@Tahu! I am having the same issue, making certain Xenotypes who specialize in hunting with melee weapons near impossible. No matter how low the priority is set or off to rest from non-immediately deadly injuries, Does not matter if hunting is priority 1, Does not matter the weapon use preferences, Does not matter if [Simple Sidearms] compatibility is on. Will hope for an update fixing this.

What a legend :) Thank you very much! I am using it to enable my tank Ghouls to go hunting but I didn't want to give them weapons, only shields.

@Zezy Mod should work with any shield-type from vanilla expanded now.

Amazing mod, thanks for the update! I found that it crashes when a pawn equipped with a Profaned Shield from the mod "The Profaned" goes hunting. Completely understandable if that is outside the intended scope of the mod because it otherwise works great.

Are melee pawns set to hunting supposed to run away when animals fight back? I cant seem to read anywhere in the comments that this is a thing, and it makes it harder to automate hunting when pawns need to be manually drafted.

@Rick This mod just enables melee hunting, it will not change other game aspects as far as I know

The pawn, with the drag feature disabled, continues to do so anyway. is it possible to disable dragging a corpse? most likely, the mod itself is not the problem, but I have no idea what to do about it

@Lazlo Most late game melee weapon can one or two hit kill most animals except thrumbo, elephant or megasloth (none of them are predators). Also melee hunting is extremely convenient if your melee psycastor pawn has a persona weapon with psyfocus absorbing, which means they no longer need medidation for they can feed on wild animals. Without this mod you have to draft them and manually order them to kill animals, which is a pain in the ass

Is there a patch or a way so that Colonists who hunt with melee dont get attacked by the animal they are hunting. Cause now when my Colonists go out to hunt, they return with like rabbit bites while range hunters are never attacked by passive animals when hunting them. Id really like it if a melee hunter is hunting an animal, on the first attack, either it misses or doesnt, the animal will try to flee or escape the hunter, like how they do it for range hunting colonists...

@Mlie I understand, I published the comment more with the intention of informing what happened and in case anyone experiences a similar problem, they can investigate which mods are in conflict or not if they are using the same version.

@Reaper137 I dont really have the time to find out what other mods are causing issues in various saves. The first thing I suggest you do is to update your game to the last version of 1.3, should be 1.3.3389.

This mod does not work in any way in my pre-existing save, I tried to put it in different positions in the mods list and enabled the available options in the game, the result was always the same, the colonist remained in standing mode and did not leave the place with any melee weapon, and even without any weapon, going hunting only when a long-range weapon was equipped, in the log I didn't see anything indicating conflict with this mod or I missed it, the report method didn't work for me and indicated an error, my list of mods is very extensive (324 mods) if you want to investigate I can send it privately or on discord, I'm using a version-1.3.3287 - previous 1.3

I removed my hunter access to the stockpiles of corpses with the intention to remove the hauling after killing the prey, and after killing some animals he was about to punch a monkey when the game crashed. Happened again after another try, very weird bug, seens to begone when i removed the zone restriction

@Mlie description is clear enough but problem is that when my pawn use gun, animal just move around until shot and dead but when same pawn use melee with this mod. Pawn hit the animal with sword and animal attack back eventually my pawn get injured and stop hunting. Shouldn't my Pawn hunt the animal unharmed or stealthily?

@Monkey Magic The skill used are dependant on the weapon as hunting is the same action as attacking

@Mile - the description also needs to be updated regarding 1.4 compatibility.

That aside, when using melee to hunt does the pawn use it's melee skill, or ranged skill (default hunting dependency) - and if so, how is this represented in game? For example:

Using Fluffy's Work Tab hovering over a pawn's duty will show that pawn's skill level (I dunno if this is also a vanilla mechanic, haven't played vanilla in forever)

So, will the skill level shown always be for ranged, or will it switch dependant on weapon equipped - or maybe both? Additionally, with PeteTimesSix's Simple Sidearms installed, will there be some issues with this mod, given that both ranged and melee can be equipped at the same time?

To partially answer my own question: Hovering over still only mentions Shooting and Animals as the relevant skills for hunting. Not sure if melee is calculated at all, or simply considered a shadow skill in this case.

An added option to only melee hunt animals that don't have an attack chance would be good. Or better yet, configurable per-animal.

Potential bug as it caused my colonists melee skill to rapidly level to 20 in one sec just standing in front of the animal. I've also seen predators standing in front of their prey without doing anything.

Could you add settings for pawns to use ranged weapon for hunting when it is available via sidearms? Then switch again to sidearms default (melee in my case) when hunt is over. I want pawns to not to shoot colonists in tantrum but still shoot when hunting. But don't see how it is possible now.
