perhaps if Guard / Slam charges just naturally regen albeit slowly by default or being able to still "slam" with the Pavise with zero charges at the cost of damage, knockback and not having its unique effect proc and/or slams from the shield give some block charges back to facilitate a loop of slams and charges assuming you never wiff them.
Just want to bonk things with shields man.

Gauntlets and Pavises have kinda been powercrept by the quarterstaves, and recent changes to warhammers
We'll be improving both of these subclasses in the near future
for pavises specifically, we're looking at allowing the player to slightly move them while parrying (rotating around the player, but slow) and charging them like other guardian weapons to either get a free slam, or a free block (if that feels good during testing)

Regarding the thorium Soul Link, it will likely be discarded as 1.5 releases, adding some transformations to the vanilla game, in which case I should be able to "absorb" some thorium wildshapes and use them as orchid cross content so they still exist in some form(I am in good terms, and friend with the thorium dev team)
I just wanted to make one personal comment about the class, and it could just be my skill issue but I feel like enemies being able to pass through your shield before activating parry, or the parry locking your shield in place ruins the fantasy of the class a bit. (happens a lot to me with tiny enemies).
Would you consider some sort of accesory that makes it so switching to a pavise automatically activates a parry (with a cooldown of course)? Alternatively, I think pavises could use some type of curved hitbox to deal with flying or underground enemies. Just my opinion though, and it's limited to pre Brain/eater of worlds for now.
orchid, even outside the custom classes, is a really fun play and pairs well with thorium (because of the compatibility) but also with mods like consolaria, heartbeattaria, and rise of ages
i feel as though all of the mods compliment each other really nicely to deliver what is practically a vanilla++ experience, and it seamlessly fits into the game
orchid mod team did amazing, and i remember my first time using a custom class weapon, a shapeshifter weapon, which astounded me with how creative it was
speaking of which, are there going to be any future videos about progress regarding hardmode content for shapeshifter or any potential compatibility things between that class and thorium's transformations w/ soul link?
im super invested, orchid still holds up well today and is probably one of the best tmods out there, and i actually prefer it over something like calamity

for instance, obtaining 100% orchid DR will always reduce the "remaining" incoming damage by 50%.
200% orchid DR will reduce it by 75% (100% = 50% + 100 = 50% of the remaining 50% = 25%)
unsure if that's any clear? I'm sorry lol
My point is, I don't think it needs to be adressed, we just need to be generous with it, knowing that it won't cause major issues with the vanilla one :)

Gauntlets will definitely receive some love in the near future!
We've been thinking about having them give half a guard charge back on successful charged slam hits, leading to the parry - slam - parry - slam rotation you mentioned
(They should never give a full charge, as you'd be able to stay inside stationary enemies like plantera forever by alternating left and right clicks, effectively cheesing a ton of threats with no skill involved)
Gauntlets; As much as I like them, they are a bit lacking. The MOST I could offer is make attacks that successfully hit (Charge attacks and slam charge uses) give a guard charge, giving a sort of rhythm to punching & parrying while still having a use for Warhammers & Standards as a back up for incase you miss an attack or parry.
Damage Reduction; I've seen the recent video that addresses this, although I do agree with the Idea, I do think in it's current state it's a bit strict on how much it gives the player, think it just needs a minor tweak so the diminishing returns aren't quite as aggressive.
Overall; good class, hope to see more in the future, as it's currently my favored class for Terraria.

excited to see what y'all got cooking tho! i've enjoyed a lot of additions to the mod i've seen so far, and even if it needs a bit of work i still think guardian is a really cool class that'll really shine when it's polished!
Pavises need some love too, and we're thinking about ways to make them better ;)

We are currently working on ways to improve gauntlets and pavise core mechanics, to have them feel better / more special
The issue with gauntlets is that Quarterstaff does gauntlets job just much better and you can hit while charging them, further boosting it charges. Also parrying with them gets more difficult as the game progresses.
As for Pavise, its great against cultist and golem but its also suffers in very close contact. If an enemy is right on top of you, the pavise can't push them away since there's a small gap between player and the pavise. (an option for pavise to follow cursor while right-clicking could be cool)
The slams from pavise is honestly a little boring? Many of the hardmode ones are just projectiles that homes or splits, and while that is very practical, maybe add shockwaves, beams. Guardian suffers from Crowd Control outside of runes or the Horizon lance.
That's my comment so far. Its best to ask other players what they think of it.
How did you feel about pavises and gauntlets overall?
There is a testing consensus right now agreeing on them being too weak, or not special enough overall
1) Progression feels fantastic: There is always something to upgrade, and I really like the horizontal progression where you go for different events or areas to get different weapon types (gauntless, standards, quartstaves) , all used together in harmony, speaking of which.
2) Difficulty is Just right: Destroyer was a joke with Harmony, in fact Harmony was goated up to Golem, any contact bosses were shredded. The only struggle was EOL since she flies so erractically but was doable with time like warhammer and Plantera standard. That Prismatic armor was worth it.
3) Moonlord Drops: Other than sickflip and moon rune, I was hoping to get a warhammer drop from him so we can do post-moonlord content for thorium, but horizon armor is really great, that extra 100 hp combined the set bonus make its really fun.
Overall, did you a really good job Dev, 10/10. Really unique class that fulfills the Vanguard guardian fantasy.
