Fair enough lol. Maybe someday you'll get the itch again! I'm currently working on your Yllcaster and Twinport for my survival run.

much appreciated, but after almost 1700 hours I somehow had enough of designing clunky ships :-D
Spicie Oct 18, 2022 @ 5:56pm
Aw sad. Was hoping to see some new ships from you soon. You and Spite's ISL collection are my favorites.

Maybe they changed something with the thrusters over the years or I had a mod installed when working on this, I don't remember.
I don't have SE installed for some years now, so I can't look into it, sorry. But if it works on SP, then maybe the MP server settings are lowering the thruster output or something?

In single player this works great but on my DS even with modded thrusters it just falls down with an empty UCU.

UPDATE APRIL 2020
- Grasshopper now has some more thrusters and 8 atmospheric thrusters (downwards only)
- Grasshopper can now lift ~115 tons on earth. That's about 3 times its own mass.
- minor design changes
Hull Breach  [author] Mar 18, 2020 @ 3:46am
Hm. Maybe the thrusters changed somehow. I will have a look at the ship. Maybe it's time to upgrade it.

Yeah I gotta agree, this can barely handle the small version at full capacity with realistic weight on planets. Tested it in fresh vanilla, no mods.
JimmyKnox Aug 19, 2019 @ 3:02am
yea friend said he tested it in creative and it worked.

maybe its something about sim-speed and keen-servers.
sim-speed has strange effects to speed and such.

anyways, we ended up with building a large grid ship with 4 large atmos (up) to lift the full UCU

thanx for your quick reply
Hull Breach  [author] Aug 18, 2019 @ 11:17am
I just tested it on a new savegame without mods and it easily lifted a full UCU (full of large steel tubes) without a problem. I play all my games with cargo capacity set to realistic.

I tried it at Keen server,
vanilla, standart block size cargo....

on Earth it was already strugeling to lift up the empty UCU, removed ions with atmos, put 4 more large atmos + large reactor on it, still no way to lift up UCU with some cargo, not full.

I didn't use them for a while now, so I can't guarantee that they work without messing with the rest of the thrusters. But last time, I used them, everything worked just fine.

Thank you for your feedback!

You've got some amazing builds, I'm still working my way through them. Using the grasshopper on a planet surface made me decide it was high time to fix the hydrogen consumption issue, and I remember you mentioning a mod that you use. I've looked on the workshop, and a lot of them either mess with other things as well, reduce the amount of energy you get from a tank, or are just broken. By any chance could you let me know the mod that you are using, if it still works.

Greatly appreciated, and keep up the awesome work!

@Andman : If you want, I just finished a cargo lifter based upon the Grasshopper that is capable of lifting 3 345 226 Kg in 0.17g. (Equivalent of 1 UCU full of Platinum Ingot in Realistic)
It should be able to lift a light cargo in 1g (Didn't tried)

I concidered trying some scripts from the workshop but I'm currently working on some other vehicles, so this will have to wait a few days, I think.
Andman May 28, 2018 @ 2:32pm
Have you tried MMaster Automatic LCD script?
Hull Breach  [author] May 28, 2018 @ 11:22am
The problem is that I can't script. I use "Visual Script Builder for Space Engineers". It's kind of a script sandbox for dummies like me. I can only make very simple scripts with that. ^^
Andman May 28, 2018 @ 10:42am
Have you considered to use a script to indicate how much weight is left till leaving atmosphere is impossible? (Ignoring hydrogen consumption in first place)
Andman May 28, 2018 @ 10:40am
I have filled the UCU up with ore. Using realistic inentory size, I get over 400tonns, impossible to lift in 1g environment
Hull Breach  [author] May 27, 2018 @ 12:57pm
Leaving a planet in SE is always a struggle because the hydrogen consumption in vanilla is way to high in my oppinion. On my private server I use an efficiency mod (x4). But I try to make all my ships vanilla ready. The mod just makes it a bit more comfortable.

I managed to leave earth in vanilla with a nearly full UCU but I had to put lots of ice into the generator before liftoff.
Andman May 27, 2018 @ 10:17am
Nice work!

Do you have a feeling how much weight the Grasshopper can handle while leaving Earth like planets?
