Thanks to the mod Log After Def Error (Continued), I was able to determine that the XML error mentioned by @Sumatris and @Ms Mommy Memer is being caused by VAE_Headgear_GasMaskRestored, VAE_Headgear_NightVisionGogglesRestored, and VAE_Headgear_BallisticGogglesRestored; and that the error is due to the hatRenderedFrontOfFace property being removed in RimWorld 1.5.

I also get the same error as Sumatris. One line of optional code might be dependent on another mod, but overall this error is not fatal. It could just easily be removed or have "may require" added to the bit of xml code, or patched. Either way a fix to this would be appreciated.

After the 1.6 update of the mod, Rimworld keeps throwing me errors like this one:

XML error: <hatRenderedFrontOfFace>true</hatRenderedFrontOfFace> doesn't correspond to any field in type ApparelProperties. Context: <apparel>

Does this have something to do with the XML Extension toggle mentioned above, or is it something on your end?

Also, if you understand why the VE team removed these items, could you please explain it to me? Because I can't for the life of me understand why they would remove unique gear like said goggles. It's not like there's anything even remotely similar in the vanilla game, and not even in other mods.

Thank you for this mod! I cannot for the life of me understand why they removed all of these items, many of which were very useful. I wouldn't mind seeing the chemfuel barrel from Vanilla Expanded - Security added if possible.

Small bugs: Flak Goggles and Night Vision Goggles of VAE\Defs\ThingDefs_Misc\Armor_industrial.xml should use <layers><li>EyeCover</li></layers> instead of "Overhead". This allows for use with Flak Helmet like old version.

Applies also for Gas Mask of VAPPE\Defs\ThingDefs_Misc\Apparel_Headgear.xml

I miss the tools and I am glad for this mod.
And considering micro managing .. somehow I have to put all those Inventory and Carry Mods to good use :)

The fun begins when you try to send 200kg of armed Space Marine with a 150kg Droppod ..

It seems like the goggles and gas mask is in the headgear layer, why is that? Shouldn't they be in the eyewear layer?

@Guide Dog If they're "not balanced" how is gene customization balanced by doing the same? And not everyone wants to do gene customization on every playthrough. It makes sense you should have tools for things your body can't do. Do you thing guns are shit because you could have a gun arm instead? Pretty weak logic, dude.

@Phoenixhydra These got removed because they're shit, they clutter the game, they're boring to micro or manage, and they're not balanced. They got made completely unnecessary by gene customization, and made custom genes look underpowered. Boom

I know but the rework for 1.4 had them remove the gas geysers as well as the chemfuel ponds and they never gave them back in the new mods.

I miss them :steamsad:

Now you're forced to go all the way to deep drills and deep scanning to get chemfuel and gas sources. That basically makes it pointless imho because by that time I'll have other sources of energy and built an entire grid around regular power so I'll never use helixien gas or need chemfuel to keep my base running.

Somebody said this restores the gas geysers from the old 1.3 version. Is that true? Doesn't seem so in the description :/

I never understood why the pickaxe was removed from VWE, it was so useful when paired with mountain bases and stuff.

Can the gas mask restoration be optional? i like the trapper hat, and summer hat, but the gas mask has no need to exist anymore because we have the vanilla gas mask. Alternatively, there could be an option to have it rebranded as a "armored gas mask" and given a bit of resistance/durability, perhaps. that keeps it unique from the vanilla gas mask and so it can exist alongside it.

I notice that the Scalpel can not be used as a tool anymore. This means if you have a medicine expert they can not use the Scalpel as it is a weapon and not a tool. Is this a change that is possible to make?
