It was better to remake from scratch. Generals and Traits is now obsolete.
Since the new launcher was created, I have been unable to update this mod. The Steam ID will not appear. So, there will have to be a completely new version made and posted to Steam.
i can unto you and this mod at the beginning of summer
when using the mod it removes all of Turkeys starting spirits (from BFTB, sectarian woes, kemalist officers, disorged army)
Im trying to figure out why, as its JUST THIS MOD that does this
Kinda confusing why (turkey is still perfectly playable, it just affects some of the gameplay that BFTB added to Turkey)
That need to be fixed
I know one reload command for the trait-window itself ("reload traittreecommonwindow.gui" or something like that) but it doesnt reload the traits themselves. If I add a trait I have to reload the game for it to appear in "Leader details". Do you know of any reload commands that solves this? Thanks in advance and I hope you dont mind me asking!
Be advised my computer went tango uniform so there will be no further updates or developments until I can afford a new one, which may be quite a ways off. This include the 1.93 update.
Panpiper, I just had that Rommel graphics glitch in a recent test game. His portrait changed to Balck when I promoted him to FM. After I promoted Balck, then he went back to normal. No idea what causes that.
No immediate plans for an update, but still would like to do admirals at some point, as well as Netherlands, Greece, and a couple of additional generals for majors. It's be cool to do something for air force generals, but no idea on how that could be programmed properly. Plus only Germany and U.S. have portraits.
So I took Hermann Balck and put him in command of five "mechanized infantry" (26 width combo of light tanks & motorised with artillery). I sent them to Spain. (I cheated the quantity of forces I could send.) With that force of course, he blitzed through everything. When he came back he had reached third level with basic skills in the twos and threes, not to mention several bonus earned skills. I expect by the time he's gone through Poland, he'll be the equal of native Rommel or Guderian, except for the trouble, he'll also have all those extra bonus skills.
I know, not the way the game is 'supposed' to be played, but hey, it's my game. Your mod though... It great.
To answer your first question, the amount of units does increase experience. Compare von Manstein in Spain with two panzer and one motorized divisions versus Messe in Ethiopia, where he can have 24 divisions including 3 tank and 3 cavalry to gain all traits faster than anyone in the game. The amount of specialized units doesn't seem to make a difference in how those traits increase. For example, just having 3 tank divisions out of 24 (to make the 10% required) means you will gain the panzer leader experience even if those tanks aren't in combat yet. The threshold was lowered to 10% to obviate the need to put all your tanks in one army, and keep the option available to spread them around with infantry divisions as they were historically.
I'm not sure what the hell is going on with Balck and Rommel. I checked their portrait paths and didn't see any duplication. See if it still happens with the new version.
panpiper: Thanks very much and glad it is working for you. I think they really missed the boat with general progression. It could have been a much more interesting feature with guys progressing upwards from leading armies to army groups, then theaters, then becoming national advisors. Also, a slowly rising experience level could help, such as gaining terrain traits from moving through enemy terrain types and not just combat.
cont...
Question unrelated to the mod specifically, though certainly directed towards ways to use it... Does it matter how many units a general commands in order to gain XP? Am I better off sticking each one of my mixed armor/infantry division with a separate general in order for all of them to progress, of will my generals progress faster with more divisions under their control?
I'd apprecheate it much! A mod "all in one" would do it for me. If you would put a youtube video on how to do it, the community could help you out.
Tanobi: I've thought about it but haven't really looked into it yet. Maybe in the future. The admirals and generals are all part of the same text files so I'd either have to make it all-or-nothing or make multiple versions of the mod to do so.
If anyone has any requests to buff or nerf any of the traits in this mod, now's the time to post your suggestions. When I get some time after the release of 1.91 I will update this mod, so if there's changes you'd like to see (or not see) we will have time to discuss before release. Thanks.
I have a suggestion, if I may, how about introducing the ability to train generals and field marshals not for new traits but for removing already existing bad ones.
For game balance I don't want to have op generals just ones that don't suck.
Right now 1.9.1 is only beta.
