Version is 2.0.1
  • Forgot to check to make sure no files were in the mod folder that shouldn't be. Rookie stupid newb mistake. This update resolves that. It wouldn't have done anything bad in the short term, but could have caused mod incompatibilities and other issues with official patches.

Version is 2.0.0
  • Update to sync compatibility with several mods

Javelin Improved is part of a community wide effort to try and create workshop wide compatibility with any mod that adds in new Weapon Combo Types. This mod is part of this group because of the unique characteristics necessary for the Venom Javelin to exist.

  • Changed Blunted Javelin to be in-line with the new vanilla settings damage wise.

  • Adjusted stamina costs of heavy attacks to be more in line with new vanilla ranges.

  • Lowered stamina costs very slightly on light attacks.

  • Other balance changes I don't remember anymore

Have I mentioned how much I hate balance stuff? Sigh.....

  • Cleaned up the icons a lot. Should look nicer now.

  • New Legendary Venom Javelin

Custom made by using various meshes and heavily modifying them. This can be found via the same methods as vanilla Venom weapons. This weapon cannot be thrown, instead I customized it to allow it to be modded with weapon kits. It also has a unique heavy attack chain when used by itself.

  • Adjusted the "ink" of weapon trails to be in line with what they are supposed to be under vanilla conditions. Red is supposed to signify bleed, yellow is cripple, etc. Many of my animations were just vanilla versions and I didn't account for that. That's been fixed.

  • New Legendary Ancient Lemurian Javelin

Unlike the other Ancient Lemurian weapons, I gave it a bonus so that it's more useful to use. This weapon can be found somewhere in the same location as the other Ancient Lemurian weapons. This weapon was made because of a player suggestion on wanting to throw Tridents. Considered that request, fulfilled! (As always, keep those suggestions and feedback coming)

  • New Legendary Spectral Javelin

This one was fun to make. It has infinite throwing and has high damage with that throwing. But it comes at a cost of high stamina, and low overall durability. Can be found via the same steps necessary to acquire the Ghast Weapons.

  • Updated some Riptide stuff in it's description (to match Vanilla), and gave it a fun particle effect where it explodes a volume of water when thrown (it's just a particle effect). Couldn't get the sound mechanic to work that I wanted to go along with it. Going to keep working on it for the next update.

  • Update to sync compatibility with a few mods

Javelin Improved is part of a community wide effort to try and create workshop wide compatibility with any mod that adds in new Weapon Combo Types. This mod is part of this group because of the unique characteristics I've added to Riptide (and possibly future other unique Javelins in the future).

  • Minor optimizations

Learned a new trick with Icons that helps improve performance a smidge, so did that.

  • Gave the unique T4 Armorer Thralls from this mod a combat animation boost, which gives them more variety in their combat rotations.

Update: May 4, 2019 @ 1:40am

  • Minor update to sync up compatibility with the Emberlight Mod.

Emberlight is just one mod in a community effort to try and create workshop wide compatibility with any mod that adds in new Weapon Combo Types. Javelin Improved is part of this group because of the unique characteristics of Riptide added by the mod.

Update: Apr 23, 2019 @ 4:03pm

I meant to get this out way sooner to match the Riptide Exile Lands Improved damage update, but such is mod author life and having to take care of lots of mods heh heh.

  • This update is focused on giving life to the Riptide Javelin Legendary Weapon

  • Damage changed to 63, this matches the buff found in Exile Lands Improved

  • Added a 10% stamina bonus when equipped. I wanted to give Riptide some sort of very modest land benifit to use the Javelin and make it legendary, this is what we came up with that was doable.

    Background

Where I came up with the stamina bonus was I originally wanted to make Riptide make it so you never had to drink water when you had it equipped. Well, that isn't possible to mod, so then I tried to make it so you gained the "refreshed" buff (which is a 5% bonus to stamina at vanilla settings) on equip. That doesn't stack with taking a drink of water and feeling refreshed, so we came up with the flat 10% bonus. For funsies, I modified the item description for Riptide a bit to reflect that change.

  • The Vanilla Riptide just re-uses the existing Hardened Steel Javelin static mesh. Nothing Legendary about it, so I wanted to change that.

I gave it a unique mesh instead with a neat water particle effect, both when unequipped (on display), or when equipped and using it. If you want a preview of this change, I posted a very short Youtube link to give you the basics.

    Background

If you want to know a bit more of my process, those of you with sharp eyes will notice that I used the Start Metal Javelin as a "starting point." From there, I just used my imagination and tried different things. This was a good practice for me in taking an existing assets and turning it into something completely new. I hope to continue and expand on this practice in the future to make new unique Javelins, and other projects I have in mind for other mods (along with making things from scratch too, hopefully!)

  • A Note on mod compatibility:

In order to give the water impact particle effects when striking with Riptide, I had to edit a vanilla weapon data table (of sorts, it's called an Enum). The mod should still make it compatible with most other mods out there though that also add unique weapon styles. That is all thanks to a community effort on the Mod Discord to gather and continue the Enum list. I will need to update this everytime a new modder adds their own weapons to the list, but it's not a huge endeavor.

For now, you may want to load Javelin Improved further down your loader order then normal until other modders have had time to update their lists.

  • A known minor visual bug

When you first load in and immediately equip Riptide, the water particle effect will sometimes come in as low resolution. This will correct itself once your computer has time to fully load all the assets in. This is most commonly seen in Single Player

Update: Apr 4, 2019 @ 12:26am

  • Fixed recipes for Basic Iron Javelins. I had an ID typo.....ooops.

  • Balanced heavy attacks on both Shield and Throwing Axe.

First, I hate balancing. I really, really do. This is never going to be perfect. Something I'm trying very hard to do is not to nerf or buff the actual base damage of Javelin's. I want the Javelin to be as vanilla as possible. Unless Funcom themselves super nerfs them, or super buffs them, I'm trying to work around whatever they are set to.

Now then, I've adjusted the combo damages for both Shield and Throwing Axe, as well as their stamina costs. This should bring the Javelin heavy combos more in line with other weapons. Probably won't be the final adjustment, but we'll see how things go.

Update: Apr 2, 2019 @ 4:09pm

  • A fix for Attack 4 on Javelin Light Attack when using Throwing Axes in the Off-Hand

(I forgot to add bleed to it, like Javelin Light Attack 4 when just using just the Javelin, or when using a Shield).

Update: Apr 1, 2019 @ 10:43pm

  • Removed Throwing Axe as a chance to spawn on the newly created Enemy Blacksmith Thralls as it made them less of a threat and boring.

Update: Apr 1, 2019 @ 10:34pm

  • Typo fix.
