I believe it's based off an older mod named The Dark Continent, which in turn was based off of the Years of Rice and Salt.

What I'm focused on testing right now:
- Editing the modernize decisions -- require 15 ADM/DIP/MIL Tech, and now 200 total Development, might be too much development, I'll have to see.
- Giving certain countries Expansion/Exploration ideas.

Can I suggest the following

- KEEP THE CURRENT VERSION (i.e. 1.1 at the moment) PINNED AT THE TOP so people can see if there's been changes just looking here.

- Development on provinces depopulated by plague seems to remain at its preplague levels. Realistically, this would decay away - one way to handle it might be to deem everything as virgin (1/1/1) provinces, and then have popup events as you colonize previously developed areas giving small bonuses depending on their original score (e.g. "You manage to recover a harbor left by the Ferengi" or "You discover a wheatfield growing wild")

- Bug with colonized provinces not having trade goods determined.

Love the mod, I've decided to play one of the natives and I haven't tested this yet, but in order to reform the government, of a native council, one requirement is to border the core of a western nation. There are no longer any western nations though at the moment, and even then it shouldn't be necessary in this universe. Will modernizing fix this or has this not been accounted for yet?

Hello, Years of Rice and Salt

Seriously, anyone who digs this idea needs to check out The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson. It's a narrative of several successive lifetimes of a group of individuals who are consistently connected from lifetime to lifetime, spanning the years from the Fall of Kaffa and rise of the Black Death through the 20th Century. It proposes that there was a mutation in the bubonic plague that made it particularly deadly for over 99% of Europeans while being much less destructive to the rest of the world.

what about killing china and india, historically the plague was MUCH worst in china and india than in europe, its just that we don't focus on them.

Hey everyone! I'm sorry for the few days of silence, this week has been a doozy. However, I'm working on a quick fix for the most pressing problem, in my opinion: westernizing. Because Western countries don't exist, I'm switching things up and adding a decision that allows you to modernize after certain conditions are met. This is a small bandaid, mind you, as I'm wanting to make modernization based on events over the course of a decade or so. After this bandaid update, I will add in Colonial Regions for the Silent Continent. Then afterwards I'm going to focus on survivor states. Thanks for playing! :D

@Toby. Think of colonizing the Americas, I don't think it would be as fun without moderately sized tribes of people living there. Think of survivor nations in game as the nations of the North American tech group.

Really neat idea. I'd like to see what happens when you add the nomadic nations. I'd probably suggest just taking some of the larger/more unique Euro nations and just condencing them down to a few provinces :)

there should be a survivur one province nation for each country so that the entire contenet can be reformed or at least the gratest empires dont die before there time

Have malus modifiers to affect the border countries where the plague might still be spreading and bonus modifiers to the survivors to let them rebuild europe from their resistance

This looks pretty fucking sweet.

Is Iceland dead? I feel like they would be pretty safe from a plauge on the continent. Maybe make them into a Norse religion minor?

If/when you add european survivor nomad maybe add one or more Sami Tribes. They would be much less likely to get screwed over by the colapse of civilization.

Lastly, can the player "Unify islam"? I feel like if would be pretty simple to do if all you had to do was a bit of colonizing.

just to know before I play, the way it is now it is completely impossible for anyone to westernize right? Meaning that , for example, the aztecs and incas wont be able to build ships/change the tech

Paradox hasn't removed the download link, I had to move it to a Paradox thread, which is linked in the Manual Download page. You need a paradox account in order to get into the thread. It's very aggravating, but I can understand why they have to do it that way.

Thank you guys so much for the imput, I'm definitely taking it to heart when I work on the countries that survive! I've been really busy this weekend, but now I have plenty of time to work on this next update that touches up the dead areas. Also I will be adding a quick little tie-over decision that will allow non-western countries to get the western tech group (renamed "modern tech group" in the localizatipn files) that eill hold until I do a more nuanced event chain.

I agree with drewsala10, Poland was notorious for its plague-resistance and should remain to some extent. And can you keep Riga there for the lolz?
