did you install the potentials mod by any chance?
FalcFalcFalc Sep 1, 2018 @ 9:20am
not working for me :(
well, at first it worked, but then it stopped
Dare Sep 26, 2017 @ 3:57am
Dude this mod has been abandoned by the author more than 1.5 years ago, it uses outdated files which could break your playthrough and if you'd check the comment below your first one there is a replacement.

I can confirm that the "Respec" button works once you have activated it in the ini files. If you're wondering how to do this, then read the Bugs and Problems post. This gives you a reliable work-around on the bug where your soldiers are automatically given an AWC perk.

Of course using this button means you can respec your soldiers AWC perk at will. Up to the player to have the descipline to pick a perk once and stick with it ;)

@tyblaidd - Thanks for the mod. It's been something I've wanted for sometime. I have a repeating bug to flag. I don't have LW2 or any mod based on it, or WotC. I do have Shens last gift and Alien hunters DLC. The only mod I run that may create a conflict is Hidden Potential.

This mod seems to work at the start of a game but at some point about mid game I get the same repeat issue - The AWC perk autopopulates on the soldier without the perk choice screen showing.

I still get the double screen for a soldier perk choice on occassions. Normally happens when scrolling through soldiers. Mentioning as it's a known bug.

Looking forward to an update and bug fix as I think this mod makes a difference and I enjoy the game more for it. Good luck

For everybody who wants a mod like this, I wrote this mod anew. You can find it under
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=884714560 or "A Better AWC".

I would love for this to actually work - I'm sick of old cahracters that are dependant on their AWC perks choices turning out differently because you cant change the selection. However this mod is so buggy it almost never works. If there is any way to get existing characters to change which AWC perks they have, let me know - but I'm sick of trying to get this mod to do what it was intended for.
Urizen Feb 17, 2017 @ 8:29am
This mod functions erratically. A fix/update would be appreciated.
Primus Feb 16, 2017 @ 4:33am
this is still not lw2 compatible right?
Dude Feb 7, 2017 @ 1:25am
How do I respec awc using this?
BlueRaja Jan 29, 2017 @ 3:05am
This mod fills my debug logs with errors. It's a shame it's so broken, because it's a nice idea.
kakita tatsumaru Jan 18, 2017 @ 8:45am
I tried it, and it worked, but it doesn't seems compatible with xbox 360 controller, only worked with mouse control.
n30a515 Jan 18, 2017 @ 3:31am
managed to get lwpp and this one working for the past few days. Tried out a few things and the following worked: unsubscribe both, subcribe to this one first, then lwpp. Retrained a few soldiers in the current game and the AWC respec comes up consistently. YMMV, especially if you have other conflicts from other mods. PS: I use the respec button as well. That works pretty well in this case.
techstepman Jan 15, 2017 @ 5:56am
this mod is going bersek doing whatever it wants...worked only for the first soldier of their class after that its like skynet trying to take over. i dont have any mod that changes soldier skills and stuff.
carstenstrieder Jan 13, 2017 @ 8:57pm
Since it is now definitely an incompatibility problem between LW_PerkPack and this one here, is the possibility of a fix?
Patience Jan 13, 2017 @ 4:18am
It only works on 1 out of 5 soldiers :(
Luke Danger Jan 12, 2017 @ 2:14pm
I got this to work for one soldier, but for all subsequent soldiers it just did it automatically without even giving me a popup saying that they got their AWC perk. Any idea what that is?
Spaceinvader122 Jan 10, 2017 @ 9:45am
Hi. Sorry but I can't get this mod to work at all. I have AWC built and one of my soldiers already got a AWC perk but I didn't choose it for them they just got it after leveling. I also can't find the ini file on my computer. I've double checked and the mod is active in the Xcom2 mods active ini. Help?
Patience Jan 9, 2017 @ 12:36pm
I spent about an hour trying to figure out how to edit extra perk, thank you.
sherder Dec 29, 2016 @ 5:43pm
Did you build the AWC? AWC needs to be built before mod is active.
Undying is F U N Dec 25, 2016 @ 9:04pm
I made the respec button set to true in the ini, but it still is not available in the game barracks menu for soldier abilities. I have LW perk pack and shadow ops alongside A Better Advent, are those the reasons why I can't choose my awc perks?
MaCC165 Dec 19, 2016 @ 12:15am
;But When False will limit selection to
;A Random Choice Of AWC Perks
ENABLE_COMPLETE_SELECTION_AWC_CHOICE = false; default = true

;when COMPLETE_SELECTION = false, this will enable the limiting of
;the number of options to a fixed value,
;if this is false the number is random on a 50% chance per item
;with a forced minimum of 4 options to select from (variable selection)
ENABLE_LIMITED_RANDOM_SELECTION_AWC_CHOICE = true;default = false

;the fixed limited value for ENABLE_LIMITED_RANDOM
;edit this to change the forced number of AWC perk_choices
;per selection
LIMITED_RANDOM_SELECTION_COUNT = 7;default = 3;

;Debug Mode Mainly But Change If It Suits You
;Force Allow AWC Choices even if you lack the rank for it
;Does however require AWC to have been built
ENABLE_INSTANT_AWC = true; default = false
MaCC165 Dec 19, 2016 @ 12:14am
i had the same problem klondike, u have to put the things on in the ini, then it works.
And so i know vanilla awc gives just one perk extra, and with "commanders choice" u can get 2 if u choose another class. What all write is a bug.
RainingMetal Dec 18, 2016 @ 2:42pm
I think by default the AWC can allow two or even three hidden abilities given at random to a soldier. For this one, is it just limited to one hidden ability of your choice, and you don't even have to rank up?
Ouroboros Dec 18, 2016 @ 2:35pm
huh, intereting. I stopped playing for a while and when I reinstalled it stopped working. I'll make sure the mod loaded correctly, and I can try to unsub and then resub too.
I love this mod! TYVM!
This worked for me with the LW perk pack. It worked from the squad lineup screen as they left the plane, and also from the soldier roster in the armory.

The UI is a little hard to use when you are leveling up while walking off the plane. Hovering the mouse over some perks also caused the mouse to be over what is normally behind it. But that might have been because I had an expanded squad size mod that was altering the UI of that sqaud lineup screen.
JackCarver Dec 13, 2016 @ 8:00am
Perks are choose able at after missions were they walk off the troop transport just choose the hidden perk there the back out to the armory for LW level perks
Farakill Dec 9, 2016 @ 3:48pm
Also doesn't work for me with LW Perk pack. Hope there's a fix coming.
PhanLot Dec 7, 2016 @ 12:16am
Chooseable AWC Perks and Show All Perks cna't work on the same time .
Any solution?
Price Dec 4, 2016 @ 5:05pm
So no long war :(
Helrato Nov 27, 2016 @ 6:24pm
for those who are missing the repec button, you'll need to enable it first. you can find the ini file at: \Steam\SteamApps\workshop\content\xxx\xxx\Config - look for XComChooseableAWC.ini. find ENABLE_RESPEC_AWC_PERK_BUTTON and set both options to true.
Phnx Nov 22, 2016 @ 2:57am
You can add any AWC perk and remove all of them at once via console commands with this mod: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=693790751

Any plans on making this mod having better compatibility with Long War Perk Pack?
Pip Oct 16, 2016 @ 11:57am
it works sometimes! better to able to choose some troops AWCP then none.
Beast Oct 11, 2016 @ 6:15am
This mode doesn't work anymore...
minich Oct 7, 2016 @ 10:22am
Does this mod even work anymore? I used it some time back before all the DLC. Playing again and it's not letting me choose perks. Also, there's no button to respec the perk either (yes, I made sure it was on in the .ini file)
karlo Oct 2, 2016 @ 3:17pm
There is a simple Workaround:
-Start Game with Disabled "LW Perk Pack"
-Respec Button is now availible (Ignor the faulty Soldier Characteristics)
-Take your selection
-Save Game!
-Exit Game
-Start Game again and Re-Enable "LW Perk Pack"
-Load the last Savegame and have Fun ;-)

Operation is annoying, but it Works!
LiberTea Oct 2, 2016 @ 2:01am
Has anyone managed to get this to work with the LW Perk pack?.

Works perfectly without the Perk pack, however with it there is no respec button AND I can't chose the awc perks AND they arent retroactive.
FERnKmaster Sep 29, 2016 @ 11:56am
Found an interesting possible workaround for people who can't find the respec button but don't have the skill or luxury of messing with settings or ini. I just waited until all of my best soldiers hit Colonel, about three and a half squads worth, then built the AWC. Then, when I selected the Soldier Ability tab in the character's status menu in the Armory, it gave me the option to choose a perk, and only once. I did encounter something similar to what LightenendDark mentioned but that was a while back and I don't know if it can still happen. Obviously, the trade-off to this solution is that you have to put off the AWC until you get plenty of Colonels, so unless you like save-scumming or the RNGs love you, you should probably go get a mod that reduces recovery time. Hope this helps...
Cahos Rahne Veloza Sep 9, 2016 @ 12:33am
@LightenendDark:

Didn't you read the full description of the mod above?

To quote the section under known bugs:

"> Occasionly the Perk Choice Screen will appear twice (this should be fixed?) -> if this happens select the same perk and no issues should arise "

Therefore, the author is aware of the issue but has had no luck in rectifying it.

TL;DR definitely has its disadvantages if you ask me, so don't be a lazy fool and read every detail about the mods you intend to use BEFORE making a complaint.
LightenedDark Sep 8, 2016 @ 11:51pm
This mod is a great way to cut through the RNG BS of vanilla. I don't care about the respect button so it does what it says on the tin.

However, knowing that the mod author has ignored this for 5 months, I have an interesting bug that no one else has mentioned. Every time I look at a soldier, it gives me the popup box again. This allows me to pick duplicate abilities, or just plain all the perks.

For instance I gave one of my colonels 3 AWC perks now that I finally built it as my last building. It's not a huge problem. It's actually kind of cool. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
Twelve Cats Sep 7, 2016 @ 2:04pm
Well, I feel silly. Lots of troubleshooting and failures, I realise what I didn't do. Because of (`・ω・´) 's comment, I didn't disable the LW Perk Pack. Did that as a last measure before I'd give up, and whaddya know, it shows up first time.
Twelve Cats Sep 7, 2016 @ 8:25am
@cahos Rahne Veloza,

I've switched to windowed and different resolutions. For the button's position, I used the one quoted in bugs and problems, but still couldn't find it.

AWC is built and ready, half my force already has a hidden perk, but I wasn't able to choose it for them.
I've not seen it on the after combat screen, but granted, I don't usually look too hard, I hadn't realised it shows up there.
I've tried retraining them via the AWC, but they keep their perk still.
Cahos Rahne Veloza Sep 7, 2016 @ 7:14am
@Cat-tain Ellie:

Are you playing in fullscreen mode perhaps? If so, you'll need to edit the respec button's position in the .ini file as a workaround for this.

Also to use the respec button you'll need to have built the AWC first as well. And the button is accessible from the "after combat" screen (when your squad returns from a mission) and/or at the armory when you look at your soldiers' ability screen.
Twelve Cats Sep 7, 2016 @ 7:00am
Mine's seemingly not working, either. I've not been able to select the perks when they are unlocked, nor can I find the respec button, even after I edited the ini. Are there any other mods known to conflict with it or something?
Farakill Sep 4, 2016 @ 6:33pm
still not working for me. I have done two runs, 1 with perk pack, 1 with perk pack and toolbox
Mighty_Rathalos Sep 4, 2016 @ 6:02am
after a bit of testing I found a way to make the button appear as everything here did not, when respecc a soldier (or when you use teh promotion after a mission) you will see the regular abilities windows with only two skills for selection, in that menu the button is where it used to be.
Cahos Rahne Veloza Sep 2, 2016 @ 3:38am
@johny-potato:

Find and edit the mod's .ini file to activate the respec button.

If you don't know how to even do that, then you're hopeless :P

Protip:

The method is explanied numerous times in this comments section you just need to read up on it.
I'm a train. What about choo? Sep 1, 2016 @ 5:16am
so can anyone explain how this is meant to work. I got this mod in the hope of changing the AWC my sniper got. Is there a way to do it cos people keep mentioning a respec button and i can't see anything.
BibleThump Aug 28, 2016 @ 2:54am
It works with LW perk pack. Just activate the respec button and retrain your soldier. 100% successful
Summanus Aug 22, 2016 @ 12:49am
Yeah, thats what I did in the end - used the respec button. Instructions are in the Bugs and Problems thread above.
