@Erwin Rommel th YB-49 was designed from the YB-35 and work on the YB-35 started in 1941
Northtrop also built the N-9M in 1942 and at the time jet engine where considered unreliable and not interesting enough by the US

@Erwin Rommel respectfully the YB-49 was a much larger inspiration then the Ho 229 and was much more of a proof of concept then the Ho 229.

The Americans already had Northrop flying wing concepts and small prototypes flying in 1941-1942 before the Horten 229 was even in the start of its construction.

The YB-49 is a post-war design. The Horten Ho 229 wasn't the only inspiration for the B2 but it was the proof of concept of a jet-powered flying wing fighter and bomber. This can be said about many inventions. Parallel research and breakthroughs are very common in all fields of engineering, but it is clear that the Germans were slightly ahead of the Americans on this particular concept, despite the Americans having independently made their own breakthroughs.
