Loading Progress

@Oozy: Wasn't my goal on the outset, but this mod seems to help people with more than just seeing mod loading progress, so that's neat!
Oozy 5 hours ago
I have 596 active mods btw so this saved my ass hahahaha
Oozy 5 hours ago
I don't know how this mod did it but after installing this it fixed my modlist, I was stuck at the initializing screen on start up but with this installed it actually boots the game up and fixed some of the bugs. So idk if this mod was the reason for the fix but tysm :prayer:
ilyvion  [author] 8 hours ago
Also, I'm already aware that I accidentally made showing it on top the default and didn't include translation text for the new setting; fix is preparing for release as I type this. 😅
ilyvion  [author] 9 hours ago
Alright, version with progress placement setting released!
ilyvion  [author] 10 hours ago
I could probably add a setting for progress bar placement, sure. That's not a huge endeavor.
Could it be possible to adjust the position of the progress bar, such as at the top or bottom, to better appreciate the background?
WJSabey 15 hours ago
Or edit the save, which is stored as plain text. Just be careful if you do that not to change anything else or you might break something.
ilyvion  [author] 18 hours ago
I figured out the problem. Long story short, RimWorld uses the first mod that has translations in it to set up its language metadata, and when that's us instead of RimWorld (Core), all hell breaks loose. So I added a fix to skip our mod as a potential candidate for language metadata during startup, which seems to have fixed the problem. A new release is building as I'm typing this and will probably be uploaded in less than five minutes.

There's nothing I can do to fix bad strings already generated by the game, unfortunately. So you're going to have to live with lower case faction names and poor pluralization on things already existing in a save.
Linxu 19 hours ago
Thanks for looking into it! I bet it's something really small and dumb lmao
ilyvion  [author] 20 hours ago
Alright, thanks folks, I'll look into the language problem. At least it's a relatively low-impact bug, haha.

@ilyvion

Sorry for the late reply, but that pops up when a herd of animals joins your colony.

The capitalization issues meanwhile pop up with custom human names from mods.
Linxu 23 hours ago
@ilyvion

To further confirm @Fungus Kreeman's comment; this mod does mess up the capitalisation of names. Took me ages to narrow it down as I didn't expect it to be this! I tested it by having only this mod (and Harmony) with the base game and the DLCs.

Steps I used to reproduce:
1. With this mod and Harmony enabled, create a new colony
2. Progress through the menus until you get to tile selection on the map
3. Open the 'Factions' tab, then look at the faction names

I've seen things such as 'The orange Empire' and 'Pog-pog concord.' What tipped me off to the issue was seeing various pawns in the world with names which are lower case, e.g. 'otto' and 'llorocan.'

i think because when nothing happens in screen (at least for me even with the changing background) the game freezes, meanwhile with this mod there always something changin up, speeding up the charge
ilyvion  [author] Aug 2 @ 5:46am
@MisterdinoPrime: Well, that's cool. Hopefully it's not because I broke something about your game...
Misterdino Prime Aug 2 @ 5:38am
thats strange, its passed of 45 min to 15 min( i have A LOT of mods)
ilyvion  [author] Aug 2 @ 4:42am
@Misterdino Prime: In my own testing, it actually adds 10-15% time to the loading time (so with a 5 minute load time, with this mod it should end up being 5:30 to 5:45 minutes instead. That said, psychologically it feels faster than just looking at a screen doing nothing. 😅
Misterdino Prime Aug 2 @ 3:35am
I don't know how, but when this mod, for a very strange reason my load charge of the game take now a lot of less time, good job
ilyvion  [author] Aug 2 @ 12:15am
@FungusKreeman.$: Where do I see said text? I can't say I've ever seen the phrase "herd of <animals>" in RW before, so it's a bit hard for me to diagnose. I tried to find other instances of pluralizing in RW, but nothing really comes to mind. I only keep finding the game doing things like "Elephant x5"
Fungus Kreeman .$ Aug 1 @ 8:17am
Hey, reporting in to say your mod works fine, but for some reason it screws up how the game capitalizes words or how it mentions mutiplies (a herd of "goat" instead of goats for example).

Not sure how the hell that came about, but when I removed the mod things were back to normal.

danke mein heart warming freund!
Azzkal Jul 31 @ 2:15am
@Flockerkill yea i test it 5 days ago
ilyvion  [author] Jul 31 @ 2:12am
That said, I'm happy to receive any logs with errors that are caused by the mod. Just make sure it's the mod and not something else; if the error still happens if you disable the mod, then it's obviously not my fault, lol.
Flockerkill Jul 31 @ 2:08am
the last update was 2 days ago XD
Azzkal Jul 31 @ 1:40am
@ilyvion now it work well, maybe you already fix it in update
ilyvion  [author] Jul 31 @ 1:16am
@Azzkal: Not much I can do about it without a game log. Are you able to upload it somewhere and send me the link?
Flockerkill Jul 31 @ 12:50am
@Azzkal
my game works fine with it and my other 87 mods

best try to disable one by one of yours till it does not crash so you see the problematic one

Mods crash with this mod

@exar.gon.sith: Hey, thanks for the kind words. 😊
exar.gon.sith Jul 30 @ 9:48am
To me is the undisputed, underrated, most important mod for rimworld. Should become a permanent feature for Harmony. Thank you very much for the mod @ilvyon !
Arcoma Jul 29 @ 1:12pm
@ilvyon thanks! now i won't have to look at the standard loading screen for 15 whole minutes wondering if the game has frozen or not!
Renzor Jul 29 @ 7:49am
!! it worked now! thanks :D
ilyvion  [author] Jul 29 @ 7:33am
@Renzor: There have been three new releases today that have addressed a few things, maybe it'll work better now? Sorry about causing any mod list resets.
Renzor Jul 29 @ 7:27am
tried this yesterday and gave me massive red errors to the point game turned off mods.
IDK why. I have all the vanilla extended, dubs hygiene, and various quality of life mods and texture packs. Under 200 mods total.
Rohzdear Jul 29 @ 4:21am
Has this run into similar issues to the ones BetterLoading had in 1.5 and previous versions of the game?
ilyvion  [author] Jul 29 @ 3:25am
I've released a version that shouldn't cause any language-related shenanigans during startup. Unfortunately, it also makes the mod basically untranslatable... but it seems like accessing mod-level translations during startup is extremely risky anyway; the core game loads its own translations very early, but mod translations are loaded later.
ilyvion  [author] Jul 29 @ 1:39am
@zzzdragon25: Thanks for the report; I'll look into it; I never tested with other languages.
ilyvion  [author] Jul 29 @ 1:39am
@Deggial: It works in well in my own testing, but people are reporting various issues.

My mod interferes with the loading process slightly, which can be disabled fully by turning off the Enable patching of initialization code setting, although it makes the loading process a lot less pleasant again.

I'm hoping to sort out any issues as they come in.
mwfraize Jul 29 @ 1:11am
I also got the glitch with it flickering a loading screen every other frame. deleting and redownloading the mod fixed it. hope this helps other people who might be looking for this. thank you for making this mod, for some reason this seems to make my game freeze on start up significantly less.
zzzdragon25 Jul 29 @ 12:09am
Massive texture loading errors while start up with any language except English.
I tried Chinese simplified, Chinese traditional and Japanese and got same errors.
Only tested with Core + all DLCs.
Deggial Jul 29 @ 12:06am
I was informed that the previous loading mod was broken by design, as mods apparently don't "like" being watched. In all seriousness, the claim was that 'better loading' interfered with the loading process and broke it fundamentally.

I argued that being able to see the bar moving towards the end is very reassuring.
However, if this breaks mods, it defeats the object.

Have you managed to avoid this fatal flaw?
Does 'Loading Progress' interfere with mods, or will they generally run as desired?
ilyvion  [author] Jul 28 @ 11:16pm
For anyone curious why HAR needed a patch, HAR basically relies on the "Initializing..." stage hanging the game, and since my mod stops that from happening, it caused the unintended behavior. Hopefully there aren't too many other mods relying on that kind of thing. 😅
ilyvion  [author] Jul 28 @ 11:12pm
@Arcoma (and others with errors when using HAR mods): New version with HAR compatibility released. Make sure the mod is updated before you report any potentially new errors.
ilyvion  [author] Jul 28 @ 9:55pm
@Arcoma: Can confirm, I'll look into it.
LordWolfi Jul 28 @ 8:01pm
nvm the new rimworld update seams to have fully broken this mod again...
(this time the game will ether load till a save in which no modded textures load or it will just load the game but not display anything except a broken log window)
LordWolfi Jul 28 @ 7:09pm
Last update seams to have fix most issue
theres still some small stuff but this may be the first that does it :WhiteWolfHappy:

For now-
Arcoma Jul 28 @ 6:25pm
for some reason this mod breaks the textures in Misstall's Vigil Race, it somehow disables the loading of the vigil mod textures, making it so that the game fails to find the textures related to the mod, returning a "Failed to find any textures at [vigil race texture path]" in the log
Vethrath Jul 28 @ 5:24pm
@ilyvion Rimsort is actually working, I just found and downloaded the mod and it sorted correctly. I'd recommend if anyone is having troubles with Rimsort to go to File->Settings->Databases. For some reason, the Community Database is by default set to None. I find this to be a bizarre choice. It sorted correctly for me using the downloaded community rules. Cheers. Thanks for the mod.
Whisper Jul 28 @ 3:11pm
@ilyvion Rimsort and Rimpy are having a whole situation right now from what it seems and they aren't giving feedback on load order. Just spent three hours trying to figure out why my modpack wasn't booting when I realized there were mods in wrong places. This mod also doesn't register as needing to be before core to load either. Just a heads up.
