I'm not sure I would have to investigate the tables and options regarding hero levels.
I fear that there is no global modifier like for units, which is needed to do it AND keep
it highly compatible. Otherwise it would be a lot of work and would break with every change / overhaul....
Does this include the AI?
The right amount is also very much dependent on the playstyle and other mods used along with this.
I use the "Blood for The Blood God" Mod. This mod makes every unit fight to the last man. Even skaven slaves. That mean that every unit has to be wiped out completely and gives much more XP since XP is gained only for slayed entities in a unit.
Means if a 100 men unit is wiped out it give more XP than a 100 men unit which routed with 30 survivors.
Probably why 5k XP doesn't feel much for me ;). I achieve that after 2-3 fights with the more elite units.
Reckon I'd either lower it a tad (say 3k or so) or up the stat gains per chevron. Reckon both are kind of like a slippery slope though.
But more importantly; it's your mod. So IMHO it should be tuned towards what you prefer to use. One way or another, I prefer the 5k/chevron over the elite-out-of-recruitment playstyle, so I'm gonna stick with whatever turns out to be your preference in the end.
In your description you mentioned the mod being highly compatible as well as 1500xp being required to reach the first chevron, and I was wondering if I fucked up a setting somewhere sometime.
Also, if you don't have time to look into the issue, could you point me in the right direction as to how I can fix it myself (preferably with video tutorial as I'm retarded with computers).

Still, I'm conflicted about removing it. On the one hand, it cheapens the leveling system, on the other it helps the AI stay competitive.
When they get 0.5-1 rank/turn, there's not much point to remove recruitment bonuses, it only ends up as a nerf for the player.

As far as I know there is only a difficulty related rank-bonus for AI which I removed.
The XP generated trough buildings and heroes and skills each turn can't be removed without altering the heroes, buildings and skills.... I didn't removed them if it's what you mean
Just out of curiosity, what do you consider as Key Building ? Landmarks ?
