If he wasn't being penalised then I'd likely send him along in command of a sub-unit for the RP purpose of 'learning on the job'.
An alternative when attached to a sub-unit may be to experience the effects of being away from court without the prestige of command and without being labelled a coward.
I just noticed he's receiving an opinion mallus for apparently "Shying Away From Battle"
What?
Please consider my suggestions:
- The Negative impact on Prestige of not leading an army should be reduced if:
you character is injured, very old, a member of culture/religion in which leaders did not normally lead the troops (you may also consider some other reasons)
- The positive Impact on Prestige of leading an army should be increased for these same kinds of leaders described above (injured, very old, a member of culture/religion in which leaders did not normally lead the troops (you may also consider some other reasons))
Never saw ai leading armies when they are not at war.
I, however, am not convinced. The increased respect of other rulers is represented in the increased Prestige gain. And since you are busy leading troops you have little time to focus on diplomatic affairs. The Chancellor and Steward of the realm are already represented by the game in terms of State Diplomacy and Stewardship which directly influences others' opinion of you and your demesne administration respectively. So I think the maluses to stewardship and diplomacy are justified.
All your Mod are belong to us
Diplomacy: 1) you have none of the distractions of court 2) You have the increased respect of other leaders "He is doing the Do, leading his armies from the front, I wish I could do that"
@Alexi: I did not put that feature because many times some players put commanders on armies and forget to take them off after a war. If I implement reduced fertility for all leaders even without war then it has potential to ruin a game unintentionally. Also it will greatly mess up AI rulers because the AI is stupid. However, I could implement it for the player character.
Stewardship should stay the same or even go up, due to the skills gained in the administration of an Army. Those big tents are basically offices.
You could flag a regency of sorts where your Chancellor is running day to day affairs.
Diplomacy should actually go up.
Fertility -85% (and the only people who should be able to get pregnant are the hostages and whores he beds)
No matter how studly the husband is, his magic schlong should not reach across the North Sea, down into the Bay of Biscay and into my raiding Female leaders Cave of Pleasures.
There should also be a 3 year check, if the Female Ruler has not spent enough time with her husband/consort/etc "Is not ensuring the continuation of her dynasty" with maybe a -7 or -8 (I reserve -10 for the very highest passive offences), this would be only to people of her dynasty, with maybe a -2 or -3 to leaders who are a tier below her, Dukes for a Queen etc.
I haven't used this mod yet, but I'm seriously looking at it for my next play through.
And again, thanks for making our game better!
To balance it the martial bonus may be decreased down to +1 (as in the preceding mod) and the prestige bonus to some extent as well.
P.S.
A ruler dying in a battle should damage army morale as well, I'm not sure how it's actually handled in the game.

LMM (your mod)
I remember one of the mods on my list editing something about a commander having lower fertility, maybe that is why it's getting overwritten? If anyone else has similar mods and can use LMM, let me know! This mod looks like a lot of fun.
