While the Red Cross does reserve the right to trademark their logo, and there is a certain sanctity in the clear and untampered messaging involved in such a symbol, this is a mod. This is not in the official game, this is just someone changing the color of a symbol that, in the context in which he's using the red cross symbol, it holds no life-or-death meaning. No one here is defiling the symbol.

While legally this would not necessarily fall under fair use, the law isn't necessarily the ultimate purveyor of morality. I see no immediate issue with the context in which the symbol is being ‘misused’.

I've never really quite accepted the position of the ICRC on this. Game devs are literally using the emblem to showcase "health" and "life" -- exactly the purpose of the real symbol. People see the symbol in a game and/or real life and think the same thing: people stay alive. Any attempt for ICRC to claim otherwise is just posturing, applying and interpreting trademark law far too rigidly.

That said, the new textures are actually better than the old ones; they're 2.5D!

You aren't honoring the Geneva Convention because neither of us are acting on behalf of the military of a signatory nation of the Geneva Conventions (or at least, I'm not). It's like saying you *intend* to honor the law against speeding on roads by preemptively paying the government for a speeding ticket despite never speeding; you can do it if you want, but you're not honoring it by following it in situations it wasn't supposed to apply in. You are ignoring both the spirit and the letter of the law that you claim to honoring.

You can use this mod if you just prefer the color green over the color red, it really doesn't matter that much to me at all. I'm not petitioning for you to delete this mod or whatever other silly ideas you seem to have gotten into your head, I'm just mildly annoyed that you're stating that the Geneva Convention has anything at all to do with that decision when it is very explicit that it would not apply here in any way, shape, or form.

I dont know. Quantum computing algorithm thesis papers are just a few thousand words long. The slightly-well-educated people should be able to read them fine. I guarantee it.

Still, if you do not agree with my mod, then you may just as well unsubscribe from here, and also delete your local copy of this mod. Shred your local copy too if you want to clean it thoroughly. And finally, move along and enjoy life as it has always been, live your life the way you want to, and be on your way.

I did re-state the original idea of creating this mod though: someone overwrote something in vanilla game, and I bring those overwritten things back. It's that simple. (Although, of course, I also *intended* to honor the Geneva Convention on my side. Not legally required, but still I want to honor it.)

I as a modder am simply allowing users to opt back in to follow Tynan's design decision.

I have no knowledge of and have no interest in knowing how Red Cross operates.

First, the Geneva Convention applies to signatory nations. I can't think of any mod that was created by a nation's government, so the Geneva Convention is utterly irrelevant to them. If the Queen starts making mods it would be a bit more complicated, but until then we can ignore it.
Second, the part of the Geneva Convention that specifies that only the Red Cross/Crescent can use that symbol is specifically referring to a military using that symbol. I, as a private citizen, can use the symbol all I want. Red Cross sends threatening messages to people/businesses, but they have never once followed up in court if the person ignores those threats because they have no legal basis for their threats . They do not own the trademark on that symbol, they just like to pretend that they do.
