this mod will overwrite the icebox contianer requirement, making you unable to place thermos in icebox
Rachel_Wulf Sep 15, 2021 @ 10:42am
does adding the compatible = true for hamlet work with this mod as well?

Can you please help me to write the simple mod to make Hamlet gummy slug not spoilable, so i can keep it as my pet forever? I suppose it's similar to this mode. I really will miss my slug if it spoiles :(
StuckatHome Dec 26, 2017 @ 1:07pm
for anyone who want to use this mod on shipwrecked, you can add shipwrecked_compatible = true" to modinfo.lua like the person below said. it works fine BUT i've notice a bug with thermal stones. somehow, if this mod enabled in your world you'll not be able to freeze thermal stone in the ice box anymore, which is really suck for dry season. i've only found this bug so far so use it with your own risk!

Why the sanity loss? Crystallized honey is best honey ;(
Rachel_Wulf Sep 10, 2017 @ 2:06pm
Will this ever be updated for Shipwrecked?
Oroborius Aug 16, 2017 @ 11:49pm
Ya like jazz?
ScarletCinder Jan 26, 2017 @ 11:21pm
@Mouse Thank you for this great mod, not just does it make the game make so much more sense, it actually got me into putting a tiny bit of locally made wild flower amber honey into my regular diet since mid 2016 when I hadn't thought about honey in years.

I was wondering, and I know it's likely a large investment of time but is there any chance you might be able to port this mod into Don't Starve Together? Just Wednesday I had a friend complain about how stupid it was that her honey went bad and I told her I had a mod that addressed that but it was only accessible on my single player runs.
Wooby6 Sep 8, 2016 @ 4:11pm
add "shipwrecked_compatible = true" to modinfo.lua
tested works fine

A really great mod. Thank you!

to the person below: pretty sure ash fertilizer and this mod are by the same person
Somnazul Mar 22, 2016 @ 10:52pm
Between you and the person who made ash a fertilizer I feel people are understanding how things SHOULD work. Thank you for this. I'm new to the game and I immediately thought this when the honey began to "spoil"

would be nice to see this updated, but i think the author is banned :/ shame, he had some great mods

Would love to see this updated for new DLC =D

Can you cook it while the honey is only stale or spoiled (red)? Or do you have to wait for it to crystallize?
BountyHunter Jul 4, 2015 @ 5:00am
Valid point, however I tend to think of it as patience rather than laziness. I may sub and make the change for myself. All-in-all; quality concept.

P.S. I do enjoy steak tartare
🐭  [author] Jul 3, 2015 @ 4:59pm
I make it a habit to not reward laziness. If you let honey fully spoil and can't be bothered to cook it before eating it, then a slight sanity loss is justified. It's the same thing with raw meat. Some people might like eating raw meat IRL but there's still sanity loss in game for it. The sanity debuff will remain unchanged.
BountyHunter Jul 3, 2015 @ 11:53am
I too oppose the sanity loss from eating crystallized honey. I actually prefer my honey that way, and as such is the reason I have not subscribed.
PrideGroupIsEvil Jun 30, 2015 @ 12:39pm
i agree with EtherSword, you should rename this mod or work on the image or both because i too have overlooked this mod several times. upon reading the description however it's not bad at all.

i still wont use it until i beat the game at least once without balancing changes though, and as unique and small of a change to the balance this brings, it's still a change.
Kwynn May 25, 2015 @ 3:34pm
I like adding crystallized honey... Why the sanity loss? My character is supposed to represent me,so he should be like a better version of me!
Levantina May 2, 2015 @ 12:52pm
Great! I have always thought that the spoiling rate for honey was stupid too, as I also knew that honey doesn't spoil over time Cool mod, dude! :p2cube:
Snazzy Dancer Apr 22, 2015 @ 10:20am
Amazing nice job ;)
EtherSword Feb 22, 2015 @ 2:28pm
I almost overlooked this mod. Judging from the title, it sounded like you just removed the perishable timer on it but not necessarily that, but instead made it more unique and interesting.
Takchiki Feb 11, 2015 @ 3:05pm
Again, thank you very much!
🐭  [author] Feb 11, 2015 @ 4:48am
@Takchiki
It's fixed now. Sorry again.
Takchiki Feb 10, 2015 @ 5:25pm
Another problem: I'm playing the expansion version of the game and I can't store the Thermal Stone in the Icebox. If I disable this mod, I can store it in the Icebox again.
Takchiki Feb 8, 2015 @ 2:27pm
Thank you very much!
🐭  [author] Feb 8, 2015 @ 1:36pm
@Takchiki
I fixed it. You should receive an update any minute now. Sorry about that.
Takchiki Feb 8, 2015 @ 1:21pm
Yes.
🐭  [author] Feb 8, 2015 @ 1:16pm
@Takchiki
By any chance did they disappear while in the ice box?
Takchiki Feb 8, 2015 @ 12:40pm
I am playing the vanilla version of the game and my Honey disappears instead of turning into the prefab "crystallized honey."
Tresixth Jan 12, 2015 @ 1:39pm
@ [#!].mouse

I like your realistic mods. i wanted to run something by you. maybe you may want to make this happen, i dont think anyone has. We are on an island that has no coconuts. bananas would be cool too.
🐭  [author] Jan 10, 2015 @ 9:40pm
@Virplexer
No I'm afraid not. Honey doesn't spoil because it slowly and naturally produces small amounts of hydrogen peroxide which kills the bacteria that normally breaks down food and makes it spoil. (Hence the bandages made from honey in DS.) No preservatives are necessary at all. If the honey you bought from a store has added preservatives, then it's likely the honey was cut with something to help lower the price. For example, corn syrup. What you're probably thinking of is the filtering and heat treatment process many honey distributors use to make their honey "pure" and help keep honey from crystallizing. This process also dilutes the flavor and destroys a lot of living enzymes and such. Because of that, the popular belief is that raw honey is healthier than heat treated honey. Regardless, no, properly stored honey doesn't spoil. It just becomes less fit for human consumption as the decades, or even centuries, pass.
Virplexer Jan 10, 2015 @ 8:29pm
Honey does spoil... well natural honey. Honey thats bought from stores doesn't spoil because of added perservatives. But in game, you can't add any, therefore it spoils.
Skittles Jan 2, 2015 @ 1:39am
smoke to calm bees, maybe put them to sleep like a pan flute, would be a good mod

This is fantastic. Thanks!
Spooky Soo Jul 27, 2014 @ 10:41am
Thanks for this one too, Mouse. I never understood why honey was given the properties it has by Klei.
jintoya Jul 3, 2014 @ 11:03am
and as a honey loving person i yet again find myself thanking [#!].mouse for the hard work put into this mod.
might be another good mod to make for honey bees and the like if you got a smoke gun thing to use on bee nests, collect the honey and incapacitate the bees, just a suggestion.
thank you for this mod again.
Malaise Jul 1, 2014 @ 7:01am
The thumbnail for this is hilarious
🐭  [author] Jun 28, 2014 @ 3:13am
@mikechmi
Agreed. Honey is one of my favorite foods. I've looked into raising honeybees in the past though. It seems a lot like the whole process is at the mercy of the weather. It would be cool to try out though.

@Maltoroy
Yes it is.
mikechmi Jun 28, 2014 @ 12:22am
Thanks, my grandfather used to raise honeybees and I picked it up for awhile. As strange as it sounds one of the things that really irked me about this game was that they had honey spoil!
Maltoroy May 21, 2014 @ 10:22pm
Im guessing that the mod is RoG compatible?
