If you don't want to see an error message every time you load Rimworld: just open this mod's About.xml and add <li>1.5</li> under <supportedVersions>. Or even just rename 1.2 to 1.5, if you want to be even lazier. You can find this mod's file either by making a local copy of this mod (the copy will be in Rimworld's "Mods" folder), or by finding the folder(under Steam's workshop folder) named with the number of this workshop page.
a medium alter is 250 base work x6 +3 for granite making 1503
i assume you mean a medium alter cuz you say three times the size
the build modifier is 600% for stone
According to the wiki their working factor is not that different.

(its ok if not, i can make the chunk into bricks first) but havent had chance to try it yet
