The top part is actually a neck gripper/choker. It was suppose to be a blade with it's own life would grab your neck and choke you or slice your head to death.

If you'll notice, the sharp edge of the said part of the blade, it is designed for stealth as you would be standing behind someone by surprise to cut his head or throat.

It can also be used to grab enemy weapons and disable it, etc.

The whole blade is for complicated and skillful combat.
If you're not worthy using the blade, wielding it will lead you to your own death as seen from the design.
Hence named as the Phantom 'Death' Blade
