Lmao Canada is not OP and the bonuses it has are suiting to it's heritage. Idk what you were on about Arcadian.
Arcadian May 30, 2021 @ 5:48am
@Alyfox No. It will add these bonuses on top of the already OP Canada. When I tried I had farms with 7 food and mines with 7 production on tundra, and that's without tech bonuses. So it's obviously cheating to use it. I just wish there was a mod that nerfs Canada's improvements on tundra and snow.

Will this mod work with the Frontier Pass stuffs?

I just played a game on Emperor as Canada with this mod and it was indeed a lot of fun. It made me wonder if Canada's a tad overpowered now, as I pretty much romped to an easy victory. It could be due to a lucky starting position, that I'm just awesome, or whatever, but it was the easiest time I've had in an Emperor game so far. I won on culture, but also had 18 diplomacy points at the end, a powerful military messing around in allies' wars, and was on my way to a science victory as well.

I agree with VedddeeR, we need a workaround or just scrap the whole Formal War Only policy that Canada has. The achievement to get Canada involved in an Emergency is tough enough.

I wish we can get a mod for Canada that will let me attack someone without reasoning, sometimes people just need to be clapped.

Yes I do have it enabled and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

I found an interaction between this mod and Real Building Upgrades. This is what I posted over there:

I've found an interaction that's very buggy: with Better Canada and Real Building Upgrades (and no other mods) Canada's tiles get way too high of yields in Tundra. I'm not sure why Real Building Upgrades affects yields on Turn 1, but for some reason it does.

Hi General Profit, we gave Canada production from tundra tiles to make the nation a bit more well-rounded. They already receive culture from the ice hockey rink, and production can be used to further any victory type. This way, the player can choose how to play Canada instead of being strongly influenced to take the culture victory route.

Hi drw543, do you have Gathering Storm installed and enabled? This mod requires GS because it modifies the nation of Canada that was added in that expansion.
General Profit Jul 20, 2019 @ 3:34am
Interesting mod although might I suggest taking out the +1 production and replacing it with +1 culture? as with both of them it makes tundra tiles outright better than grassland/plains, would synergise better with four paces of peace and distinguish it better from the russian ability

When I try to create a new game with this mod on it crashes my game. I tried it so that only this mod on it crashes my game.

Hi dstrelek, thanks for the comment. I'm glad you like the mod :)

Nicely done. Personally, I never had a problem with Canada the way it was, but I have to admit you've addressed some valid points. The Mountie adjustment is especially welcome, as the previous way they had it made little sense.

Hi weregamer, thank you for your kind comment. I'm glad you're enjoying the Canada mod. We also made one for Norway, and our aim there was similar - to make a balanced mod that fits the game. You might be interested in that one too :)
weregamer Jun 9, 2019 @ 1:07pm
I really applaud this mod. It's very well balanced and well thought out. (And shame on Firaxis for getting the leader/culture bonuses the wrong way to start with, though that has no effect as yet.)

So many mods are overpowered, I appreciate the restraint on this one. I don't know how many of the comments below reflect changes that aren't in the original description, but TBH for anything but seeking achievements, National Parks might as well not exist. I think I built one once to get the boost, but found that the boost was not worth the fuss and the 1000 faith.

@AOM when I play canada I always have more culture then science

Hi 『J1r2000』 , we can try moving the Mountie to Colonialism or Nationalism, but I'm not sure Wilfred needs that. I've been putting him in all my games since this mod went up to see how he will do. In my current game, I was forced to declare war on him because he was about to win a culture victory. He's been doing very well in every game since the mod.
『J1r2000』 May 10, 2019 @ 4:20pm
I realised how to make the Mountie better just move it back to culture tree instead of the tech tree
AOM  [author] May 5, 2019 @ 12:24pm
cyclops, those are all interesting ideas. Would any of them be appropriate to use with Laurier? If not, is there something that could be done for him? The "four faces of peace" bonus doesn't seem to fit the Canada that was released in GS very well. If they wanted to have that bonus for Canada, the leader should have been Pearson, not Laurier.
AOM  [author] May 5, 2019 @ 12:16pm
J1r2000, we play against the AIs, and I cannot remember ever seeing an AI make a National Park. I rarely bother making them myself. I guess, in games played against people who tend to make National Parks, this could be seen as a nerf. We can add the Mountie's bonus in National Parks back in, so he will have both bonuses. Our goal was definitely not to remove something helpful from Canada.
『J1r2000』 May 3, 2019 @ 8:33pm
the Mountie change seems to be a nerf though

Some ideas for Canadian civ stuff.

Sam Steel in Canadian history.. Probably a ton of good ideas there for more Canadian leaders. He was involved in the Mounties + Yukon gold rush + the Metis war + policing and patrolling etc..

Canada has forts built all over the place!!! Like every city has one they use as culture centers or museums now, they were used by settlers and the Mounties back in the day. Yet no settler/fort things in game for Canada?

Also the fur trade and lakes and logging and fishing were/are HUGE factors in Canadian history.. So why is there no Hudson Bay Company in Civ 6?

For a long time Canada wasn't even really a country, it was just a bunch of business's, employees, settlers, mounties doing MASSIVE amounts of trade with the rest of the world. And it has been multicultural from the very beginning.

And what about Canadian Pacific railway?! serious nothing about building the rail way in the game..?

No maple farms either? or ice fishing?

Hoshi May 1, 2019 @ 6:30am
Doesn't canada have increased production on Tundra Mines? won't this be very overpowered Production together with all tundra tiles with +1 production as well ? And maybe they could have a +1 food on camps and cattle on tundra.

Hi Bunzato, we tried very hard to keep from making Canada overpowered. We used Russia as a guide to some degree. Where Russia gets faith and production from the tundra, Canada gets food and production. Russia gets 8 tiles when placing a city on any terrain, Canada can purchase cold land cheaply. Russia gets advantages from blizzards and an especially powerful early special building, Canada gets a comparatively late special building, tundra farms, and a resource bonus.

While Canada is still not as powerful as Russia, it's better than it was. Also, Canada's power is highly dependent on the board. Most of Canada's bonuses will not help at all if it lands in a place that is made up mostly of non-cold territory (its Mounties will still be able to make national parks, and that's the only bonus they would have).

We're still play-testing it to see how the AIs play as Canada. In human hands, it plays like a solid mid-tier civ if it gets the right terrain.
Bunzato Apr 30, 2019 @ 1:39pm
This is a really good step, but I fear it might be a little too strong, balance wise, going to try it out for sure though.
BobbyFatGun Apr 30, 2019 @ 12:12pm
Thanks for this.

It's great that Mountie to replace the Cavalry. Maybe Rough Rider can replace Cuirassier too.
