation to towing something without rope if that makes sense, like a trailer

Greetings to the Arma 3 community.

I have done some tests and found out that parking brakes were really blocking towing of some vehicles. So, the 2.08 Arma 3 update seems to be very fruitful for vehicle towing.

I tried to update this "Advanced Towing" script but found out that it is too complicated for me.
It was much easier for me to write my own implementation of the script than change this one.

So, I have released a demo version 0.1 of my script for public tests.
It is called "Vehicle Towing Script". You can check it at the following link.

I would like to add that a recent Arma 3 update to version 2.08 has introduced an interesting function for realistic towing. It is called "disableBrakes".

According to the wiki page, https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/disableBrakes , it "Disables autobrake, which is engaged when vehicle is stationary and stops wheels from rotating freely when vehicle is pushed".

Seems that BIS realized that automatic brakes were blocking the towing previously and fixed that bug.

Yesterday, a new function has been added to the Arma's API, it is called 'setTowParent'.

It allows creating a realistic towing !
At last Arma developpers have heard our thoughts and made the game engine better.

Description:
Allows towedVehicle to be towed by towingVehicle. This loosens the vehicle brakes of the towedVehicle and turned its steering wheels toward the towingVehicle. Supposed to be used together with a rope connecting both vehicles.

Please, add this function into your add-on.

I have been waiting for this feature since the first Arma (Armed Assault it was called).

that was your problem "if you added this after saving a mission"

adding mods after saving a SP or MP mission wont init the mods because they weren't present during the initial (first) save.

It's appears to be working now. I had to unsubscribe to all mods and re subscribe to them and then restart the SP Missions from the beginning.

I only have one other Mod active (CBA_A3) and I don't think it removes anything. The installation works just fine; it just does not work in game as intended.

@Tech2014 it should work after subscribing to it, if you added this after saving a mission or have any mod that removes actions from vehicles then that may be you issue.

I tried to follow all instructions to the best of my ability but still was not able to get this mod to work. I have uninstalled it and un-subscribed from your mod until an install for idiots can be created.

Hey people...the "SA_TOW_IN_EXILE_SAFEZONE_ENABLED = true;" definition...you say pop it in the init.sqf....do you mean the fn_advancetowingInit.sqf? And, is it a straightforward define at the top of the script? Coz we're having a bit of difficulty getting it working.

Ah, yes

Because I have the ability to edit how many vehicles can be towed, this obviously must mean that if I can edit it further than realism will allow, the mod is terrible.

@Basil - The Default Limits on "Vehicle Chains" is 2 vehicles...And Torque and Size-class of the vehicles being towed is considered. If you choose to raise the limits in the config file that's on you.

Hello firstly great work you#ve done with all your mods!
I'm running a linux server running a few other mods alongside this one hopefully.
When I start the server it crashes like 20 seconds into the boot saying that some file from this mod can't be opened I think it was located here SA_AdvanceTowing folder/functions.

The files of the mods have the right user owning them and the right permissions so I have no clue on how I can fix this.

So I lifted a truck and released the ropes but it thought I was towing the truck not sling loading it. I am using both mods currently.

@Ryu We found that another mod we had, "Walkable Moving Objects," was what was causing the random asset exploding. Since we disabled that not only can we tow whatever we want (two vehicles at a time even) but all the other random explosions when loading supplies, using ramps, and etc has ceased. Hope this helps.

I get that too, probably just due to the fact that this mod hasn't been updated in years. The only place I could think of is something to do with how the vehicle is moved? There might be an issue where it freaks out judging height and spawns it too high or in the ground causing the explosion.

Issue when trying to run on Linux dedicated server:

ErrorMessage: Cannot open file '/home/steam/arma3/arma3master/@J\addons\sa_advancedtowing'
Application terminated intentionally

Note that Linux, unlike Windows, uses case sensitivity in its filesystem. So 'SA_AdvancedTowing.pbo' is not the same as 'sa_advancedtowing.pbo'. Might be the reason behind this error.

Goma, I had the same happen to me, and advanced slinging disables my rotors...
Such amazing mods but they seem to be broken.
