Okay so I love the IDEA behind this mod. But can you please include the option to *just* turn off the pre-made backer characters? No offense to you but 90% of the "names" this mod generates are absolute gobbledygook and more immersion breaking than getting the same pre-made character.

I would love to be able to keep using the vanilla random name generator but without the pre-made ones. Thanks!

There is a user configurable chance to use vanilla pawn generation, essentially ignoring this mod. It's 1% by default. I do not know exactly how custom faction names work but they do appear to be taken from a random pool with no backer stuff included. Tynan would show up extremely rarely as it would be 1% chance for a backer pawn on top of whatever low chance he has to begin with.

Would love this except maybe having like a 1 in 1000 chance for name-in-game or backer characters to appear. Also how do custom faction names work exactly? Do these backer&nick names appear in those or are those taken from a random pool with no affiliation to anything? This only affects spacers and outlanders right?

Also what about Tynan Sylvester, does he appear anymore? He has a lower chance than other characters but its funny seeing him now and then. Shame if this removes his chance of appearing. You can't set him to the preferred characters either

for the 11th time. SKYE FOR THE 11TH TIME YOU HAVE CAME TO THIS COLONY TO DIE IN THE STUPIDEST WAY
basically: Skye joins my colony. and always dies in a way that noone would expect.
Some ways she died:
Friendly fire from a 50 cal to head while being surrounded by tribals

Moving infront of enemy fire while BEING TOLD to stay behind cover 2x

running into grenades because of combat extended making her flee at random directions 2x

Having a mental break while carrying her husband. which leads to his dead. causing her to casually go berserk during a raid and ends up killing the entire colony

Deciding to run wild and get hunted by an animal

went berserk and punched a thrumbo

And rest is just her dying from casual stuff... I mean she's a great pawn though. Good melee shooting and construction + tough guranteed as a stat. expect im just UNLUCKY AS HELL

Went looking for a way to outright disable backer pawns when Juan Manuel 'Lance' Hueso appeared twice in the one colony and this seems perfect. Can't wait to never see Lia and whatever that pizza fan one was called again.

I didn't rename it or remove anything, only restricted what the game generated pawns can spawn with.

Is the backstory "AI Spy" / Archotech spy still available with this mod? I can't seem to find it. If it's renamed, could you tell me what the name is?

One thing I still don't fully understand: when it says that it "outright prevents any predefined 'backer pawn' or 'name in game' name from being generated", does that mean just the name, or also the backstories/stats that come with that character?

This will be useful after removing Morgan Skeleton from my preferred names list. I also had several of 'Lynx' in my current save so now theyll be rare

Yes it can, but it wont change the name of any existing pawns, only the ones created after.

Well this mod works by making usable names from the backer pawns and "name in game" pawns. The tribals and imperials don't have any unusable names locked away anywhere so there's nothing for me to convert. To have more variety for the other groups someone would have to come up with the extra names themselves and I am not nearly creative enough for that.

Not the tribals or the imperials. Those use their own name pools.

Do these name combination not work for tribals? I feel like every second pawn is still called Yak, Sloth or Blue...

@Bobkiri, I took the count from the C# List variable that the names are stored in internally. Where it gets the names from, I do not know.

Thank you for the good mod. Do you happen to know where the full name list of Vanilla Rimworld is? I spent months trying to print out the name of the pawn in the letters of my country and made it almost possible with a combination of various mods, including this mod. However, I am having trouble translating Rimworld's full name list because I cannot find it. None of the mods on steam had a list of all the names, and I thought you might know from the fact that you recorded the exact number on the description page. Could you please tell me?

the only downside is not instantly knowing if the pawn with the "fun and wholesome family fun" backstory has spawned in by the name alone

I did the math on how many name combinations this mod has, from what I got are are two results:

26,431,110 name combinations without nicknames.
135,380,145,420 name combinations with nicknames.

From those numbers, this mod is definitely worth getting. Using this with trait & backstory mods can truly make each pawn unique.

Yes you get the increased name pools no matter what you have the slider set to.

One question: if you choose a value for the new slider that is not 0%... do you still get access to the bigger pool of names, not normally available in Vanilla? Or does the addition of backer pawns disable that? I hope my phrasing was clear. Thank you and have a lovely day!

@Axlit, it was such a good idea actually, that I've gone ahead and done it. There is now a slider for a chance to have the vanilla backer pawns/names. 100% = vanilla rates. 0% = how it worked with this mod before.

Hello! Does RimWorld allow mods to change "backer pawn" probability? I don't want to loose them, but now they are way too common... It would be nice if your mod had an option to just lower down their probability instead of preventing their spawn at all.
