Changes:

  • Added new terrain modifiers to 00_terrain file (thx 知音大姐李东宝).

Combat is fixed. Land and naval terrain modifiers are handled by the same 00_terrain file. The Barbarossa update adds attrition, adds combat_width, combat_width_support, supply_flow_penalty_factors,and truck_attrition_factors modifiers.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Upcoming changes
  • Added light escort carrier hulls.
  • Fixed bug where submarine medium battery 3 could not be upgraded from submarine medium battery 1 (thx Wags)
  • Fixed bug where ship anti air 5 battery could not be converted from ship anti air battery 4 (thx Wags)
  • Fixed bug where ship fire control system 5 could not be upgraded from ship fire control system 4 (thx wags)
  • Fixed bug where game crashes when AI attempt's to use carrier submarines or cruisers. The fix removes second designation for the ships leaving them as only carriers. This will complicate the use submarine carriers as they lose their sub-surface abilities. Working on a more appropriate fix for this issue (thx Wags)

Escort Aircraft Carrier (escort carrier) - Is a slow, lightly armored aircraft carrier with minimal defensive armaments capable of carrying roughly 20 aircraft. This carrier type mainly saw service in the United States, British and Japanese navies. Art work done by 电灯弗里曼 (Author of: Lamp's Eqpt Icons)

T2 Tanker (refueler) - Is a very slow, unarmored and unarmed fueling ship that extends the range of any fleet it is a part of. Fleet range is determined by the average range of the ships it is comprised of. Adding a couple ships with extreme ranges will somewhat raise that average. The tanker will have a basic engine module slot (new engine modules built for cargo ships) and several extra fuel modules to allow some customization. This art is also done by 电灯弗里曼 (Author of: Lamp's Eqpt Icons)

Tier 3/4 Flight-deck Cruiser - The additions of Flight-Deck Cruisers III & IV completes the CF designation line. These introduce a unique ship type that has a center main flight deck and modular options to extend it fore and aft. The flight decks are divided into three sections with the first section being static/required and fore/aft sections offering options to be replaced with gun batteries. An additional light/medium battery is located forward of the super-structure similar to the USS North Logan CVE(A)-26, with options to exchange it for additional AA batteries or carrier aircraft (similar to the tier 2). The tier IV variant has an additional module slot just aft of the superstructure with several battery options and a new seaplane tender module which acts similarly to the seaplane launcher, but is designed for carriers. Historically, carriers acted as seaplane tenders as well as carry normal aircraft before reconnaissance shifted to non-float equipped air frames.

Incidental Reconnaissance - Is a concept introduced by Licarious in his Battle Carrier Ise mod where aircraft provide some reconnaissance while flying between their ship and patrol areas. To reflect this, each hanger slot assigned to a flight deck module adds a small surface and sub detection bonus to the ship.

Recovery Crane modules - Similar to the airplane catapult, recovery crane are designed to work on the new flight deck cruiser and eventually battle carrier ship types. The loss of four carrier aircraft slots represents housing four notional float planes to carry out reconnaissance. When equipped, a carrier swaps four of its mission aircraft for additional surface and sub detection bonuses. The bonuses are somewhat less that standard catapults to adjust for the incidental reconnaissance bonuses of the four replaced carrier aircraft.

Super-Yamato class Battleship (Super-heavy battleship II) - The A-150s was a planned class of battleships for the Imperial Japanese Navy first conceived in 1941. In keeping with the Navy's long tradition, they were designed to be qualitatively superior to battleships that they might have faced in battle, such as those from the United States or Great Britain. The design called for a main battery of six 45-caliber 51-centimeter guns in three twin turrets. These would have been the largest ever fitted to a capital ship, dwarfing the 46-centimeter guns mounted on the Yamato class. The displacement was to be similar to the Yamato class, which was around 70,000 metric tons (69,000 long tons). The belt armor is estimated to be 45.7 centimetres (18 in) thick, though this was outside the capability of Japanese steel mills at the time. Two A-150s were allocated in a 1942 building program and would have been finished in 1946-1947, but were cancelled when all design work on battleships was redirected to aircraft carriers and cruisers in early 1941.

In this mod, the super-heavy battle occupies the 1940 battleship subtech slot. it's production cost when fully kitted can exceed 35,000 shipyard units, requiring significant commitment on the part of a nation wishing to build it. In addition to a intermediate super-heavy battery, this patch also introduces conning tower and observer_mast modules.

Observer Mast Is a new module that occupies the zero tech radar module slot. The masts were raised platforms for visual observers and fire control equipment, elevated up above the main hull for visibility and to reduce the risk of shell damage to the gear and crews. In this mod, the mast offers a low-cost module with minimal surface and sub surface spotting bonuses until radar tech is researched.

Conning tower - These have been a common feature on battleships and armored cruisers since the 1860s. Located at the front end of the superstructure, the conning tower was a heavily armored cylinder, with tiny slit windows on three sides providing a reasonable field of view. This reduces risk of to ship command giving them a secure area from which to direct ship operations. In this mod, conning tower modules offer an organizational bonus while reducing max speed due to increased weight. Though it was common on many ship-types of the era, it is only available on the SHBB II for the moment.

Update: Oct 18, 2020 @ 7:11am

Hotfix to the hotfix

Changes:

  • Removed legacy submarine cruiser
  • Removed nuclear tech test file (thx dnichols & EightBitGuy06)

On August 4th, the legacy submarine cruiser II was replaced with an updated version that uses a separate file. This allowed the new cruiser submarine II to support naval invasions with shore bombardments when medium batteries are installed whereas the original could not. The legacy code was left in place as to not impact saved games that might be using it. Since the HOI4 v1.10.1 patch essentially breaks saved games, it seems now is a good time to finally remove the old code.

The nuclear tech test was unrelated to mtg-x and doesn't reflect future plans for this mod.

Update: Oct 15, 2020 @ 8:02am

Hot fix to correct an error.

Changes

  • Updated to HOI4 version 1.10.1

Amateur hour here.

Update: Oct 15, 2020 @ 7:43am

Changes:

  • HOI4 version 10.1
  • Added AI templates for the new flight deck cruisers
  • Updated CF II naval combat icon to accurately reflect actual ship
  • Fixed ship naming error that caused national ship prefixes to appear twice
  • Increased submarine Carrier plane capacity to 4
Submarine carrier plane capacity - The AI use a 50/50 split between fighters and naval bombers when they are assigning aircraft to carriers. On ships with an odd number of aircraft slots, the Ai will ignore the last slot when assigning aircraft. For example, the AI will only assign one fighter and one naval bomber to a aircraft carrier with an aircraft capacity of three, leaving the third slot vacant. To avoid this issue, the submarine carrier's aircraft capacity is increased from three to four.

Update: Aug 22, 2020 @ 12:12pm

Changes:

  • Added Flight-Deck Cruiser tiers 1 and 2
  • Added cruiser and heavy dazzle camo modules
  • Added submarine carrier production description (thx caksz)
  • Re-added icon for legacy submarine cruiser II (thx lordfil)
  • Added Pre-Dreadnought Hull sub-technology to Early Heavy Ship Hull (1922) tech
  • Added research buffs to coastal defense ships
  • Added hit point and carrier_size penalties to cruiser hull downgrade modules

The flight-deck cruiser was a proposed type of aircraft cruiser, warships combining features of aircraft carriers and light cruisers designed by the United States Navy during the period between World War I and World War II. Early versions consisted of conventional cruisers with their aft decks converted. The first USN plans for a ground up build of an experimental ship was drafted in 1930 by Admiral William A. Moffett. Described as "a Brooklyn-class light cruiser forwards [and] one half of a Wasp-class aircraft carrier aft",it featured an early version of the angled deck that would in the 1950s be adopted for use by fleet carriers.

The flight deck cruiser and battleship carrier ship designer menu in this mod follow a similar flow. Early versions (tier 1) will look almost identical to their vanilla counterparts except with the additional module option for an aft flight deck. Tier 2 versions has a more radical design for each consisting of a much larger flight deck that dominates the central and aft portions of these ships while maintaining their forward armament (this is historically accurate). Tiers 3 and 4 (1940 & 1944) has a central flight deck with modular fore and aft armaments that can be exchanged for deck extensions. This allows tier 3 and 4 flight deck cruisers to be converted into light carriers. Similarly tiered battleship carriers have the same fore and aft deck extension modular options, but retain their fixed forward battery.

Implementing the new ships:
I'm concerned with over-burdening the naval tech tree to a point of throwing off the overall game balance. After all, energy spent unlocking the new ships and modules is at the expense of other branches forcing some hard decisions. So the way flight deck cruisers and eventually, battleship carriers will be unlocked is with a single sub-tech in the first cruiser and battleship tier. This acts as a commitment to adopt flight deck cruisers or battleship carriers as a part of the flight doctrine. Further flight deck cruiser and battleship carrier tiers will be unlocked automatically with a combination of the standard cruiser or battleship and carrier research. For example, tier 2 (1936) flight deck cruiser will be automatically unlocked when the 1936 cruiser AND the 1922 carrier ships are researched. So in a sense, part of vanilla battleship, cruiser and carrier research efforts directed at these new hulls.

Dazzle camouflage is a disruptive camouflage developed during WWI consisting of complex patterns of geometric shapes in contrasting colors, interrupting and intersecting each other intended to obscure the ship's heading, disorientating enemy attempts to target it. Gauging its effectiveness was at best mixed due to the many factors that were involved.
HOI4 uses the reliability stat to determine the probability of receiving a critical hit so MTG-X's dazzle camouflage module boosts that stat while also increasing surface visibility as a penalty since any ship donning the camouflage is so conspicuous.

The Pre-Dreadnought is hardly worthy of the tech tree, but it fills the 1922 slot allowing the yet to be released battleship carrier tech to be displayed.

School is starting for me so I have to take a break from modding. Hope everyone is digging it!

Update: Aug 13, 2020 @ 10:34pm

Changes:

  • Added submersible heavy battery module to the cruiser submarine I.
  • Coastal defense ship, panzerschiff and torpedo cruiser subtechs now display when unlocked by other means to prevent duplication of research. (thx, Burner345-BR)
  • Rebalanced stats for all submersible batteries, aircraft launchers and deck space
  • Added submarine_dp_light_battery localization
  • Added large cruiser (CB) to the 1944 sub tech slot
  • Added country specific ship names for cruiser and carrier submarines
The 30.5 cm Mark IX is a short barreled heavy cannon originally used on Formidable-class battleships that saw service on British M-class submarines in the 1920s. In-game, the unique historical heavy and medium batteries are only available on submarine cruiser I's due to their large size.

Rebalancing has been a tedious process involving assigning values that make sense while attempting to not conflict with vanilla values. It's challenging as a number of the vanilla stats simply do not make sense (why do anti aircraft batteries have an anti_air_attack addition AND multiplier? So these are the values that seem most logical You'll note that Lt, med, hvy battery attack values are reduced since you have fewer and short barrels on submarines. They cost a bit more since adopting any weapon system for submarine use is an involved process. The surface and sub visibility values reflect the module size compared to the conning tower (surface) or the overall submarine (sub).

The Cruiser V (CB) added to the first 1944 cruiser sub-tech slot partially modeled after the U.S. Alaska Class cruiser which was designed as a cruiser killer in response to the Panzerschiff and similar heavily armed cruisers. It fills a niche between heavy cruisers and battle cruisers with more module slots and the ability to be equipped with heavy batteries. The CB designation is also unique to the Alaska class. Ingame, the large heavy cruiser icons will display the CB designation, but the on-map icons will still display the general CA designation for all heavy cruisers since there is no mechanic to create individual small ship icon.

One issue with this update I was unable to resolve was displaying the heavy cruiser icon for the new large cruiser in the tech tree. As of this patch, the light cruiser icon is displayed with a rather mismatched description for a large (heavy) cruiser. Light and heavy cruisers are actually one ship type that uses the same file. The ship class switches to light or heavy dependent on whether a capital rated battery module (medium or heavy) is installed. You'll note that the vanilla tech tree displays a light cruiser icon in the 1922 tech and heavy cruiser icons in the 1936-1944 techs. Light cruiser icons appear to be the default and i'm yet to discover what directs the heavy cruiser icon to be displayed. If anyone has insight on this, i'd be in your dept.

Update: Aug 4, 2020 @ 6:47am

Changes:

  • Added cruiser submarine Surcouf. This replaces the vanilla cruiser submarine in the technology tree, but the vanilla cruiser submarine can still be accessed through French nat'l focus
  • Added submarine heavy cruiser class. Submarine cruisers convert to heavy class and are capable of supporting naval invasions with shore bombardments when medium batteries are installed
  • Updated naval_combat, small_ship and technology ship icons (took too long to figure this part out)
  • Expanded naval production filter GUI to handle more than eight ship classes
  • Added German Panzerschiff localization to pocket battleship equipment
  • Added lots of initial code for cruiser carriers and battleship carriers to be released in future updates.

Surcouf [syʁ.kuf] was a large French gun-armed cruiser submarine of the mid 20th century. She carried two 203 mm guns as well as anti-aircraft guns and (for most of her career) a float plane. Surcouf served in the French Navy and, later, the Free French Naval Forces during the Second World War.

This version of the Surcouf adds a number of new module options that are consistent with the historical submarine. This includes the float plane hanger previously introduced with the cruiser submarine II and a new medium submersible gun module.

This patch replaces the vanilla cruiser sub and the cruiser sub II to allow use of unique production and naval combat icons. The new cruiser submarine I (Surcouf) as well as the cruiser submarine II now can support naval invasions with shore bombardments when medium batteries are installed. The original surcouf can be accessed through the vanilla French Nat'l focus tree.

*Note: this patch will impact saved games as cruiser submarine files had to be restructured to make combat icons work. Old cruiser submarines will still work, but their gfx files will no longer display.
