For fellow Linux users that want to increase the max amount of heroes per faction: the file you're looking to be editing is called "defaultgamedata.ini" and can be found in the directory (Fedora 41, Steam installed as a Flatpak): com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/XCOM 2/share/data/xcom2-warofthechosen/xcomgame/config

I'm afraid I've never used LWotC. Also check out this guide:

@Dragon32
tyvm! i think i understand now. But i guess i will just use another mod for this because i dont want to have to mess with the game files every single time i change my modpack. Because you answered that quickly i assume you know wether LWOTC allows more than one faction soldier too?
This time i read the comments to make sure i dont ask common knowledge and i found this exact question but no answer.
(I have wanted to try long war again anyway now that i bought the monster hunter dlc from the recent sale)

@dr.dehaka
The path in the Description is very, very wrong. It's in your My Games folder, scroll down
dr.dehaka Jul 25, 2024 @ 5:34am
it is not creating a "XComGameData.ini" File. Only "Game", "Engine", "Editor" in the config folder...
Varric May 25, 2024 @ 7:12pm
Regarding Covert Infiltration, if you use CI you don't need this mod to get a second faction hero from all factions. If you want *more* than 2 per faction, you'll want More Factions Heroes Per Faction. Also, from the comments on MFHPF: "if running CI you don't need 'multiple heroes for all' to remove the 'first faction' restriction, as CI has this removed anyway."

Thanks, STRICE!
[FT] STRlCE - I use MnK Sep 4, 2023 @ 1:39pm
As stated above, to possibly gain more than two heroes per faction, you need to switch the number after "MaxHeroesPerFaction=" to the desired one in XComGameData.ini.
I found the file in User/Docs/My Games/XCOM2 War Of The Chosen/XComGame/Config.
It's line 2768 for me. What isn't mentioned here is whether you need to change it in the game directory or your main directory (e.g. (C:) and (F:), I'm assuming it's (C:)?
DukeBurger Aug 12, 2023 @ 7:22am
Does this work with covert Infiltration?
Mak Jun 7, 2023 @ 7:18am
@zin

Doesnt LWOTC already do this by default? Then again might be Mod jam since Im using that too but in my current campaign I got 2 of each hero.
zin Apr 3, 2023 @ 3:23am
Anyone had any luck with getting it to work with LWotC?
Inerael Mar 11, 2023 @ 4:06pm
hey , amazing thx . Was wondering if it works with long war ?
Chonsu Feb 22, 2023 @ 1:20pm
Any way to get this to work with Covert Infiltration? Would really love to us this mod (and Always Recruit and Rescue) at the same time as Covert Infiltraion.
tangqikong Jan 24, 2023 @ 12:21am
Does this module conflict with CI module?

@Sevro ᓵᒷ
If it's not in your My Games folder I don't know how you can play the game.

@Dragon32
I can't find any files named "XcomgameData.ini", help?
Tacty Aug 16, 2022 @ 7:36am
I hope this work with LWOTC
The_MatiP Jun 11, 2022 @ 3:12pm
Is there any way to make it so that the recruited heroes don't appear with the level of your top soldier? It kinda ruins the fun of growing your soldier.
ben.thomason1 Jun 1, 2022 @ 9:15pm
Nevermind, turns out that LWoTC has it's own XcomGameData folder, though even then I still can't get the man recruit faction sodlier covert op to show up.
ben.thomason1 Jun 1, 2022 @ 8:54pm
I don't have this mod, but I change the config number you meentioned to five, but I'm still not being offered the covert op to recruit more faction soldiers. What am I doing wrong? for what it's worth, I use LWoTC.
Dragon32 Dec 28, 2021 @ 6:37pm
@theSneakySnake
He means this one:
My Games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\Config\XComGameData.ini
theSneakySnake Dec 28, 2021 @ 11:59am
Don't actually see that config file. Am I searching the wrong folder?
Riekopo Dec 19, 2021 @ 1:01am
I have to wonder if this design was intentional or a mistake in the code? Does anyone know?
Soraku Fett Nov 21, 2021 @ 12:57pm
@Kokoa if you mess with the settings on a new playthrough and don't do the tutorial or Lost And Abandoned, you can start with different factions.
Brynhildr Sep 15, 2021 @ 11:17am
Seriously? I didn't even know you COULD meet the other factions first. I always thought you were locked into getting outrider then mox x.x That explains why I never was given the chance to get another skermisher or templar... Such a shame cause a Templar that manages to lift reaper and bladestorm off a ranger is beyond broken xD
XpanD Aug 26, 2021 @ 8:24am
Just finished a campaign with about 280 mods, this one included, and had no major issues! Thanks for making this.
Иваныч Mar 27, 2021 @ 1:51pm
The standard MakeSoldierAClass command actually works. I just entered "Reapers" incorrectly, I needed "Reaper". )
Dragon32 Mar 27, 2021 @ 3:33am
@The Last Eagle
Have you tried using "Starting Soldiers" so all your troops are Reapers?
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1147925885

Maybe "Additional Soldier Console Commands" could work too.
Иваныч Mar 27, 2021 @ 1:42am
I pass different challenges on XCOM 2 (https://youtu.be/J0Gj5upjg3Q) . Next time I want to complete the game with a squad that will only be Reapers. But I don't know how to get them right after the first mission. It doesn't work through the console like other classes. Please tell me what you need to do to change the class of the fighter to the reaper through the console?
MrCloista Feb 25, 2021 @ 4:01pm
I've just released this mod to make life simpler for those wanting to change the default max More Faction Heroes Per Faction
Praefectus Sep 27, 2020 @ 8:44am
Where can you find the time required to complete the recruit missions? I already raised the cap of heroes to 10, but would like to decrease the time required to recruit them.
kusoyang Sep 21, 2020 @ 1:11pm
I just wanna know, did this mod need to restart a new game?
Lûte the Goblin Sep 18, 2020 @ 6:22am
The folder mentioned in the description is actually:

Documents\My games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\Config

The filed you need to edit is actually XComGameData.ini

a_m_llano Jun 27, 2020 @ 6:26am
Somebody try this mod in LWOTC?
khumak Apr 17, 2020 @ 3:21pm
You're still dependent on the RNG to actually make the heroes available but I have had games with this mod where I got a 2nd of all 3 of the faction heroes. Haven't managed a 3rd so far but 2 of each is nice in any case.

Philadelphus Mar 18, 2020 @ 3:52pm
@Gleen Cross It's not required, I don't think, but it does make it guaranteed that you'll get those mission when they're available (which is what this mod does). It's possible you just got unlucky and they never randomly appeared without it.
Gleen Cross Mar 18, 2020 @ 7:23am
Oh, I didn't had the "Always recruit and rescue" mod installed, maybe that's why I can't recruit the second templar? This "Always recruit and rescue" mod is required to make this one works?
Gleen Cross Mar 18, 2020 @ 7:21am
Well, I am at the endgame now and I only got 1 extra reaper and 1 skirmisher. Started a normal game, tutorial, Mox and the other chick, etc.. I am constantly making templar missions, but the extra templar never unlocks. Maybe it's a bug on my end? I will try to edit the the .ini file later (raise the number to 3 per faction), see if it changes anything.
All talk and no fight Feb 27, 2020 @ 7:08pm
Oh hey, forgot I even left a comment here. In my now last playthrough, the one i said i was going to do i did indeed get 2 faction heroes from each, although i just waited until both covert action recruit missions for the other 2 factions were available at the same time than took them both.
That ended up being a little better because low level faction heroes with no abilities makes me sad!
Zelandia Feb 27, 2020 @ 7:00pm
@All talk and no fight: If you just want to have 2 heroes for each faction, you don't have to edit any ini files as that is the default value for the MaxHeroesPerFaction string. You will for sure get at least 2 heroes per faction.

I can confirm that what [DBH]*Whismerhill*{SSgt} posted is how this mod works for all 5 of my playthroughs with this mod enabled.
All talk and no fight Feb 11, 2020 @ 11:18pm
in my previous playthrough I got 2 reapers, 1 skirmisher, and 2 templars. I started at reaper hq. was happy to have a 2nd templar, do i need to edit the ini or something to make sure i get a 2nd skirmisher to?
im gonna do another playthrough but starting off at skirmisher hq, i just want to have 2 of each hero
Philadelphus Jan 31, 2020 @ 3:37pm
Yep, that was exactly my experience over two games. It's not so noticeable with the game's default of 2, but if you increase it beyond that it starts getting pretty obvious.
[DBH].Whismerhill.{SSgt} Jan 31, 2020 @ 2:48pm
Ok so this mod works!
I used both this mod + the mod "Always recruit and rescue" otherwise recruitment options didn't pop up (due to random draws I suppose)

however from my limited experience (need confirmation ?
it seems like faction heroes are done "in order"
if "MaxHeroesPerFaction" is increased

it sounds like the game will fill up first whatever's the first faction you met, then 2nd faction then 3rd faction and so on....

e.g. you won't get like :
- a reaper, a skirmisher, a templar & cycle all over
it looks like the game will try to do that instead :
-fill up all your reapers until MaxHeroesPerFaction is met
-fill up all your skirmishers until MaxHeroesPerFaction
-and finally for your templars

(this is IF the order is reapers, skirmishers and templars)

However this is only from my limited experience, I haven't run hundreds of games to verify this, so feel free to jump in...
Punful Guy Jan 11, 2020 @ 12:14am
@Charlemagne Works for me, two for each faction
Charlemagne Dec 15, 2019 @ 5:32pm
This mod was working just fine and then it wasn't. I'm no longer getting the second recruit from factions except the starting one, as in vanilla.
Philadelphus Oct 5, 2019 @ 7:14pm
@ Mastermind: Yes. You can increase that number by using the method mentioned at the end of the description, though I noticed when I increased it to 3 that it seemed to want to give me the recruit option for all heroes of a single faction before moving on to the next faction and so on. So I'd suggest leaving it at 2 until you have two of each, then increase it by 1 and get an additional one of each, repeating until you have your desire number.
Medicman Sep 1, 2019 @ 4:38am
So by default this allows us to have two heroes from each faction?
Clusiv Aug 12, 2019 @ 1:28pm
I'm kinda glad you explained how that system works because I always wondered why I never got a second hero from the Skirmishers or Templars. Thought that maybe it had something to do with how many heroes I have in my barracks at any particular time
