an idea, what about a long range atmospheric only bomber designed with high speed, and lots of guns for defense against enemy aircraft AA, or maybe even strafing. Mag plates on pistons perhaps and a bomb bay that uses the doors to open and close for picking up a set of warheads and dropping them.
