Nice and cool-looking. Btw did you know that when they did their last test with the urban warrior-program they had developed a different find of urban camo called T-pattern? I have seen images of it and think it would be cool to see the HECU in it plus I think it would fit the setting for Half-life/Black Mesa perfectly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SR3B5m35NE

Can you just change only the shirt? Not the armor and gloves?

After consulting with others, extensive testing, and even attempting to fix it by recompiling all of the Marine models, I have failed to find a working solution. Other modders have also reported this issue with the Marine's model, but it is unknown why and recompiling the models does not fix it. The game's filepath does point to the vpk but somehow the game does not load it. Bringing up the texture window and pressing refresh will always fix it, but that's a complicated solution.

The only surefire solution I can offer is for you to simply put the vpk in your custom folder, it will 100% work properly then.

That's an old issue I've "fixed" twice now, but thanks for letting me know it's still happening. I'll consult with some people and see if there's anything I can do, but I'm pretty sure it's a workshop problem. In the meantime you could put the .vpk in your custom folder if you have one set up.

You can find the .vpk in:

The textures only work the HECU zombie.

@rl578us What's the issue?

Needs update

I really like the retexture of this, it's more clean and noticeable!

Sure! It's uploaded here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2696631197

Details on the mod page are sparse because I'm currently very busy, I'll pretty it up later.

@Dilloninator I could make one with the vests being green again, but I cannot add a balaclava because that would require remodeling which is a skill I don't have.

@scottmorton99 I'm investigating this, it may be a workshop issue. In the meantime you can get around it by navigating to

Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\362890\1933190371

and copy the 'Urban Warrior Marines.vpk to

Steam\steamapps\common\Black Mesa\bms\custom

The game always checks for custom content here, so even if it doesn't work on the workshop for some reason, it will always work when it's in here.

Can you make a version with the vests being green like the original model? Are you also able to add a black one hole balaclava for the non gasmask models?
TömmyLørd [FR] Apr 23, 2021 @ 5:41am
Do you think that you could upload this mod for Gmod ? I like the original HECU from Black Mesa thatw as upload on Gmod but having this model on Gmod would be way better.
Mr. Someguy  [author] Feb 15, 2021 @ 9:52pm
@Canada What do you mean "all the gas masks"? There is only one gas mask, the M40, unless you meant make all soldiers (even medic and officer) wear mask? I could do that, but it would be a different mod, and it would be incompatible with any mods that alter the character_manifest (which any mod that adds characters do).
Canada Feb 15, 2021 @ 12:24pm
can you make a version with all gas masks
Mr. Someguy  [author] Feb 14, 2021 @ 11:03am
@Vassago Rain That would unfortunately require modelling experience, because I would have to change the 3D model rather than just the texture.
Vassago Rain Feb 13, 2021 @ 9:52pm
Can you add a PCV?
Lazy Nihilanth Sep 6, 2020 @ 12:55pm
This is objectively better than the default design in my opinion.
Mr. Someguy  [author] May 28, 2020 @ 6:13pm
@balaclava grunt The medics do not, I wanted to leave them as they were.
[SV]FeReise Mar 12, 2020 @ 1:42am
Thank you! Your mod work fine with the custom folder method.
Mr. Someguy  [author] Mar 11, 2020 @ 5:16pm
I have reinstalled the entire game and that fixed the issue for all of my mods, including this one.

If anyone else is having this issue, I would suggest trying the same. I wouldn't normally suggest the nuclear option first, but Adam (the lead developer) did suggest using a fresh install for Black Mesa 1.0 and this did correct the issue for me.
Mr. Someguy  [author] Mar 10, 2020 @ 12:32am
I have updated the item but it does not appear to have fixed it. I will attempt to investigate the cause more later but I am out of time for tonight. I have updated the description with a temporary fix.
[SV]FeReise Mar 8, 2020 @ 11:41pm
Thank you very much!
Mr. Someguy  [author] Mar 8, 2020 @ 9:44pm
I've noticed this too but I didn't know if other people were experiencing it. Nevertheless I intend to update it this week, perhaps tomorrow.
[SV]FeReise Mar 8, 2020 @ 5:19pm
Seems like the updated 1.0 screwed this up. Is it's possible to update this one?
Mr. Someguy  [author] Dec 22, 2019 @ 11:35am
@Zed That actually is something I thought about doing, but I hadn't gotten to it. I'll have to try it out later and see how I like it.
ZED Dec 17, 2019 @ 7:12am
Minor suggestion: I'm not sure if this is possible or if it would look good, but maybe you could add some fingerless gloves to the bare-handed soldiers? Also, swapping the helmet and gasmask colors might look good as well. (Green helmet, black mask, blah blah you get it)
Mr. Someguy  [author] Dec 17, 2019 @ 5:16am
@MrJustin That's one of the pictures I used for color reference, and I agree; I think the HL1 HECU may have even been inspired by those photographs, as they were circulated by the press while HL was late in development.

I would have loved to apply the emblem to the arms, but unfortunately the texture is mirrored down the middle, so one side would be backwards. Flag can be done though if I can make it look good, since they are wearing a modified G3 Combat Shirt, the area where the patch would normally go isn't the same as it is on the real design. That and I'm not sure the troops would want to be wearing the flag while gunning down civilians though!
Sisulainen Dec 16, 2019 @ 9:30pm
I was just looking for something like this, I saw this [picryl.com] and thought the guy standing looked just like an HECU marine and how much of a good mod that would make. The only thing I feel this mod could some is HECU patches or markings and an american Flag Patch. Really good mod though, definitely a new favorite, thanks man, you read my mind.
