Not gonna lie: never updating this. I don't know modding well enough to make it play nice the way I'd like to (compat with VFE Empire and Deserters).

It's a pretty simple mod, so if anyone's interested, feel free to update/create your own version or whatever. Sorry to disappoint boys

@Rimfy I noticed that this both does and doesn't happen. There's a chance to be put in the Separatist faction, but it doesn't happen every time. You can tell whether a rolled pawn is in the wrong faction based on the colour of their honour ranking.

If their noble title is white, it's the regular shattered empire. If it's red, they've been placed into the separatists.

@Gerewoatle @era If you're using the VFE - Empire, and you start the scenario "New Family" from the VFE - Empire mod, you automatically get placed in this faction. Only way to take it off is DevMode and switch "Title" to fix it. Is there anyway you could make this faction "Neutral"? I love how it actually is compatible with VFE - Empire if it wasn't hard coded to be hostile, because when I had a title for this your empire mod, it worked properly but the -100 was the only thing blocking it sadly.

It seems like I get quests from the separatist faction, despite them being perma-hostile. Could you change this so they're not offering me jobs? It just seems kinda janky for them to be offering Goodwill rewards when it's impossible to get goodwill with them, and because why would I be helping a group that treats me as kill-on-sight.

@Gerewoatle I haven't looked into it, but I doubt the functionality from VFE works for the separatists. There may be issues.

@TeleportBehindYou the definitions for my mod are completely separate from the vanilla Empire. But the faction is still under the Empire category, so I assume the issue is whatever patching Imperial Remnant is doing to the faction itself.

And while pawn defs should be fine, you'd get a normal Empire faction alongside the modded one, not two of the modded faction. That'd be a very different thing/mod.

This mod seems to be incompatible with mods that alter the Vanilla Empire faction. I was thinking it was just going to be a red reskin of whatever the Empire happens to be, but it seems like that is not the case. I used the Star War's Imperial Remnant mod which changes the Empire to an Imperial Remnant faction and used this mod thinking it would just make a red version of that faction, but upon test generating a raid with this mod's faction, the raids never happen. I tried spawning in some people from this faction then but they were friendly instead of being hostile to me.

Yeah, I haven't tested it, but AFAIK it's hardcoded as hostile. Didn't think the game rule could change that.

Being able to ally them makes things a bit harder as you'd be able to get titles from two different Empire factions. Adding checks for that makes the mod more complex and it's pretty error prone from what I saw when using the older Rimiran Empire mods.

Plus this is supposed to be just a noble house trying to get more power from the default Empire one, not a real "against the Empire" faction. It's Empire in a slightly different flavor.

For rebel stuff you might be more interested in El's Rebel Alliance. Or just waiting for the Vanilla Expanded team mod tackling the Empire that's coming out soon.

@Mizati How do I go about doing that? I've tried "Forced relations" but they're still at -100. I don't think you can. Searched up how to and people say some factions are hard coded to being permanently hostile. Any wisdom or guide on how to change that

That's pretty neat. Would be interesting if you could ally with them when/if you accept the Deserter though, there never being a followup after you raid the outpost was always sort of weird to me. I'll use this anyway to add more neat things to do

Fun fact, you can use the scenario editor to make permanently hostile factions behave like normal factions

Man this would be perfect if you could actually ally with them and build a relationship. Is there any way to do that or is it just deadset on permanent hatred? Would've figured if it was a separatist faction they would be eager to let others help them :(

This is just what I was looking for. Good stuff.

Also Holgast, its not exactly hard to get back in the Empire's good graces in the base game anyway, because they bombard you with quests with goodwill rewards. So you can already loot gear that way with minimal long term effects. Plus, if this uses the same pawn kinds, then they'll still have death acidifiers and biocoding to limit loot.

it's too easy to get into semantics on who is bad and who is good on the rim. in the end, everyone is just trying to survive in their own way. best way to save yourself time is to think of anyone not willing to talk/trade with you for any reason as bad guys.

I have an idea for an update: if you intentionally fail a empire quest (IE: arrest the fleeing baron during said quest), soon a quest from the separatist imperials to ally with them. Accepting automatically makes the original empire faction hostile and you are allies with the Separatists. While Honor gain is slower, the noble rank privileges are better(Ex: 5 cataphracts instead of 4) and higher chances for better pyicasts. Eventually the Empire will ask you to defect and promises a rank up from your current one. However if you accept it will swap alliances again, and after you accept or decline there is no going back. You can still achieve the royalty dlc ending if allied with the defected empire but you have an additional hard faction to deal with. Quests from the Separatists will be the same as the Empire, so you don't have to pray for a royal tribute collector to wander in.

@Tri-Enclave President CEO hah my last message also kinda applies. It's supposed to be the empire but in a different color, for when you want to both ally and fight the Empire. Idea's of a separate house or something going against the default Empire faction.

There's the Rebel Alliance mod, or something like that, which is pretty cool! Adds a bit too much for my taste, so might roll something like that in the future maybe, thx for the ideas.

Lightweight is a good idea. Perhaps the deserter quest but they're deserting to the Separatist faction instead, and need you to protect them. You get a good reward instead of a title (more than just a Psylink).
Also, seems odd that this faction hates the player and is not meant to be allied with. Wouldn't it be better to be an alternative way to defy the Shattered Empire? Maybe anti-empire quests where you face off against them on map sites, or ambush and capture a certain pawn from them and give them to the Separatists?
Just spitballing, not sure if all that counts as lightweight, but fleshing them out is better than another "Psuedo" pirate/savage faction no?

@era - Understood! I just wanted to mention since i'm doing a blend of VFE: Ancients and Warhammer 40k. With the ultimate goal of exterminating any hostile faction on the map. I thought it would've been very cool to have another spacer-tech faction as an ally instead of an enemy, so I'll hold off from adding this faction in my run for now, since I'd rather not fight two groups that're likely to send cataphracts against my Marines.
