Update: Jul 22, 2021 @ 10:39am

  • Sharply reduced supply in certain deserts, tropical jungle areas and himalayan mountains. Crossing the Sahara or fighting a war in Tropical Africa is now a very bad idea if you lack supply-boosting modifiers (such as those granted by mil-tech).

  • Ideology now affects relations between nations. Nations of the same ideology gain positive relations, nations of opposing ideology suffer a relations penalty.

  • New ideologies now spawn more dynamically and randomly. They'll first spawn in a random country that fulfills relevant conditions, based on embraced institutions and government type.

  • Slightly overhauled the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The peace deal no longer adds Mexico to the American Sphere of Influence, nor does it remove Mexican cores on the ceded land. Instead, an event will fire after peace is signed where the US can decide to compensate Mexico monetarily in return for better relations and removal of cores.

  • Added a new GUI element for the Army Professionalism menu containing information regarding the different bonuses ETF adds to Army Professionalism.

  • Added two new Army Professionalism bonuses unlockable with mil tech: Gas Attack and General Staff.

  • Added unique National Ideas for the Kuomintang.

  • Taiwan is now represented using the Kuomintang tag in Modern bookmarks. The country is still called Taiwan.

  • Edited decision to Form China as Taiwan to fit the changes made to the country.

  • Added decision for the PRC to turn Taiwan into a S.A.R if sphered.

  • If Pakistani cores exist in India, upon granting India autonomy as a Dominion you'll be given the option to also release Pakistan as a Dominion.

  • If India controls Burma, it will be ceded to the overlord upon granting Dominion status.

  • Malaya, Yemen, Arabia and the Raj now update their name upon changing overlord.

  • Fixed an issue regarding parliaments and reforms for players without the Common Sense DLC.

  • Changes made to history files to significantly reduce required upkeep. Some issues may arise while I'm sorting this out.

Update: Jul 10, 2021 @ 6:37am

  • Updated for compatibility with latest ET patch.

  • Triggered Age modifiers and Army Prof. bonuses now only apply to Western/Westernized nations.

  • 1836, Finland now starts of in a Personal Union with Russia, as opposed to being directly part of Russia.

  • France no longer uses the modern tricolor (or the FR2 tag) in 1836.

  • Overhauled "Revolutions of 1848" event for France: falling to the revolution now changes the tag from FRA > FR2, adopting the Modern flag in the process.

  • Some countries now change tag dependent of their ideology. Upon enacting certain ideology Government Reforms, an event will fire that changes their tags and ideas to ones more relevant to that ideology.

  • Peace options to install a Communist/Fascist Government in another nation now works properly. These now also add the target nation to your sphere of influence.

  • Removed some rules applied during Great Wars. Secondary participants can now peace out whenever they want, also removed the warscore requirement for signing peace.

  • Decreased AI willingness to accept peace during Great Wars significantly.

  • Added some minor Colonial Treaty peace options.

  • Added an event for the End of the Chinese Civil War.

  • The Chinese Revolution disaster now also adds cores for Chinese city-state tags in Treaty ports.

  • Overhauled decision to release the Raj. "The Raj" is now a new tag that changes its name based on the tag of its overlord. If the Raj is released by Germany, the resulting colony's name would be "German Raj".

  • Improved AI use of the Raj.

  • Similarly to the Raj, decisions to centralize Malaysia, Yemen and Arabia now likewise rename the resulting colony to "(Overlord Adjective) Malaya", for example.

  • Added minor flavor to the Zapatistas.

Update: Jun 29, 2021 @ 5:54am

  • Updated for compatibility with version 1.31.5, compatibility with older version shouldn't be affected.

  • The German Confederation no longer uses HRE mechanics, as this (understandably) confused some players and was overall too underdeveloped. Wars between GC states is still prevented until the Confederation dissolves.

  • Significantly overhauled and simplified the events leading up to the Second Schleswig War.

  • Rewrote code for Unify Germany/Italy decisions. Removed requirement for Nationalism to have spawned, meaning these decisions are now available as early as the start of the Industrial Age.

  • Added new Chinese tags: Mengjiang, Xingjiang, Kuomintang, Taiping and Yunnan. Cores for these nations appear through events or in certain bookmarks.

  • Fixed an issue that prevented certain peace options from appearing.

  • Added "Add to Sphere" peace option, available if the target nation isn't a Great Power and Age is Industrial age or later.

  • Added "Prohibit Raiding" peace option, available if the target nation has Raiding in their national ideas and Age is Industrial age or later. Enforcing it prevents the targeted nation from Raiding coastlines.

  • The "Enforce Treaty" Casus Belli is now used for several historical conflicts; the Oriental Crisis, Second Schleswig War, American Civil War.

  • Added several unique "Treaty" peace options, available during the above mentioned wars. These appear near the top of the 'Treaties' tab with text colored yellow.

  • Decision and event based peace treaties have been removed entirely in favor of the previously mentioned Treaty peace options.

  • Removed German Nationalism and Italian Nationalism Casus Bellis due to redundancy.

  • Overhauled Estate land distribution in different start dates, increased starting Crownland in later startdates to 50%.

  • Overhauled conditions for selecting certain Government reforms, the requirments should now be more clear.

  • Added localized names for many countries Parliaments.

  • Added credits.txt file.

Update: Jun 12, 2021 @ 8:05am

  • Updated the mod for the latest ET patch.

Update: Jun 10, 2021 @ 5:30am

  • Significantly overhauled AI colonization behaviour. If starting in 1836 or later, AI nations will try to colonize regions that they historically occupied. Britain will colonize Nigeria, France will colonize Gabon, Germany will colonize Namibia, etc. Player nations are still free to colonize however they want.

  • Added Jingoism. Revolutionary Zeal has been renamed "Jingoism", and is now used by most modern governments replacing Absolutism. Jingoism represents your peoples desire for war, something of great importance to a representative government. Nations with 0 Jingoism are unable to declare war while nations with high Jingoism recieve strong bonuses. Revolutionary/Extremist ideologies boost Jingoism. This particular feature requires the Emperor DLC.

  • Reduced the amount of pop-ups on game start.

  • Fixed an issue where many diplomatic actions weren't visible.

  • Faction-Allies no longer join wars automatically. Spheres and Faction-Allies can now be called into wars using a diplomatic action, which the AI may either accept or deny just like a regular call to arms.

  • When a sphered nation falls to revolutionary rebels it will now become independent. The former overlord will recieve an event where they can either re-enforce their influnce via war or attempt to salvage relations. This means that sphere-leaders will have to protect their spherelings from rebels more proactively.

  • Added icons for modifiers affecting Political Party influence.

  • Added descriptions to several modifiers, containing explainations and context for modifiers and gameplay mechanics.

  • Added an event chain for the Boer wars.

  • Added an event for the collapse of the Central American Republic.

  • Added many more minor events.

  • Highways and Railroads now reduces local construction time. A province containing both a Highway and Railroad gets -50% construction time, halving the time it takes to construct buildings. Bonuses to construction time in triggered modifiers have been removed.

  • Added some new government names.

  • Changed some government reforms.

  • Improved and bugfixed code for many election events, no longer will you get spammed with events when a dictator dies.

  • Disabled some archaic Christian religious decisions in later ages.

  • Improved and bugfixed 'Centralize Colony' decisions.

  • Decision to Outlaw Raiding can now be selected by any nation with Raiding in their National Ideas, this was previously limited to certain tags.

  • Added some minor new flavor decisions for a couple different countries.

  • Changed some missions.

Known issue with this patch: The American Civil War lags the game, causing short freezes every other month or so. The cause for this is unknown but it only lasts during the civil war and stops once it's over.

Update: May 22, 2021 @ 10:06am

  • Added localization to certain Military technologies, highlighting which ones give additions to Army Professionalism modifiers.

  • Fixed an issue where monarchy election reforms couldn't be selected without the Common Sense DLC.

  • Fixed issues where some events would fire at inappropriate moments, such as while at war.

  • Political parties now passively gain or lose influence for a variety of different reasons. The Conservative party gains influence while having high stability and legitimacy, Nationalists gain influence while being at war, extremists (Communists and Fascists) gain influence while having high revanchism or being bankrupt, etc, etc.

  • Reduced the frequency of the Doctrine of Lapse. When an heir-less Indian ruler dies there's a 50/50 chance of the event firing as opposed to 100%.

  • Updated some mission trees which had broken after 1.31, sorry for taking so long to notice. Unfortunately, the Russian mission tree remains broken for some reason.

  • Removed German "focus tree" decisions during the Interwar period. These have been replaced with a mission tree, which functions much more similarly to that of an actual focus tree. These missions can be found at the bottom of the German mission tree.

  • Doubled cost to fabricate claims in later ages. The duration of temporary claims has also been reduced to 2 years. This is meant to reduce the frequency of small conflicts between fellow imperalists, instead directing their attention to imperialism abroad or Great Wars at home.

  • Disabled religious CB's in later ages, for similar reasons as mentioned above.

  • Released nations/vassals now adopt the ideology of their liberator/overlord.

  • Cleaned up some code behind subjects and diplomatic actions. Also replaced some decisions with new diplomatic actions. (Note: I've ran into some issues with diplomatic actions while testing these, sometimes they don't show up at all. I'm trying to figure out what causes it.)

  • Simplified conditions for German unification decisions.

  • Added a Swiss culture group, distinct from the German group. Swiss-German, Swiss-French and Swiss-Italian are now unique cultures which appear in startdates post-1800.

  • The Boer republics now spawn closer to 1850, and become British vassals upon spawning.

  • Made the Mexican-American War easier to win. Forts have been added to provinces across Texas/northern Mexico, meaning warscore can be gained quicker and more easily. Also added the Bear Flag revolt event, an event where occupation of California is automatically ceded to the US due to rebels.

  • Made stackwiping slightly easier.

Update: May 17, 2021 @ 6:35am

  • Added start texts for; Great Britain, United States, Prussia, Austria, Russia and the Ottomans to the 1836 startdate.

  • Added North Germany and South Germany tags, these are now formable via their respective decision during the Germany unification process.

  • After Nationalism is discovered an event can fire where certain nations can annex Sphere members sharing their culture, for example; France can annex french-cultured spheres.

  • You can now more easily sphere large nations lacking the Imperialism Institution. Normally you're only able to sphere nations with less than 400 dev, but if they lack Imperialism you may now sphere them if their dev is up to 1000.

  • Rearranged some borders in North America. Changed some Texan cores to be claims instead.

  • Colonies made by secular nations no longer become irreligious/secular, these instead adopt the religion of your capital province.

  • Rulers of "secular" faith will be converted to either the capitals religion, or irreligious.

  • 1444 government reforms are now automatically added to nations that lack them on startup, if playing on later startdates.

  • Small updates to the Boshin War event chain. Improved stability and added some flavor to the Shogun path.

  • Military buffs previously added via triggered modifiers are now applied through the Army Professionalism system instead. Nations with high enough Mil-tech will recieve buffs to movement speed, siege ability, etc. automatically as a bonus from Army Professionalism. If Cradle of Civilization isn't installed, these modifiers remain tied to triggered modifiers.

  • Decreased province governing cost in later ages, reducing AI vassal spam.

  • Fixed an issue where Austria was called "Austria-Hungary" in modern day.

  • Expanded the country naming system. A couple more countries now have custom names based on ideology. Dominions now also adopt special names upon being established.

  • Changed some AI behaviour.

  • Removed Britain from the EU in startdates after 2021.1.1.

  • Updated some country flags. Colombia, Venezuela and Haiti now have more relevant flags. Made the flags of Slovakia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Bosnia more centered around their respective national emblems. Gave Siam, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy and Spain their modern day flags, these last ones may be subject to change.

  • Bugfixes for 1848-disaster.

Update: May 8, 2021 @ 4:06am

  • Updated the mod for compatibility with the latest ET patch

  • Added 'Treaty War' casus belli, a CB used to enforce historical treaties. Currently it's only used during the Mexican-American war event chain.

  • Reduced autonomy in trade companies/territories late game. This was done to make "tall" colonial empires like the Netherlands less weak

  • Simplified conditions for the 1848 Revolutions disaster

  • Updated icon for Sphere subjects, replacing it with an old icon found in the game files

  • Fixed some bugs relating to election events

  • Updated some localization

I also want to mention that there is currently a bug in EU4 where events randomly won't show up. This is of course a big problem for this mod, as it is quite event heavy, making it far more likely to break in the current patch. There isn't anything I can do about it, unfortunately.
For those who wish to have a more bug-free experiance, I've uploaded an older version of the mod compatible with 1.30. Links to it can be found on the main Steamworkshop page.

Update: May 2, 2021 @ 7:08am

I decided to update the mod anyway, even though EU4 currently is quite broken. Unfortunately, some issues currently present in the base game leak into Extended Timeline, which can't really be fixed via mods. Performance in this patch is also quite bad, which I apologise for.

  • Updated the mod for version 1.31 + Leviathan. This transition is somewhat rough, as ET saw a pretty big update to its province id's. I warn you that issues might be more common.

  • Disabled Nuclear Attack decision, as this is now a base ET feature

  • You can no longer concentrate development from provinces owned by: Faction-Allies, Spheres, Dominions, Associated States or Autonomous States.

  • Added Texas to the 1836 startdate, events and decisions relating to Manifest Destiny have also been made more tied to existing Texas flavor events from base ET.

  • Removed tribal land from American, Mexican and Canadian provinces across startdates

  • Disabled Piracy events after 1750+, no more Golden Age of Piracy and Pirate republics spawning in the Modern day.

  • Disabled First Circumnavigation event in later startdates

  • Slightly modified the way CB's work. Imperialism CB is now unlocked by having the imperialism institution and can only be used against nations without imperialism, this modified default CB replaces the old "Victorian Imperialism" CB in previous versions of the mod.

  • Cleaned up a bit of code relating to government reforms and elections. There is currently a bug, where Dominions don't have elections, which is an issue I've been unable to fix.

  • Added the Doctrine of Lapse, a system where Indian princely states are annexed by Great Britain if their ruler dies without an heir. It's currently a bit flawed, as some Indian rulers are 1000+ years old due to some bug or oversight (I don't know) meaning that the event to annex triggers quite often.

  • Modern day China is no longer a revolutionary nation with an all-red flag. The PRC is now its own seperate tag, replacing China(CHN) from 1949 and onwards

  • Modern day Germany now uses the West German tag (WGE), modern day Vietnam now uses the North Vietnam tag (NVI)

  • Added Hongkong and Macau tags, these are "associated state" subjects to China.

  • Added leaders for autonomous state tags added in a previous patch

  • Relocated Donetsk and Luhansk to more accurate locations, these where way off in the previous patch

  • Added Dominion government reforms to nations that historically had such governments

  • Added a flag icon for Socialist Rebels

Update: Apr 21, 2021 @ 10:33am

I wanted to get this update out before 1.31, so sorry if it ends up being a tad bit rushed.
Once 1.31 drops this mod will likely become incompatible for users running the new version. Given the mod's reliance on Extended Timeline, it will also take a while for me to update it as Extended Timeline would have to be updated first.
Users who wish to keep playing will of course be able to do so by simply rolling back the version. In the meantime, here's some new stuff I've been working on:

  • Added Boer culture, replacing Dutch culture in South Africa

  • Almost completely reworked late-game reforms for monarchies. These are now more focused on parliaments, electorate and the monarchs role in a constitutional monarchy. The AI will pick 'reform-routes' based on its absolutism, with more absolute monarchs seeking more absolute reforms. (These changes to reforms MIGHT break existing save files, so I recommend starting anew or expecting some minor issues)

  • Added decisions for nations with the ability to Raid to change their idea group and disable raiding.

  • Added proper icons for all Casus Bellis added by this mod.

  • Added 'Autonomous States', a new subject type representing semi-sovereign nations in the modern day. A bunch of countries, regions and/or rebel territories have been turned into this kind of subject.

  • Updated some subject icons, including a return of the old Protectorate icon that existed in past versions of EU4.

  • Added historical events for establishing Dominions. Countries with colonial nations in Canada, Australia, etc. will now have events between 1860-1950 where they can choose to grant further autonomy to CN's as dominions.

  • Added some minor events

  • Events announcing nuclear attacks now only display for nations in the same war, or allied to war participants, reducing spam.

  • Cleaned up A LOT of code in the History files, cores should now be more sensibly placed at the right time and place (in late-game bookmarks). A bunch of releasable nations now have cores on Austrias land in 1836, for example.

  • Changed the religion of some provinces in Norway and Sweden to irreligious in the modern day period.

  • Bugs fixed
